View Full Version : Dorn Force Planning Thread

Figured I'd post all of this in a new thread, since new threads generally make people giddy and excited.

After a great deal of brain racking, I've got an outline for a pretty simple mission for Dorn Force. Its a straight-forward op (though with pleanty of potential to go wrong and add some interest), but it should tie in nicely with some other stuff that is going on around the forums, and will have pleanty of potential for us to follow on and continue down the same story route.

The Premise

Empress Tarkin has managed to engineer the election of an Imperial as the new leader of the Corporate Sector. Under the leadership of Moff Delgado Xaanan, arrangements have been made to provide the Sector with a (moderate) force of Imperial vessels, to aid in their defense against the Rebellion, piracy, and other parties.

The influx of Imperial ships has displaced some of the existing military that the Corporate Sector had for defense. As part of their new agreement with the Empire, those ships have been redeployed to help police the Hydian Way - where Rebel ships have recently been conducting a series of effective hit-and-run raids against CorpSec supply convoys. Arrangements are being made to establish safepoints in the space around the trade route: fortified systems that convoys can aim for, so that the likelihood of the rebels being able to mount a successful ambush when they drop out of Hyperspace is slim.

The Mission

One of these fortified worlds is Ruuria. Our mission is simple: infiltrate the Imperial facility on the planet, and steal the communications protocols. This will allow the Alliance to access the secure frequencies being used by the Corporate Sector and their Imperial friends: we'll be able to find out their deployment, convoy schedules, and all manner of similar things, which will help the hit-and-run missions to continue to be effective.

Maxx Elgrin will travel to Ruuria first, and will scout around; gather the sort of local intelligence we will need. He's our "man on the ground" for when the rest of us arrive, and will help direct and coordinate the mission when we attempt to infiltrate the Imperial base. When the rest of us arrive, he will be joined by Oran Jsorra, who will be providing technical support.

The Infiltration Team will be led by John Glayde. As per the original roles we chatted about way back when, Charlotte Tur'enne will be in charge of getting us into the facility; Kyran O'Hurn will be in charge of large guns and explosions, while Serasai Onashi will be there to flirt inappropriately with anyone who is even remotely attractive. ;)

The Thread

Since we got bogged down with the preparations and getting to know each other stuff on our last mission, I'd like to jump straight in with the Infiltration Team arriving at the planet, meeting up with Maxx, and then getting on with the job at hand.

I'll give you guys an opportunity to weigh in with comments, complaints and criticisms for a little while before I throw up the first post. Chime in with your like or dislike; if I get a full set of thumbs up, I'll post then... if anyone doesn't pipe up by then, but no one has any problems, then I'll kick start things come Friday regardless.

Sound like a plan?

I'm not sure I'm totally comfortable with Onashi flirting with me... :p

other then that I have no problems with it as stated...

Might suggest that we set it up as two teams Charlotte and Glayde (and Onashi if that's where he slots in best) head off to one side to secure the codes, while Kyran and a "red suited Star Trek type character" (or 2?) ;) head off to create a distraction. Something like heading for the armory in the facility or something that will go boom but will appear to be the primary goal of the infiltration to keep the Imps from noticing that the codes were downloaded and thus causing them to change them.

I think Maxx can be all persuasive enough to gather some Intel for this mission

PS - go me :p

A distraction. Good plan!

What if we split the group in half: had Glayde, Charlotte and Jsorra (to do the techno-geek stuff) go to hit the core, while Kyran, Onashi and Redshirt handle the distraction? That'll provide Glayde and Charlotte with a lameo guy to make them look cooler by comparison, means that we have two players in each place to allow for interaction, and still leaves Ky and Nash with a redshirt who they can get killed, or whatever?

Yay look at me finally reading the thread (Told you I would.)

Sounds all good to me. I think splitting into two groups so that one can go toss about some distractions is a wonderful idea. Thinking the Kyran (You have no idea how much I wanted to type in "Archy" or "Grumpy" or something else there... But for everyone else's sake I'll keep it simple ;) )/Onashi/Red-Shirt and Glayde/Charles/Oran are good ways to split everyone up too. Gives us all someone to actually play off of which will hopefully keep the thread moving too. I'm sure Maxx could hop in somewhere if he wanted to continue with the mission (or if he got paid enough to continue...) after we all meet up too, maybe over on the distraction side to just balance out actual writers on the back end of things? Just tossing that out.

Yeah...that's about all my brain is going to let me ramble off on this one for now. But see Captain? See? Toldja I'd post. :lol

Didn't doubt it for a second. ;)

Alrighty. Yay for impatience - I know I said Friday, but I got bored, so I've thrown up the start of our new thread: A New Dawn (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?p=315691). Yes, I did just spend the last 20 minutes searching Amazon for book titles for a vaguely appropriate one with "Dawn" in, to make some kind of Dawn/Dorn pun. Moving swiftly on...

Left things kinda vague and open. For those who care, we're aboard a YT-2000 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/YT-2000). For those who don't... well, we still are.

Its probably worth giving Maxx the chance to post up a reaction to that extremely lamely coded message; just to establish that he's there, he knows we're coming, and that he'll meet us at some pre-arranged location (a café, a cantina, or some such). After that, I'll leave it up to Grumpy, Shiny and Sassy to arm/sumo/mud wrestle over who posts next. Shall we aim for a post each, in amongst which we get the ship on the ground, and then set Glayde up to wander out of the cockpit and conveniently move the plot along?

I know y'all want to shoot things as soon as possible, so the quicker we get the premise set up, the better. ;)

Crap. Well, perhaps I should read more thoroughly before posting and ruining your order. Sorry about that. I shouldn't have let the euphoria of access to a computer overwhelm me so much. |I

*shrug* In that case, lets just go with a free-for-all for now; I'm far too anal and organised anyway, so messing it up probably isn't a bad thing. ;)

To make things easier and quicker... I probably should have done the scouting already and you all could be meeting up with me? :) I can give the team the low down and provide back up and a quick getaway incase things get messy

Yeah; that works. If we meet up at some rendezvous or other, we can jump straight from that to actually going in, and breaking out the awesome.

I think Ky is on holiday at the minute; wanna sneak in an establishing "I'm waiting at the rendezvous, and have been on this planet for days" post, or do you want me to just move us in that direction so we can get the preamble stuff done while Ky sits stoically in the corner?

I fell asleep half-way through writing an Aiden reply. >_< I'll get myself back in the right mindset, and finish that off for you in a few!
