Dear Mr Atkins,
The reason that your debit card has been declined is because we're a bunch of feckless morons. We were so busy making retarded television adverts that we completely forgot to mention 'Oh, by the way; we're replacing all our Maestro cards with Visa cards, so keep an eye out for your new one'.
We realise that having put out some sort of information regarding this change would probably have alerted you to the fact that you didn't recieve said replacement card THREE MONTHS AGO; unfortunately, I refer you to our first sentence.
Because three months has now ellapsed, your existing card has automatically been cancelled. You should recieve a replacement within seven working days: unfortunately, the system that normally allows us to authorise a cash withdrawl from an ATM in an emergency is broken this weekend, and whoops, because we've already cancelled your card, we won't be able to do anything about that even once it is fixed.
Have a good time hiking out to the nearest bank and back again just so that you can make it to work and earn money that we won't let you have.
