Forgive me if this was done, I didn't see a thread. Now that the first decade of the new century is about to come to a close, the web is awash in top ten lists. What were your favorite movies of the 2000's?
Mine (sort of but not really in order)...
Memento
Star Trek
Spider-Man (forcing myself to name only 1 superhero movie)
Shaun of the Dead
Snatch
The Wrestler
Juno
Underworld (only the first one)
District 9
Lord of the Rings (collectively, but Two Towers especially)

We're counting 00-09 apparently with things like Gladiator on the list.
I'll probably throw something together after I get a preliminary best of '09 list and take a look at the entire decade.

I can't even begin to think what my list would be. There are just too many to choose from.

That's generally how decades are counted, y'know - it'd be a bit weird if "the seventies" included 1980, but didn't include 1970. ;)

On the other hand if you figure the original decade of the Common Era didn't start at 0, but 1 - all the decades would run from 1-10, or 10-20 and so on till now. I believe that is what our Australian friend was getting at.

That makes the assumption that decades have to align to a rigidly defined structure that starts at 0, 1, or whenever. If you were talking millennia then fair enough... but when most people talk about "a decade", it is widely accepted that they refer to a 0-9 span. Arguing otherwise just seems needlessly anal to me - sometimes convenience and convention needs to be allowed to trump cold hard logic. ;)

I'm still not convinced by my list. I was going to pick the movies I rewatched the most, but I felt that District 9 at the very least deserved a mention. In terms of which ones resonated with me the most when I saw them, there are some really good movies that I didn't see on the big screen, or was only half-paying attention when I first saw them... so it's something of a scatterbrain list, I'm afraid; a mix of movies I enjoyed, watched dozens of times, or was wowed by, etc.
A Knight's Tale
Avatar
District 9
Gladiator
Hero
Iron Man
Lord of the Rings (trilogy)
Monsters, Inc
Star Trek
The Dark Knight
The Incredibles
I was tempted to include The Last King of Scotland, 300, Serenity, Men in Black II, and a bunch of others; I only wanted to include on Pixar movie as well, but I'm not sure there's a Pixar movie I don't enjoy, so I had to lump for two in the end. :\

In pondering this while at work today, I've scrawled a list of the ten movies that have stuck with me the most from the past decade, that I can truly say I absolutely loved:
300
The Bourne Identity (adore all three, but the first is still my favorite to rewatch)
The Departed
District 9
Gladiator
The Perfect Storm
Hotel Rwanda
Return of the King (easily my favorite of the trilogy)
Troy
V for Vendetta
Also deserving of mention because I enjoyed them:
21 Grams
A Beautiful Mind
Harry Potter (the series)
The Manchurian Candidate
Memento
Munich
The Patriot
Pirates of the Carribean (the series)
Serenity
Star Trek
Training Day
Underworld (the series)
Captain Untouchable
