There has been talk of retiring this forum, and merging all existing topics into other forums - such as Box Office, General Discussion and Gaming. We already have a 'Star Wars' topic tag, so the decision comes down to whether or not you think the community needs a forum dedicated to the discussion of Star Wars.
Place ya votes... now!

It doesn't get much traffic, but since we're a star wars forum, I figure it's nice to have a repository for news that may not easily fit into one of the other places

No, leave it alone.

We are getting a live action TV show in the next few years. Liver alone!
Though people should remember to talk about things like the current Clone Wars cartoon in there, and not in the BO forum.
heheh the B.O. forum :lol

I'm all for leaving it as is. :) Kinda nice to be able to toss all the random SW silliness into one forum by itself.

It's not doing anything that other forums can't do. Let's face it, when the new live action TV show comes out, it will be discussed in the BO forum just like every other TV show. There's no discussion that can take place there that cannot happen elsewhere. Bin it!

I'm 'Undecided'.
On the one hand, as a SW board it doesn't seem right to not have an area to discuss the movies/books/TV series as that is what forms the backbone to why this community exists in the first place.
On the other, traffic has been fairly slow for a couple of years now and already people post their SW-related topics in other forums. There is the live TV series coming in the next couple of years but would it be enough to populate an entire forum by itself? - I don't know; certainly the Clone Wars movie and series didn't get much attention from us here beyond a thread or 2.
So ... yeah. :lol If it remains - fine. If not - also fine.
(I do agree with Miss De'Ville that if it remains we should probably be a bit more disciplined and actually post our SW-related topics there rather than spread them all out over the board)

(Isn't that what we pay our mods to do? Find threads out of place and put them back? [no one say anything about how I moved all the threads out of place and some of them still aren't where they belong please])

^^agrees with Lil: It is all Dasq's fault... obviously!

So for the votes are evenly tied.
Right now, it's looking as if the forum will stay.

I do confess that in the event of a tie, I'd lean more to Yes ^_^;. I'm surprised how evenly divided everyone is on this (so far).

I've decided to switch my vote from Undecided to Yes (|I :twak :o ^_^;), and voted with this account. Please ignore the Undecided vote by Atreyu (my other account for those who don't know)

Only by 2 votes (8 in favor; 6 against) - pretty close. Question is whether that result is satisfactory to remove the forum. :uhoh

Well, there are a great deal of people who come here who didn't vote at all, so...?

As with all democratic processes, if you don't vote and then don't like the consequences of the vote... you have no right to complain :P
That being said, I am leaning more towards leaving the forum as it is unless we see a substantial number of votes to retire it.

Realistically though, it was unlikely there was ever going to be a substantial number of votes either in favour or against - typically we always seem to run polls pretty close. The poll on the fate of the Collecting forum surprised me by the overwhelming agreement to close it down (it ended up 23-0 with only 1 undecided/no opinion).
That said, this poll has had a pretty low turnout (only 15 votes total) - that's 9 votes less than the aforementioned Collecting poll. I guess either a lot of people are absent ... or people honestly don't really care about the forum either way.
In the end the 'Ayes' have 3 votes majority over the 'Nays' (9 vs 6 atm), so I guess its up to the admin team to decide whether a simple majority is enough, or if it needs to be a big enough majority to act upon.
(though the latter then begs the question of how much 'majority' is enough - 5 votes? 10 votes?)
I would be inclined to advise that based on the vote, the forum should close, but maybe allow for any of the Nay voters a last minute appeal (if they really want to) to try and argue to keep it which might rustle up another couple of votes to tie it. So far the only real argument that's been made in favour of keeping the forum (IMHO) was Miss De'Ville's suggestion that it would be useful for when/if the new SW TV series is released (though Droo has counter-argued this to a degree).

9 vs 7 right now. That isn't enough for me to believe that it should be deleted, so the Star Wars forum lives to fight another day ;)

Seems there's been a sudden last minute rush of voting. :lol
Dasq announced the final verdict a week ago however (ie. forum will remain) - maybe time to just lock the topic? Can probably also remove my thread at the top of General Discussion (linking to the original suggestions thread) as I think we're done there too. :)
