... I think I already did this last year, but it's a tradition to watch this on New Year's Eve over here, so I thought I'd share again.

Wait, what? Does not British broadcasting show this thing on TV every Christmas / New Year like all the other civilized nations in Europe? :)

Edit: apparently it is more popular in non english speaking countries. How curious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner_for_One

Never ever ever have I seen it. I Wikied this earlier actually and it seems that the UK is one of the few European countries that isn't acquainted with it. The actual production is German, it's a German thing, and they simply wrote it in english with actors from Blighty.

In Norway, it is not even Christmas before you watched the show. It is as firm of a tradition as the Christmas tree. And they show it every single year, some times more than once, and on more than one channel.

E: Holy cow! All these years, I did not realize there existed an extended version, and in color!

"Dinner for One" is pretty much shown on various stations, in various versions, all through the evening leading up to midnight. I don't quite like the extended, colour version.

It's always amusing to show this to English friends who have neither heard of nor seen it before.

The first time I saw this was when you posted it last year. Obviously not something that has come across to us from the continent!

I dunno what it is, but it's got a certain charm.... and no matter how many times I've seen it, it still gets a giggle from me every time.... especially during the last round

"Kill that cat!"

Hehehehehe....

This was mentioned on the latest episode of QI (with Stephen Fry) - apparently it's the most frequently repeated television programme ever. When they asked the question, bearing in mind the entire episode has been about Germany, I knew the answer before Stephen said it - thanks Mara ;)
