View Full Version : Burning Nerds - UK/Euro

This is mostly for people who are planning to fly out to Nevada in November from either the UK or Europe.
I am looking at getting my flights at the beginning of March, and was wondering if anyone would like to co-ordinate flights?
One of the decently priced flights I saw went something like this: Newcastle -> London Heathrow -> LAX -> Reno.
I thought it might be cool if we could co-ordinate so that we all end up on the same London -> LAX -> Reno leg (or something equivalent, sometimes LAX is subbed for Chicago, depending on who you fly with), if only so that the changeover times between flights is a little more entertaining.
If you're in, let me know ASAP and we will try to work out something.

Since I won't be able to decide whether I can go or not (due to finances) until the end of August.... I'll keep it in mind but I've no idea if it'll still work out then. I'll most likely fly via NC, tho, to drop off Nya at her dad's...
And now I thought you were going to suggest we have our very own Euro Burning Nerd get together....

Yeah and we invite all the Americans and Australiens to the old world.

Come to think of it, we really should do a Euro meet-up.

Every time I bring this up, they piss and moan that it's too expensive for them to come to Europe.

I'd enjoy that idea, but not this year. I'm low on time off and money.
At any rate, I am not a Euro so I will sneak out of this thread now.

I'm open to this notion for 2011

I also kind of meant a mini get-together of us Europeans.... :p with Steve having moved to the Netherlands and Dee possibly coming over here, too, and all you UKers, we might have quite a group. Then there's Yog up in Norway, Peter and I in Germany, and some others that I'm probably forgetting to mention here....

Jace and I are having a get together in March, which I invited Peter and Droo too. I know it's kind of short notice for the rest of you Euros, but it's pretty criminal (really) that the Brits haven't gotten together yet.

I'd planned to come over to the UK during Easter, but my friends there have no room anymore since their son moved back in after a bad break-up. I'd have tried to organise some kind of meet-up but since that's not happening - and I'm also lacking the finances to pay for going anywhere further than 50 miles beyond home - it's all moot now anyways.
Having said that, maybe we can organise some sort of meet-up this summer?

Exactly why we should do it together ;)

Possibly. I'm not sure I'll be able to afford getting out of Newcastle between May and November though, since I have Ibiza and Nevada book-ending those months, taking up all my funds.

Haha! I read that last bit as "taking up all my fluids."
And yes, it's bad that the UK crowd still haven't met up yet. I will be up for a summer congregation, anywhere really, but I don't think March is doable for me, sadly. Tickets take priority!

Do you think you will be ready to buy in March?

Technically, I can't afford to buy tickets just yet.
Technically.
What I might be able to do is talk to my big sis and get a loan for the ticket money, now that work is considering actually paying me enough to survive on more than £10 a week in London. <_<
Any word on how much that'll all cost?

The best price I have seen was about £550 (return) though they can reach around £750 depending who you are flying with, when, and via which airports.
I can't exactly afford to buy them just yet, but I am conscious of wanting to get organised ASAP and avoiding flight prices getting higher.

I've already put in for and had my vacation time approved, so now I'm looking at tickets and stashing money away like a squirrel (in a tree with nuts on one side and make-up on the other).

You have to stash away make-up?
Is that so Charley won't steal it? :mischief

IF I will join the fun this winter is still a big IF for me. So if I manage to get a job after finishing my diploma paper and find a job that allows me to take a two weeks of in october/november, I would love to make a classic westcoast roadtrip. I want to visit some friends in LA, San Francisco and Davis CA and a trip to vegas might be mandatory as well :)
But like I said this is a BIG IF but if I manage to pull that off we will see each other in Reno and IF I manage to get the money for the raodtrip together as well maybe one or two of you people might could join me on my trip.
But like I said that is a BIG IF
