Pick your favorite! Thanks again to Yog for compiling the lists. :)
This is a hard year to pick... lots of good 'nerd' movies, lol.

Another year where my favorite movie isn't on the list. Great movie year tho - gonna go with the Oscar winner I guess.

I love Minority Report. It doesn't get anywhere near enough praise in my opinion.

Agreed. (Neither does RTP)
I did love Chicago tho, so I have absolutely no problem in voting for it here.

What is Attack of the Clones doing on this list. :|
Sorry, just remembered box office goes into selecting some of the marginal ones. Beyond that, yeah... I hate that movie like most people hate Phantom Menace.
And I'm wondering if it's bad form if I end up voting for each of the LotR movies...

Guess it's a good thing I didn't vote for it(I almost did). :lol I'll make no apologizes for enjoying the film. It was among my top 3-5 favorites of 2002

Well, as great as the trilogy is, I only voted for Fellowship since its my favourite. No doubt about it that The Two Towers was my favourite film of that year but I just find it a bit dull voting for all three. Plus, City of God is an incredible film in its own right and deserves more votes!

I almost ended up voting Spiderman, simply because I had such low expectations, and was completely wrong about it. Spiderman was a damn good movie.

...I have no idea out of that list which one I'd pick, honestly. If Minority Report or Road to Perdition were up there I'd tag either one too. Hmm, I think I'll need to actually think about this one.

I loved Lilo and Stitch. :D AND Minority Report. I think I'd still pick The Two Towers though... Helms Deep is just amazing.

What is Spiderman doing on that list?
Spiderman translates VERY badly outside of the USA. What you might see as good, you can get blank looks and WTF? That was crap! elsewhere and frankly I found it terrible. The success of the movies have a lot to do with how Spiderman is ingrained into US culture and without it it makes not a lot of sense nor does Peter Parker relate to say someone in the Southern Hemisphere. It had an unusual losided B.O. return - almost equal Intl and US, which is unusual. You usually would more expect 35/65, which basically says it opened big but dropped off pretty quick in most OS markets.
Unfortunantly, Minority Report - a genuinely good movie - suffered from Tom Cruise is a nutcase and there's a lot of people who just wont see a movie if it has Cruise in it and hate it on principle. I personally think Cruise is a fucked up person at the lead of a cult that was delibertly set up as a money making scam by a pedophile but he is a very good actor and Minority Report is excellent. Pity he's a despicable POS for his involvement in that Xenu cult.

I picked Spiderman since I won't vote for the LOTR or SW in these polls because I really don't care in which year these movies came out because in the end it is SW...and the LOTR

Which is a shame, because to be honest is acting isn't really that bad. There are a few of movies that he's in which aren't worth the cheap, laminated card that the ticket is printed on... but quite a lot of his movies are enjoyable, if you can overcome the psychological Tom Cruise gag reflex.

I'm not going to vote LOTR this year, because TTT was more of a middle act in a trilogy, and both FOTR and ROTK are significantly better, IMO.
As for Minority Report, it was definitely one of the top 10 movies that year, but it had a somewhat lukewarm reception by the public with $132M gross / 102M budget, making it #17 that year in box office. Furthermore, it 'only' has a 7.7 score at IMDB, and was not nominated for any heavy weight awards. While I and others love that movie to death, there are plenty of those who simply did not care, for some reason. Maybe because of the 'Tom Cruise gag reflex' mentioned above, and because of the nutcase factor I guess.

To be honest, I didn't think the Tom Cruise backlash had started when Minority Report came out. In fact, I think there was quite a bit of buzz about it because it was the first pairing of Hollywood heavy-hitters Cruise and Spielberg. Also, MI3 did well, didn't it? And that was when we were into deep anti-Cruise territory.
On the subject of Tom Cruise, I am one of those people that actually still likes him. He is a very likable person in interviews and with crowds. Yes, he is a Scientologist and the implications therein are grave since I cannot abide Scientology and think its very existance throws into sharp relief the terrifying idiocy of the modern age AS WE KNOW IT but... I don't want to judge a person based on their religious views alone. So yeah, Tom Cruise, odd but I like him. Plus, for the record, he really is a good actor and don't let media scandals make you forget that!

Yeah. He really does come off well in interviews still. Saw him on Jonathan Ross, promoting Valkyrie I think. He just seems like a genuinely nice and - for the most part - misunderstood guy.
The only thing I'd say re: MI3 is that it was already an established franchise, with JJ Abrams attatched, and thus had cinema pulling power on that basis: potentially in spite of Tom Cruise's involvement, rather than because of. Without some sort of Back To The Future 2 style temporal paradox, there's no real way of knowing how the ratings might have panned out under different circumstances.

I have no problem picking Attack of the Clones. It's not critically acclaimed but as far as movies that year went, it's my favorite because it's a huge event.

Just to be clear, my issue isn't with the lack of critical acclaim, it's that I thought it was terrible. But I can appreciate that some people have degenerate I mean different opinions on the matter. :)
I picked Two Towers, and I'm sure I'll pick Return of the King for 2003, because I genuinely enjoyed them the most, but I honestly don't see that many movies in a year, so I'm definitely skewing the sample. Of the LotR movies, Fellowship is certainly my favorite. As thrilled as I am that RotK won Best Picture, I think it was a unique situation where it was celebrating the accomplishment of the whole trilogy.

Can my vote be changed at all? Should have checked the 2003 thread before voting really! I voted for City of God but I'd like to vote for The Two Towers instead. Otherwise I'd be compelled to vote for Return of the King in the 2003 thread and there's no way I could not vote for Lost in Translation.

Harry Potter. Easily. I found it more enjoyable as an occasional movie goer than the others on the list.
