The idea is that you get 60 seconds to write about a random word. As far as I'm aware, the word changes each day. Have a go and post up your results if you feel like sharing :)

Crane:

Crane, the crane of cranes. The crane flew around the crane hoping, dreaming, yearning to find a place to set down, there was no place on the crane for the crane. Maybe someday there would be a place for cranes among cranes, but not today. And with a sigh the crane flew away from the crane.

Interesting, except it shows my habit of writing in incomplete sentences too much.

Gem:

The tiniest gemstone was inlaid within the circlet, so small that Miranda might have dimissed it as worthless had she not known better. The larger, brighter baubles drew none of her attention for she knew that it was the rather modest appeaing, perhaps even shy, little gem that held the greatest value.

Gem:

"A gem." That's what Robert had called her. It dripped with inscincerity. A gem. It was what these people called a good joke, wasn't it? These people that sat around the table; the ladies with their gem-encrusted jewellery which glistened like the knowing glances of their men. She was no joke.

Shield

The shield lay on the workbench, glowing in the heat of the fire. Across it was painted an emblem of gold and blue, a rampant beast from a mythic era, head held proudly, claws lashing at the air, daring any tyrant to put a bit in its jaws.
