:lol That was bizarre and hilarious. Like Kill Bill with a 12 yr old as Beatrice.

Just now caught on to this! I don't know if this was available when the trailer-spree went, but here's the Hit-Girl trailer. Also NSFW.

I have NO idea what the hell I just saw, apart from it was the best "up yours" to comic books and super heros ever.
Violent, crass, just plain wrong, but awesome
I have to go see this again.

I was expecting Kick-Ass to be a fun and humorous film but tonight that's not what I got, instead I got sooo much more. Yes, it's hilarious and I was entertained from start to finish but this film goes places you don't really expect it to go and takes you on a thrilling, engaging, and even emotional ride, with a well-crafted story of family, friendship, and revenge. Yes, the violence is animated and extreme to the point of a Tom & Jerry cartoon(minus the blood!) but it doesn't wade, stumble, or fall into those waters, it dives right in!
And the action is first class and thoroughly exhilerating - as good as any other superhero movie out there. And make no mistake, this is a comic book/superhero movie, it's just able to dissect the genre and poke fun at its geeky innards, and naturally it's jam-packed with nods to other films of its ilk and other familiar genre trappings. All of which is done out of love, too. Nevertheless, the narrative does make some sharp stabs at the nature of internet-fed celebrity and society's general apathy in the face of suffering and injustice. Such observations are poignant without drawing any attention from the story.
You can relate to the characters and can even empathise with their drives and needs up to a point, that point being we wouldn't don spandex costumes and go out fighting crime in the night, these folks do and there's definately a not-too-subtle undertone of lunacy in their actions. You support Kick-Ass and his noble, but flawed quest, to be the first real superhero. You can relate to Red Mist's desire to make his father proud, even when it takes him down a dark path, and his conflicting wish to do the right thing and protect Kick-Ass. You can understand Big Daddy's hunger for revenge, and despite being both appalled and awed by the way he has trained his eleven year old daughter into a super assassin, you can see their love for each other and it is endearing. I found the moment Hit Girl discovered the mugs of hot chocolate now gone cold truly moving.
I'm still not sure how long the film was but it flew by, not a moment felt baggy or slow. Matthew Vaughn has hit this one out of the ball park, and I echo the sentiments of many who've seen it: Where the hell did this come from and when can we get more!? Seriously, this film is the real deal and personally, I found it a more entertaining experience than Avatar. Such an excellent film! Do yourself a favour and check it out!
PS. Hit-Girl is an instant pop-culture icon! I want a t-shirt or a mug or something with that little girl's blood spattered face all over it!

I agree with everything Droo said. There's also a nice amount of genuinely good-quality cinematography as well. This is by no means a throwaway big weekender. The comedy is black, the violence is excessive, the story is engaging and the characters are a real joy to watch. Even the supporting characters and moments surrounding the central plot are a lot of fun.
And it has one of the best last lines ever!

I just got lucky at the "sneak preview" at my local movie theater...We got KICK ASS tonight and it was awesome.
Maybe not the best movie of 2010 but certainly the most enjoyable so far.

It was entertaining. I'd give it an 80 out of 100. Not sure I'd own it though...
Hit Girl is awesome though.

Entertaining movie, but unfortunately nowhere near as funny or unconventional as one might hope. Basically, the best bits are the ones already shown in the trailers. It's no new Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill. Predictable script and surprisingly, the characters become flat stereotypes almost to the point of being dull (yes, I know the movie makes fun of stereotypes). I give it some credit for not taking itself serious, but when you boil it down, it's basically the same formulaic super hero story with gore and younger actors. And it is only ok / decent at that. Chloe Moretz is very talented as Hit Girl, so I see great things in the future for her. I generously give the film 4/5 stars, mostly because it tries something new. It's the type of movie you should watch as a DVD rental with some friends while you're drunk to have a great time.
