View Full Version : NFL Pick 'em 2009 Week 8

Lucky number thirteen again this week, and there are some tough match-ups among them. Will another AFC North team dethrone another unbeaten? Will Tennessee or St. Louis finally redeem themselves against another underperforming foe? Will the Browns and Bears avoid putting the stadium crowd into an unresponsive coma?

Not picking many away games this week. And one of them I did pick is a stretch by any form of imagination.

A lot of ugly games right now. Eagles are dominating the Giants.

The Dolphins lead 24-19 over the Jets - with only 72 total offensive yards. They've scored on Ted Ginn kickoff returns of 100 and 101 yards and on a fumble return of 48 yards.

Wow that is amazing. The Dolphins are a strange team. I am hoping Detroit comes back and win so I can go 8-0.
Well the Rams got their first win. Only the Bucs and Titans are left of the winless teams, only two winless teams left as well.

Edit looks like the Titans will win their first game.

Dragon

Win, heck! They blew the Jaguars out. Chris Johnson took complete control of the game with 239 all-purpose yards, and Vince Young was solid at 15 of 18 for 125 yards and a touchdown, plus 30 yards rushing in his first start of the season.

EDIT: I'm catching up on the highlights on NFL.com for the games I didn't get to see. The Broncos were aided by a pass interference call which helped to set up their lone score, and it was one of the worst interference calls I've ever seen. The defender was trying to elevate along with a much taller receiver and made a fantastic play to break up the long pass. I'm no Ravens fan, and I know it ultimately didn't affect the outcome of the game, but that kind of call is just shameful.

I sucked today :x. Although at least we ALL got the CAR-ARI game wrong. Who saw that one coming?

My MIN-GB picked was admittedly very biased and emotional, and I figured I'd lose that one. But at least GB made it an exciting game in the second half and almost pulled it off. Imagine what might have happened if John Jolly hadn't lost his cool and commited the headbutting foul earlier in the game. Things might have gone a little differently.... :shakefist

Well the Jags didn't give Drew the ball enough. Could have made the game closer. I suppose the other surprise is Arizona who looked horrible against a bad Carolina team.

Especially after how brilliantly the Cards handled the Giants last week. Of course, the Giants just got shelled by the Eagles. I'm not sure what to make of this Giants team; they still have most of the talent that made them the most dominant team in the NFC last year (up until the playoffs, that is). Quelle suprise, we once more have a three-way tie at the top of the NFC East.

Jedi Master Carr
Nov 2nd, 2009, 12:08:07 PM
Only a two way tie because the Giants have now lost 3. I think the Eagles are in position to win the NFC East. They get the Cowboys next at home and I think that defense of theirs will put a lot of pressure on Romo.

The Falcons are doing what no other team has managed to do this season, except maybe the Dolphins for one half - put pressure on Drew Brees. They're playing a very aggressive gameplan on defense, and it's already gotten them a defensive touchdown on a sack-strip.

This is an excellent game so far. Both teams are playing at a very high level.

Jedi Master Carr
Nov 2nd, 2009, 08:57:54 PM
The Falcons have to blitz because their dbs are awful as Brees is now showing.

Edit
That was a quick turnaround 14 points in 30 seconds. Things have just been going the Saints way this year.

Edit
Big TD with the game on the line. It will be tough for the Falcons to win.

Freaky sequence of events has given the Falcons a slim chance!

1st down: Saints run for a short gain, but their center is injured behind the play, and they're forced to call a timeout.

2nd down: Saints run again and are stopped. Falcons call their final timeout.

3rd down: Saints run up the middle, and the Falcons stand up the running back and strip the ball! Falcons first down from their own 45, down by 11 points with 1:23 left.

The Falcons still need two scores, which means they'll need an onside kick... but here I'd already declared this game over and was getting ready to tally everybody's scores!

Falcons kick a FG. Now they need the onside kick, a TD, and a two-point conversion to try to send this into overtime.

WOW! Falcons have the onside kick, and they just completed a pass to midfield and clocked it with 11 seconds left! That's two more plays at the most.

And the Hail Mary pass is picked off after the three-man rush forced Ryan to throw early! Wow, what a game!

It helped that I went on the limb on several games, especially the Titans and Dolphins.

Dragon

I almost went with the Titans myself, but I kinda liked the idea that they hadn't won a game since stomping on the Terrible Towel last December. :p

Now, the Lions and Rams - that was a crapshoot. As well as a crapfest.

That's an understatement for sure. Sometimes I feel like I'd be better off making completely random picks rather than putting time and research into it :mischief.

For me this week, the hardest one to pick was actually the STL-DET game...I'd given Detroit the pick since they were playing at home. Argh. :(

Me too...

This year there has been a lot of good teams that were supposed to be bad, but could only be good because of the schedule, and vice versa. The next couple weeks should be a bit easier I hope.
