View Full Version : Burning Nerd Time of Year poll

Yes, so, we all know we want to meet up again next year. The first question to answer is when! Vote for your preferences on month. Don't be afraid to vote for as many months as you'd like. The month or months with the most votes are the ones we'll look at for vacation planning. Sound good?

Then vote away!

PS, hope I didn't fuck the poll. Did I fuck the poll? I hope I didn't fuck the poll.

Voted, though ideally for me it would be the end of the month

You might've accessed the thread before the poll posted somehow. I definitely saw it and was able to vote.

Edit: Also, could the mods/admins drop the hammer of doom on anyone who votes with multiple characters? Thanks. :)

I would prefer it be like, as far off as possible so I can save up money. But if we do it in November, I might miss my mums 50th birthday >_< December/January would be awesomest.

:ohno *waits to see when Xi posts*

Mainly because....ANY time is good for me as long as I've got enough notice.

Kinda the same here, just need to know when so I can request off - long as if it is next winter - then it was to be after New Year's day. I really can't take actual holidays off at that time

Voted for the 3 summer months but late June vs early June.

Fall is a total no go for me.

December is too far away! :(

Yeah, but December means more time to save up money!

Anytime except December for me as it's too close to Christmas and it would be almost impossible to get the time off work.

November because it's my dreaded 30th birthday then.

I'm still in limbo with regards to university next year - with term only a few weeks away, you'd have thought they'd have worked out if I passed the summer exams I took by now... :uhoh - so in the event that I am back, I probably need to keep June and late August free for exams and what-not.

I'd prefer Summer over Winter, just so that I have a few months for my bank balance to recover before I wind up having to buy presents and things. Then again, it might be nice to spend December somewhere that actually has snow...

I'm with Jenny: one get-together would be better than two; partly so I can meet everyone in one go, and thus won't have to sell so many organs to meet y'all. >_<

I voted, but honestly whenever is best for the most people is best for me. I can just start setting aside money now in preparation, and if I can find flights cheap as I did last time, I'll be golden in a couple months.

Everything after June also counts as a new working year for me also, so (if I still have my job) I will have my full allowance of paid vacation to blow :cool

How much did your flights cost you in the end, Jenny?

Dasquian Belargic

Roughly 300 return, with insurance included, from netflights.com. I booked them in January, so maybe that's why they were so cheap? Or perhaps because I went via Amsterdam.

Huh. That's a hell of a lot more reasonable than I was expecting. Awesome. :)

Yeah, I'm not sure how I ended up with such a great deal - maybe the destination, maybe the fact that I booked so far in advance, maybe that I had a connecting fly. Who knows. Hopefully I can hit on that magic formula again next year :)

Netflights.com ftw.

My flight this year was under $200 USD. I checked around (looking at flights for this winter though) and they're not that much more.

I would just like as much time as possible to save up. I didn't spend as much as I thought I would at D*Con, but the hotel ate up a big junk of my "vaca" savings. Even though I loved the hotel....^_^;

Voted. Summer is serious crunch time for me :\ Curse living in a vacation town! I could swing a June trip *Hopes and prays on bended knee* if I give enough notice ahead of time.

Still have money I didn't waste from this Con so it's already been put into the flight fund. But really I can probably find some time in most months so 'm leaving the decision making to the people who are better at making with the decisions.

Maybe we should skip the last 6 months of 2010 and try for a first six months of 2011 gathering, say at like ComicCon in Orlando, FL during Spring Break?

Dasquian Belargic

That is far too far in the future! :ohno

Yes, I need an excuse to get away and slack off for a few days each year...you all is it. Can't bring myself to say I'm going to climb a mountain which is what my usual stand by was....until that Kirk song....

Perhaps we could have two small cost effective get togethers for 2010, one on the west coast for winter, another on the east coast for summer.

No-one wants two meet-ups, we all want to see EVERYONE.

So, no no no on two meet-ups. :p

The multiple choiciness of the poll is making it look rather even. :p

Couldn't agree more on this! Let's keep it to one per-year at the most, please! lol
Aside from "cost" issues, just getting time off work for two is basically a no-go and yeah... seeing everyone who can attend at one go is much better than than splitting it up into two "groups"

The multiple choiciness of the poll is making it look rather even. :p

lol ...wonder if it would have been any different if we had started with seasons and then broken it down into months from there?

Hmm... maybe better to simply find out when people can't attend and then go from that point?

These results basically say that there's a small core group of people who are 100% ambivalent and can go anytime and everyone else has a big scatter of preferences vs not. So, sort of useful. We know we cannot please a majority very well, or even a large portion of a majority.

any of them work for except december and july. December I so no cause I'll be to broke to do anything that month. July no because it's hard as hell to get time off in that month at my job since everyone is fighting over time off then.

Miranda Tarkin
Sep 16th, 2009, 07:01:28 PM
Ok... since we really don't care when, maybe we should pick a month outta the hat except July since that behind by one XD
