According to the Discworld calendar, July 6th is Patricians Day! Everyone have a pint (err...) of scumble in honour of good old Lord Havelock Vetinari. May his reign continue to be long, fruitful and free of mimes! For those not in the know about our venerable leader, you can read his biography HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Havelock_Vetinari).
This has been another Discworld-obsessed announcement, brought to you by CMOT Dasquian.

I've had that book for... christ, a few years now and I've never managed to get past chapter one. I don't know whyyyy; it isn't as if it's not interesting. :(
Discworld is one of those series that I keep meaning to read but never do.

I'm exactly the same. Seen the TV adaptation of Hogfather (which was awesome), and I've read a few exerpts here and there... but I've just never got around to sitting down with the first book and reading it properly.
Wanna try and get hold of a copy and read it together, book-club style, Liz?

If you're having trouble with A Colour of Magic, then start with Guards, Guards! instead.

I wasn't a huge fan of the SkyOne adaptations - a lot of PTerrys humour is lost in the translation from text to screen.
There are a few ways of going about reading them, different orders and such... I didn't start with Colour of Magic or Guards Guards actually.. I think Men At Arms or Soul Music was my first! The Fifth Elephant is still my fav :)

The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic are a lot different than the other books, in my opinion. Still good, but a little... I don't know, disjointed at times.

I guess that's because he was still getting into his groove back then. There are a few books that stand apart from the overall series, though that's more because of the content than the style I guess. Pyramids and Small Gods come to mind. Great books nonetheless, though :)
