View Full Version : Shadows of the Republic

Just thought I'd write a little reminder that the first Shadows thread hasn't been finished yet.
Apart from which - did you know, or realise, that there are TEN separate Shadows threads by now? 8 of these are closed to a specific set of people, but there is the first - the Beginning of the End (http://sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18406) - and another named The Younglings (http://sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19363) which is open to all. Sadly, the second one never really got off past the second post, inspite of there having been quite a few who seemed to want to get involved with their various padawans and young kids.
Maybe we could breathe some new life into those two again? Now that we've got the "1-post-a-day"- thing going on, I'm sure there is one or the other person here who is looking for something to do once everything else has been replied to...
Anyway, just to give you all an overview of the various Shadows threads:
They have a wiki page (http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php?title=Shadows_of_the_Republic) - and those responsible for starting the other threads should feel free to add blurbs to the ones that don't have one yet.

I gave both threads a bump :D

I can almost remember what we were going to do in The Younglings thread. Must re-read!

Oh yeah! I remember!
...what's a toun-a-ment again? :angel
edit: the Younglings have a wiki too, so feel free to add in information about your youngling padawan's clan, teachers, etc. http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php?title=Younglings

It's where we beat you up, and the rest of the Jedi applaud us for doing so.

You can't beat me up!
I'm too.... too... fast! *runs around in circles*

So where the heck are all the younglings now?
Hey, Barton, how old are you at this point?

What I would find amazingly useful is a one-page summary or index of sorts. I've tried to ask for this in the past, but I don't blame anyone for not being up to it. I'd love to see a list of the cast of Shadows of the Republic including a blurb on your role (and rank if any), how old were you then, and if you are still alive and active in 2 ABE threads.
I'm finally starting to piece most of it together, I think. Tionne was a Knight and Tell Cho was a padawan. From what I can tell they are the only ones who survived that were old enough for me to have spent enough time around to clearly remember them. Maybe Barton, too? Everyone else was either a very young Padawn still in training, a youngling, or was only around for the SOTR era from what I gather.
If I am wrong, PLEASE let me know. I wouldn't mind getting involved in one of those SOTR threads, but I'd rather not rip a hole in reality with a time paradox to avoid a retcon. :)

Barton is 14 or so at this time, and very much still a Padawan. You can see him in the Younglings thread with Taman Danar.

Serena was... I can't remember. She is 49 currently, two years after Endor. I'll have to do the math but she's in her early 20s, about to be knighted.
A'na Eldhil is the same, about to get Lilaena, who is about 5 or 6, as her padawan. Again, I'll have to do the math better and update it in the wiki. :)

Oh, and Salemescro is like mid-teens also.

The more important question is your character running around in the "current day" threads... and are you on the Wheel? That way I know if my first reaction would be to introduce myself or share stories on how we survived.
Maybe we should make up "I Survived Order 66" t-shirts. :D

Are you advocating thread necromancy, Serena?

Well, its a good thread! :p But no. Its a good read, however.

Thank you for that link. I'll have to check it out.
And no worries on me rez'ing it. The main part of Drin's survival story is actually in the pre-reboot archives (search keyword: Darth Vader). The rest has only been alluded to in my current threads and will most likely remain cloudy.

Barton - yes, he is on the Wheel
Salem - no, very much not on the Wheel.

Hmmm... I think I'll make a wiki page with this info...

I see that the "Survivors" thread sort of non-ended like so many other great threads in SW-Fans history. LOL. Glad I'm not the only one guilty of that.

There you go. It's incomplete with personal data and I'm probably missing a few, but it's a start.

This inspired me to start my own wiki finally. I made a little tweak to the template. Since it's so long after the Reset, I replaced that with the header "Shadows of the Republic" so I can keep parallel timelines.

Just an update - we now have thread tags for the Shadows of the Republic threads. So, update your thread tags for easy finding!

I like the new thread tags, btw.
I was just reading through the revived "Beginning of the End" thread that you guys started in 2008. While I liked the idea behind it, at the point where it was announced how many Jedi were killed (one of Lilaena's posts on page 1) I almost did a spit-take.
According to that thread, over 80% of the Jedi who went to Geonosis were killed. I sincerely think we need to reexamine that number.
I realize that the SW Wiki claims that 179 Jedi were killed... but note the lack of a source for that number. More importantly, note that one of the subsequent wiki editors was apparently as skeptical as I was and pointed out that there is no source for it either.
Seeing that alarming number stated as "canon" prompted me to do some research. There is no "official" record of the death toll for that battle, but thank God for uber-anal fanboys (which ironically I now qualify given the amount of analysis I'm putting into this, I know) to do that kind of work for us.
http://boards.theforce.net/literature/b10003/6940155
The short version: 212 Jedi were sent. Of those, 127 were accounted for between EU references and on-screen (yes this guy actually combed through footage apparently frame by frame ... scary). 93 were seen in the arena, where the vast majority of them died.
In the breakdown, he counted somewhere around 80-90 apparent or confirmed deaths between the battle scene and EU canon.
After the battle, there were 30 CONFIRMED alive. Translation: 30 characters that were mentioned between the movies and EU were known to have been in the arena and survived.
Everyone else is a big fat question mark. Open material for games, novels, comics, and fanfiction.
90 Jedi dead out of 212 is still a scary high number. I know not everyone can be as badass as Obi-Wan or Mace Windu, but we're talking about an order of warriors who are so powerful that 1 or 2 can take on a whole squadron alone. That opening battle definitely went very very badly for damn near HALF of that powerful of a fighting force to have been killed. But it's a lot more believable than 80%.
So why did I do all this, besides to feed my OCD? ... I want to set the record straight IC in that thread. No need for a retcon. It can be blamed on sloppy intel sent to the temple, like the inflated casualty reports that flooded out of Vietnam. Chalk it up to part of Palpatine's plot.
I just ran it by a mod first and figured I should clear it first before just coming out and doing it in the RP thread.
I'm gonna go shop for vests and a van with lights rigged to look like the cockpit of the Falcon now.

I'm fine with whatev. :) We can retcon it through an edit or ignore it and move on or you can post. :)

Drin will be on that Star Destroyer that's on its way back. Looks like Sal, Ilias, and Ana revived the thread and had a little exchange going on. Easy enough to do a time lapse after them.

Yep.... time lapse is good. Then I won't have to write the scene between the council and Fionn :p
