The film tells the story of the relationship between a woman, Summer (Zooey Deschanel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zooey_Deschanel)), who doesn't believe in true love and a man, Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Gordon-Levitt)), described as a hopeless romantic,<sup id="cite_ref-mtv_3-0" class="reference">[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/500_Days_of_Summer#cite_note-mtv-3)</sup> who falls in love with her. Over a span of 500 days, the story moves in a non-linear fashion from the perspective of Tom, who goes from ecstatic giddiness one moment, indulging in a fantasy song and dance sequence at one point, to crippling depression the next. It features two songs ("Us" and "Hero") by Regina Spektor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regina_Spektor), and "Sweet Disposition" by Melbourne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne)-based band The Temper Trap (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Temper_Trap).

Also :love Joseph Gordon-Levitt - anyone else hear the similarities between him and Heath Ledger here? They always looked alike but now he sounds like Heath too :o

I've loved JGL since his days as little Tommy in 3rd Rock from the Sun. He's a cracking actor and while I generally stay away from romantic comedies, this looks really well done and not riddled with cliché after cliché. If I find the right crowd to go with then I might check it out at the cinema. :)

I don't think this necessarily looks like a chick flick. It's okay for men to feel romantic sometimes too, and this doesn't look so soppy that you feel you like need to grow a pair of ovaries to enjoy :)
