View Full Version : Fleeting and Piloting

There isn't much going on at the minute; and that leaves characters inclined towards that sort of thing without much to do. Rather than pitch another combat / piloty type thread, I was wondering if anyone would be up for <s>ripping off</s> taking some inspiration from Battlestar Galactica.
If you've watched it, then I'm preaching to the choir; if you haven't, Battlestar is basically about the crew of a Carrier in space, that is leading a bunch of ships on the run from evil, murderous robots. The old one was very focussed on the Pilots and the Commander, but the new one throws in more characters that sorta fill in the gaps in the middle. And instead of being about space battle after space battle, the series focuses more on the character development side of things, how characters cope with the situation that they are in, etc.
I was wondering if anyone would be up for trying to get some people together to be the crew of a ship. Not just the commanders and the pilots, but the deck crew, the technicians, the guys on the bridge, the doctors, and all that jazz. If you're inclined towards the fleeting/piloting side of things, we can use the characters/ship to fight a battle, but if you're not, or in between those threads, we can hang around and do the whole drama / development / angst thing.
If nothing else, it'll hopefully give us an environment to do something with characters that we aren't really getting to use when the relevant threads are going on. *shrug*

She mentioned it, but you guys are doing something Imperial; doesn't really give the existing Rebel pilots much to do. ;)
I guess a good idea is a good idea... it just seems like we've got a lot of people who clearly want to have pilot and fleet characters and what-not, but who are sat around without much to do because every thread we try and run just fizzles out. Its a shame to waste all those character ideas. :\

You I have a rebel fleet character that hasn't been up to much.
Captain Yumina Sokai is in charge of a flotilla of light vessels that has been cut off from the bulk of the rebel fleet after Endor (though the current one is still a bit in shambles and spread out).
They're out drifting about and conducting hit and run attacks all along the Correllian Trade Spine, acting independently of the Alliance command structure. At this point they're almost more like raiders or pirates.
Some food for thought from my end. I really like this idea and I'd love to be a part of this (either the Imps or the Alliance, don't care which).

Since my Fleety character is at a loose end as well, Karl, how would you feel about trying to come up with a premise to amalgamate the two groups, somehow? Sounds like the MO for the two units is much the same anyway, though at the minute my guys are focussing on the Hydian Way. Might be able to conjure up something that makes sense.
I shall grab you for [insert whatever the PC term for "brainstorming" is nowadays] on AIM, if I spot ya.

I think the term is 'plotting' or perhaps 'scheming'

I read the letters F L E and clicked on this....
Seeing as this is geared towards the Alliance, I'll do what I do best and counter with some Imperial action.
This works out well for myself, as I have been wanting to expand on Travis' fleet, and for other characters. Trix is supposed to be joining Travis on the flagship shortly after A Memorable Evening and I'd also been wanting to incorporate the Termagant and its lot of flyers into a solid force for some combined roleplaying.

For those who are interested in the Imperial version of this that myself and Emelie came up with, check out: http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php?title=Kalidor :D

Plotting, scheming, deliberating, discussing, arguments, fall-outs, and make-up sex have all ensued; we've now sorta got a working theory of how things our gonna come together. :mischief
A quick run-down of the boring details: we focus on Task Force 75 (http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php?title=Task_Force_75). There are a bunch of smaller ships; the two big ones of note are the Horizon (this class (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Victory_I-class_Star_Destroyer)) and the Challanger (this class (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Venator_Star_Destroyer)).
Horizon = Galactica. She's commanded by Vansen Tyree (Untouchable), and will probably have most of the players aboard, if everyone is cool with that. She has a handful of ships with her as well - some are escorts; the rest are the supply/cargo ships that help us stay in space without having to refuel all the time... and they're also a convenient plot device to give our pilots something to actually defend if anyone attacks. We've got a CO, and XO/CAG, and a couple of pilots thus far... let me know if you wanna call shotgun on any of the roles, if you have questions, or if you just wanna hurl abuse, or whatever.
Challanger = Pegasus. The only character we intend to have aboard is the Captain, Yumina Sokai (Karl). The ship is the heart of its own little Strike Group, which has a bunch of small ships like this (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/MC30c_frigate), this (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DP20_frigate), and this (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Interceptor-class_frigate) in it. Its all a convenient ex deus machina as far as the plot goes - an undefined additional group of fighters; extra ships if we need them, but organised into a self-contained unit that can be conveniently absent "on assignment" if we need it to be, etc.
Uhh... that's everything, I think. Horizon has an A-, X-, and Y-Wing Squadron, as well as some nifty shuttles. If there's something you want to do that hasn't been mentioned... nag me or something.
