Has anyone heard of this movie? My kids are super excited about it and I just watched the trailer - the cast looks awesome. We're gonna pick up the books today and read them before the release.

I have never read the books. My only issue is Chris Columbus is the director and he did direct the weakest of the Potter films.

I saw it in front of Potter 6. I dunno, it seems to me like a fairly obvious cash-in on Harry Potter's success. It's exactly the same concept, just replace "wizard" with "demigod" and "school of magic" with "mythical summer camp." Surely there are other ways to tell stories about magic and myth crossing over into the real world.

I mean, hopefully the author still does some original things with the characters and story, but it's a hard point for me to get over.

Plus... "Percy Jackson"... I mean, that's a horrible thing for an author to do to his protagonist. :p

Even so, looks from the reviews like the books have their fans. You'll have to let us know what you think!

To be honest, the teaser didn't do much for me. But, I'm not the target demographic. ;) Owen just watched it with me and he inserted an appropriate "Woah!" when the elevator shot up, which was pretty funny. ;)
