Because of how royally buggered about I'm being by work and finances, I'm going to have to reduce my attendance status to "definitely maybe".

I definitely want to come, and definitely will if I can get the money together, but I need to wait for work to stop being a bitch with my shifts and pay, and also until I've found somewhere else to live other than a chair in my sister's studio flat. :x

With luck, I should be able to have the funds together around June/July... hopefully that'll still be far enough in advance to get a reasonable price. :ohno

I bought my tickets. I will be arriving in Reno via LAX @ 18:35 on 30/10/2010 (earliest arrival I could get on that day) and departing on the same flight as Dani!

My status in attending this event has changed from 'not possible' to 'maybe'. I definitly won't fly, but I may take train. Have to customize my route though, because the 'suggested route' would have me going up to Washington DC, then Chicago IL, before finally heading to Reno in a 96 hour trip, although total would be 274$ for round trip.

EDIT: No Wait my bad, 274$ one way, which for round trip would put the total at 548$, which is about 50$ cheaper than the cheapest round trip flight I could find. I would spend perhaps 186 or so more hours traveling, but as a railfan I would actually enjoy it. And it would be more comfortable too.

I must have earned some nasty karma at some point in my life, because the bitch has come back and bitten me on my sizable ass.

For anyone who's caught one of my rants before, my job is just ninety-three kinds of god-awful. Its been so damn stressful this year that by June 1st, I'd used all of my sick time, and was forced to burn through all of my vacation time instead of taking unpaid days. I still put in for taking that first week of November off, even unpaid, deciding I would rather scrape by than not come.

Well, needless to say, I work for a bunch of pricks. My request got denied every single time I put in for it, with various excuses - 'we'll be busy and we need you' or 'we might schedule an event and you have to be here for it' or, my favorite, 'no one is allowed to take days off that week' - unless of course, you're the Executive Director or the Office Manager or one of the Registered Reps...really, anyone except me, because they don't think I'll notice that one of the other four people in the office got their request approved when it shows up on our calendar.

Hell, I even cleared missing rehearsals for the fall show with my director, and was going to change my flights to come back Sunday so I'd be here for the dress rehearsal on Monday the 8th.

But no. Even unpaid, I can't get the time off. And even though I've been looking for a few months now, I haven't found another job. So I'm stuck.

With a job that sucks and no BN to look forward to.

That's why I disappeared for almost a week...I finally gave up beating my head against the concrete wall at work and canceled my flights.

As far as what weather to pack for, I would recommend warm-ish clothes. It's a bit unpredictable, so be ready for wind, rain, sun, and/or snow :)

Ah yes, weather in the west in the fall is a bit manic. Can go from blazing hot and dry to wet windy and freezing very quickly. (And back again before you know it, or not.) So layers are the norm out this way. Would also recommend that everyone stock up on their favorite immune booster, vitamine C type thing. The quick snaps from hot to cold jack with you bodies ability to fight off colds.
