Holy cow, Jacksonville is up 20-3 on Tennessee, and they're back in the red zone after a Chris Johnson fumble! What the heck happened to the Titans this season?

In the past, we've handed out the worst record for the week minus one when someone misses their picks. We could do that for you for the early games.

After being shut down for most of three quarters and allowing the Browns to take a 20-14 lead, the Bengals finally string some plays together for another go-ahead touchdown inside the final two minutes...
Except the Browns block the extra point! Bengals and Browns are tied at 20 with 1:55 left.

The Bengals actually win in OT. Man the Saints are already kicking the crap out of the Jets in the second qt and Brees has hardly done anything, 14 points by the defense. The Saints should be a team to watch this season.

Wow, I think a lot of us overestimated the impact of losing Chad Pennington on Miami's offense... Chad Henne may not be doing anything spectacular, but the Fins are getting it done with defense and their running game. The Bills still look like they're a real mess.
Gutty win by the Bengals, even though they were absolutely shut down for about two and a half quarters, plus thirteen minutes of overtime. With about a minute twenty left in OT, Cincinnati faced a 4th and 11 at the Browns' 40-yard line, and it appeared that Marvin Lewis was getting ready to send the punt team out. That would've meant conceding any chance at winning the game. Carson Palmer argued that they should go for it, and then he scrambled into the open field and got the first down himself.
You know, if not for a freak tip in week one, the Bengals should be 4-0 right now.

Sanchez looked like a rookie against the Saints. Of course the Saints have a great defense.

haven't seen the highlights yet but looks like 9ers are taking it to the Rams.
And Buffalo is in serious trouble. I mean Miami aren't as bad as they've played in previous weeks, but they aren't great either.

Holy cow. Epic goal-line stand by the Broncos defense, stopping the Cowboys on 4th and goal with one second left. The Broncos start 4-0, who'd have picked that?

Steelers seem to be rolling the Chargers so far, to the tune of 28-0! Great to see the Steelers' O-line generating some push for the running game, and it's doing wonders for Rashard Mendenhall. Good pass protection, too.
This is far from an elite defense they're facing - heck, it's even depleted - but that can be a great tonic for a struggling offense. :)
Next games are against Detroit and Cleveland, and Polamalu should be back, too. Hopefully those will be good warm-up opponents for him.

If it's a Rum Cake.
And holy crap! The Chargers are making a comeback! Best quarter of football I've watched today!

Argh, come on, Steelers defense! :mad
That special teams TD should not have happened. The Chargers picked Stefan Logan up and shoved him backwards for a good three or four yards before he even started to go down; the refs need to blow that play dead. Of course, forward progress isn't reviewable - they just blew the call on the field.
But there's really no excuse for the defensive ineptitude they've been showing right now. Gotta depend on the offense to kill this clock now...
EDIT: Fortunately, the Chargers defense is still the Chargers defense... great time-killing drive for a field goal, and then FINALLY the defense comes up huge with the sack, strip, and fumble recovery!

Don't understand why that fumble wasn't reviewed in the booth. But oh well, Steelers win.
Dragon
Oct 4th, 2009, 09:48:05 PM
Because it was a clear fumble and didn't need to be reviewed? Just like in the end of the Super Bowl? :huh

Oct 4th, 2009, 10:35:50 PM
Didn't look like it from when I saw it, but I only saw it live, and I could be wrong. It's just weird when the officials don't take the chance to review a game ending play. What's lost in a review?

Ugh, I did so badly with my picks this week. The only consolation was having a great time at Buffalo Wild Wings with Ty and Owen - everyone loved Owen's little Reggie Bush Saints jersey. Plus he spent the whole time cheering and clapping.
Too bad I didn't pick NO to win!!! >_<

Well, I guess I'm 11-4 with one game left to go. I thought I was 12-3 but then I just checked and saw I picked SD to win. I'd thought for sure I'd picked Pitt, and I was feeling guilty since I'm a Chargers fan. Oopsie! :o
Dragon

There are only fourteen games this week, so you're either 11-2 or 9-4.
Rutabaga
Oct 5th, 2009, 05:48:48 PM
Must be 9-4 then, because I got 4 wrong. Didn't realize it was only adding up to 14 games this week. :)
Dragon
Oct 5th, 2009, 07:42:04 PM
Well, at least you're still in a position where it's easier to count your losses than your wins. :)
Rutabaga
Oct 5th, 2009, 09:10:43 PM
True, true! :)
Looks like I'm going to end up 10-4, unless the Packers pull something like the Chargers (almost) did last night.

The weekly tally! Shadow Storm, I gave you the worst record minus one, because taking the worst record for the early games minus one and adding your late picks would have been worse. Aurelias Kazaar did not pick, so he gets the same.

A lot of moves today, Crabtree finally signs and the Browns ship Edwards to the Jets.
Xavier Synik

Crabtree signing is good, for both sides, but doubt he'll make an impact until after their bye week. Never know though.
Edwards to the Jets is interesting though.
