I was just thinking (I know, a dangerous thing for me) that one thing I don't think I asked anyone at Con was if we had any musicians around these parts.
If I did ask, please tell me...because I seriously don't remember, and there very well could have been too much Sam & Sailor Jerry in my veins.
So! I consider myself a musician :) mostly a vocalist (opera, classical, some acappella), but I also play a little piano, a very little bit of violin and bassoon, and I've got several years of trombone to my credit (some lessons, and a few years of band in both high school and college).
Anyone else? :)

Piano. And voice. :) Both a little out of practice.

I am so out of practice with my guitar and uke, it's not funny.
Used to play violin too, back in the day. Wish I'd never given that up. Not many instruments quite so sexy as the violin family. :love

I've played the flute since I was about nine or ten, passed my exams up to Grade Eight, and played in our school concert band and orchestra, sometimes contributing to percussion elements in the band, on top of that I played in a local Liverpool orchestra for a few years and sang in the school's chamber choir. Also, I am a fledgling pianist and have some limited experience with the glockenspiel. Nothing more thrilling than playing in a large concert hall with great acoustics! :D

Yay! This is great! Even more kindred-ness...that's not even a word, is it? :p
Lil, wish I'd mentioned it at Con! Would have been entertaining to break into song at some random moment. :)
*noms Das* I could play a delightfully terrible rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle for you...;)
Droo - that is SO true! God am I glad someone else understands :D I had the privelege of auditiong at Symphony Hall here in Boston a few years back for the Tanglewood Festival Choir...while I didn't get chosen (worst audition of my life -__-), I did get to sing in Symphony Hall.
Technically.
Minor detail that it was in a tiny rehearsal room in the basement ;)

My family is a musical family and our idea of a good time growing up was to all sit down with our various instruments (mostly guitars, haha) and play sixties tunes and folksongs. Sadly, with all of us spread out and busy with our own families now (holy cow that's such a weird thought) we don't get to do a lot of sing-songs anymore. :(
For a brief time my brother and I had a band with some schoolmates called 84 Hours that splintered because we were more indie, our drummer was a rocker, and our bassist was into screamo and we just couldn't decide on a sound that we all enjoyed. I still play guitar and sing a bit, fiddle around on the piano and just aquired a cello (:love). My brother (the same one from the failed band) and I have performed at a couple of open mic nights here as The Darcy Experiment (ahahaha>_<) but that's just for kicks and giggles, we're not very good. :)

Used to play the trumpet *sighs* it's sitting neglected in a corner of my room gathering dust :(
Played a little guitar and bass a few years ago but I think I can still tune them right, :|
Other than that it's random 40's era whistling and the rare moment when spasmodic fits of percussion hit me and a few friends at the bar.
More like a connoisseur of sound than actually playing anything, though I still dream about picking up the blues harp when I get old and bored :lol

Liz, Guinea Singing dogs own.
Your voice is lovely so :p
As for me, in high school I was a TRIPLE THREAT - majoring in Visual Art, Music and Drama. XD I took vocal music and classical guitar, only to find out that my stubby fingers don't work well for playing any instrument. :(
I still enjoy singing though, even if I'm not super good at it.

I sing bass. I was in concert chorale four years at college, and I was also in an eight-voice chamber ensemble. That was some of the most fun I've ever had singing.
I also write music:

And Droo - you never mentioned that you'd played at Sydney Opera House, foo'!

That's awesome, guys!
*bounces around, all excited*
I have to confess to singing along to the radio in full opera voice...I tell you, you haven't lived until you've heard someone who should be Brunnhilde singing Beyoncé!
*pounces on Dragon* Your music is fantastic - and all hail chorale singers! I sang in my college group as well - usually alto, sometimes tenor if they needed help (before I discovered my real range).
Reshmar - do you play for a living or just casually?

Um... played violin for about ten years, then stopped. I tuned my violin the other week, because I could. I've got a familiar basics book to help me, um, relearn, I suppose. As well as some sheet music of things I would like to play, scale books, etc, etc...
Did snare drum in three different marching bands over the years. Did a small stint in the high school choir. Presently, I tend to hop-to when my church's adult choir does their thing at Christmas and Easter. I'm a soprano, not as high as I used to, though I could pull off alto quite easily as well.
Secretly, I like to sing along to male singers on the radio. See how low I can go. -laugh-

Hmm...not sure why I didn't see this one earlier.
I play a little guitar and bass guitar. Emphasis on little.
I can sing... badly :p
And I do occasionally bust out an ocarina when bored out of my mind and in the mood to play something silly. Yellow Submarine happens often... lol

Well I suppose I should give my credentials like everyone else... ;) I was a music major in college with a piano emphasis. I play well, but have a horrid time memorizing piano music which ultimately doomed me. I studied voice as well and was in my uni's chorale the whole time I was there. SO much fun. We took a trip to France my sophomore year to help drum up interest/attention for some missionaries who were trying to start a church - in France they love the Gospel music! We ALMOST sang in Notre Dame Cathedral but a scheduling mistake bumped us. However we did get to hold an impromptu concert inside a really old chapel that was built into a cliff. I can't remember the name of the place off the top of my head, but there were a ton of steps and a little village at the bottom (tourist trap now of course).
Anyway. Hafta get the baby up, no more time to google search to try to find it. Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho sounded awesome there though. ;)

Took piano lessons for 12 years but I'm no good at it at all. And I really mean that. I can play just enough to be able to figure out the tunes of songs nowadays, but I can do that just as well with singing, so... mneh...
SO I sing. Was in school choir. Sang at music sessions at the local pubs. Sang at a few small-ish folk concerts. Then for years did no singing other than inside my car on the way to work, or trying to confuse the local church choir at their Christmas mass by singing in harmonies they never expected...
Now I play the flute a little bit, I took proper singing lessons during teacher's seminar and I sing at school in our teacher's choir. We sing pretty much every day, every lesson, at least once. Might be joining an a capella band soonish (if I can find the time), since they asked....
And I'm starting to learn how to play the lyre (would love to learn how to play the concert harp but damn things are too expensive).

Play a bit of:
Piano
Violin
Drums
I sing, a mid-high tenor, I think. Mostly for folk rock sort of stuff, and chanting choir in church. The Slavs really have an ear for the grand sound.
My main instrument is the guitar. Been playing for near on nine years now, I suppose.
I want to compose music, but sadly, I can't read music notation all that well (read at all, beyond simple notation for singing). And there's the fact my computer's pretty much like Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope, nobody knows how this old thing keeps going. I really need to get a new computer. One that can run Sibelius on full bore and not feel it.
Following Dragon's example, here's one song I recently remastered:
It's Snowing... (Remastered) .mp3 (http://www.4shared.com/file/170250138/684722f7/Its_Snowing__Remastered__.html)
Instruments I plan on learning within the next five years:
Flute.
Clarinet.
Cello.
Chrysothemis

I'm telling you...Burning Nerd...there will be singing!
This is so cool! Thrilled to see so many musicians around :D

I have my grandmother's flute still that I played fooooor 8 years? Maybe 9-ish? I bust it out every now and again to play some sheet music that I have and dearly love -- it's weird I basically still have it memorized!
I also sing...did a lot of choral groups in H.S. and did a musical and what not. Then once in college, since I was at one of the Art Institutes and there aren't any activities outside art, I joined a HUGE church choir. I have done several wedding ceremony songs and events. Would LOVE to join the choir here now that I'm back in college, but my range after having laryngitis for 3 months requires me to do a lot of scales and conditioning or it gets really scratchy REALLY fast...so I'm going to find a church choir and do that for now :)
