Shadow Storm
Aug 16th, 2009, 12:24:39 PM
In the space of 48 hours we go from 0 named storms in the Atlantic to 3. Tropical Storms Ana, Bill, and Claudette have been named, and all three look to be impacting the United States in about one to two weeks time, if not sooner.

Claudette is the immediate problem, having formed from Invest 91L in the Gulf of Mexico this morning, and aiming for the Florida Panhandle and Alabama with gusty winds and lots of rainfall. Although the system is already nearing landfall, a Humberto like spinup into a hurricane is not out of the question, with ripe conditions for rapid intesification present, like unusually warm waters in the Gulf, and low wind shear present.

Out in the Atlantic, Ana is struggling to hold together while approaching the Lesser Antillies. Over the course of her life she has always been struggling, having at one time weakened into a remnant low before re-organizing into TD#3. This storm, under the current forecasts, is supposed to be in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico by 8AM Friday as a weak depression after traversing landmasses such as Hispanola and Cuba.

Bill, about 72 hours behind Ana, is growing stronger, and is expected to become a major hurricane by 8AM Wensday, but is expected to remain well out to sea.

More updates as they become avialable.

As long as they stay away from Myrtle this week, I'll be a happy Snacky.
