Rename this forum!

We are now taking suggestions on what awesome name to give the General Discussion forum. Some ideas so far, thanks to Atreyu:

Tosche Station

I'd rather keep it SW related personally in keeping with the proposed rename for all the other 'general' forums (link to discussion (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20485)).

I'm happy with either Anchorhead or Tosche Station.

(I'd rather not the Cantina, only because every other SW site has used this name - I want to be a bit different :))

I don't like the idea of calling it cantina since the discussion forum I know called this place cantina...
Tosche Station sounds fine but a little low tech. I always considered the Tosche Station as the SW equivalent to a gas station in a small town where all the young people gather late night for hanging around

Why not call it Jabba's Palace? That's the place where all the cool people party!

Maybe I'm just in a dull mood but do we have to rename it? I know this is Star Wars fans and we all love Star Wars but can't we just have a nice, straight forward General Discussion forum without spewing our greasy geek juices all over it? Same with the other general forums. Aren't we Star Warsy enough here? There's only so much geekiness I can handle in my life and that's saying something. Maybe I'm just getting too cool for this place...

I'm with Droo on not really seeing why it needs to be named... GD is fine with me.

But if it's gonna be changed I toss in another vote for this:

It doesn't necessarily need to be renamed - this was just an idea that came up in Atreyu's forum suggestions thread. Keeping the current name is as much of a voting option as any of the others :)

Aren't we Star Warsy enough here? The reason I proposed a SW-rename is because, with the other proposed changes (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20485) factored in, the only actual SW-related forums we'll have left is SW Roleplaying and the group forums. That's it. Everything else is just a 'general' forum.

Personally, far from being 'Star Warsy' enough, we would be barely keeping the place within the SW theme as it is.

Of course, YMMV. :)

Since we seem to be listing names for other forums as well, here's some quick ones from me (keeping to the SW theme):

- Galaxies Opera House (Boxoffice & Other Media) - the location in Ep. 3 where Palaptine and Anakin watch the opera
- Coruscant Sports Bar (Sports)
- The Trench Run (General Gaming) - from the iPhone SW game + the Rebel Assault level

The question is do you have to read the Umlauts ü,ä,ö as normal vowels?
Because if I read the Umlauts as Umlauts your name sounds ...how do I say this without insulting you...different.

I say the Umlauts the way they're supposed to be said. If my race had wanted normal vowels, they'd have restricted themselves to those and not bothered with the more sonorous Umlauts.

Ah but it's music in my ear. So much easier, too. For me, your names all sound awfully complicated, and none of it what it looks like, not even the consonants. Why bother writing it differently than saying it? Totally beyond me.

If you have such trouble pronouncing my name properly, just use Dunknee. It's my race's gift to the alien outsiders that everyone's names have at least one part that's pronouncable to you.

If it's not broken don't fix it. That's not to say that things can't be improved but changing for the sake of changing? I'll pass if there's not a good reason behind it.

The reason at this point in time was that it was also suggested we remove 'Star Wars' from the Box Office forums name, and get rid of the Amalgam forum. Atreyu's suggestion came out of the fact that he worried we would be losing our ties to what this board was originally created for: to discuss Star Wars, and to have Star Wars based names for the existing discussion forums was just a small, fun way of remembering that.

As I previously said, it looks like most people are in favour of keeping the same names regardless, and there's no problem with that :)
