What kind of camera do you have? I have a fairly nondescript digital Fuji 'Finepix z5' right now but I have been looking at possibly buying one of these badboys (girls?)

http://www.fredflare.com/customer/product.php?productid=3791&cat=402

I haven't owned an actual film camera for a long time. Does anyone here currently use one?

I have a Nikon D60 w/55-200mm lens and a little Coolpix S550.

All I have is a crappy Cannon PowerShot SD10000. I'd really like a decent camera, tripod, and a decent Macro and Wide-angle lens

Nikon D60 with an 18-55mm lens and a 55-200mm lens. I love it so much more than my point and shoot (and the quality is waaaaay better).

I am happy not to mess with film.

We have some digital camera. I don't know what kind as I don't use it very much.

Most of my photos are taken with a Canon EOS Rebel 2000 and developed at home. :)

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XSi and the following lenses:
Canon EFS IS 55-250mm/4-5.6f
Canon EFS IS 18-55/3.5-5.6f
Canon EF 50mm/1.8f

Shoots insanely sexy. My buddy had his Nikon (D40, I believe) on the last rock climbing trip we took. He reached for my camera all the time instead :)

Of course; because you're house didn't sound awesome enough, you obviously have your own darkroom. >_<

Jealous.

It's just a bunch of equipment jammed into the laundry room; we switch the lightbulbs and jam a towel under the door when we need to develop. Pretty amateur setup. My dad has a gorgeous studio though. I guess that's what's good about your kids growing up and bunking off - spare rooms aplenty. *wistful sigh*

I would too. The D40 is only 6 megapixels. =)

I had a helluva time choosing between the Nikon D60 and the Cannon (can't remember exact model I was pricing at the time.) when I was choosing last year. I ended up going w/the D60 because it fit better in my hands than the Cannon.

Probably the 50D or the 40D? Really its quite a toss up.

Also probably the best camera site on the net for lenses etc: http://www.adorama.com/

50D and the 40D have only very minor in reality differences in performance. A lot of serious photographers have a 40D as a backup - And I looooooove my 40D to bits. It's a great sports camera.

Canon 40D
Canon 20D (old faithful)
18-55 kit lens
55-200 f5.6 that I dont use
18-85 f4.5 40D kit lens - surprisingly good
2* L series teleconverter
2* shit teleconverter
Sigma speedlite (I think, I hardly use it)
50 mm f1.8
70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM OMG this lens is just the bestest damn thing.

Film sucks ass. I'm glad it's been well and truly nuked by digital.

And in the I want for christmas and looking seriously at - the Canon 1D MkIII sports. Lower mp count than the 5D MkII, but the fact it's focus is far faster and accurate makes for better pictures. Took one for a test drive and OMG WANT WANT WANT

And in the you are going to hate me, I have a Canon 7D on order. Went to do some test shots and it's simply almost as good as the Canon 1D - and also grabbing one of those too. I can decide on waiting for the Mark IV or get a second hand Mk III - still, I gona have me some real camera firepower :D

I did a back to back with the old 40D I have and the 7D - the difference is amazing with exactly the same lens and settings.

http://www.alliancemotorsport.org/gallery/d/87338-2/IMG_6491.JPG

Rotten light for the most part, a fair bit of distance back - that one was with the 70-200 2.8 I have. The 40D's shots were worthless and I couldnt get a thing under ISO 800 to come out half decent so I didnt bother keeping them.

http://www.alliancemotorsport.org/gallery/d/87341-2/IMG_6504_001.JPG

7D at ISO 400, 1/50, kit lens and no problem.

Nothing really special here to see in reality except that I could get a shot at all.

The only other comment is that the AF system in the 7D is a touch complex and I am getting the hang of it. I generally just let it do it's thing - some shots are very crisp, some suck as you would expect. Big deal, it's the dickhead behind the lens who had an issue, not the camera.

This boring shot really surprised me greatly...

Without worth artisically of course but the fact that there's a bee in the white flower that I had not a hope in hell of ever seeing from where the shot was taken that I could see quite clearly when looking at the full size that impressed.

Also used the video feature - it's quality is damn good too.

I would say that the 7D is a genuine pro level APS-C crop camera.

It's not a easy camera to use tho - you DO have to learn it and it's AF is not for amateurs.

It's reputation however for complete awesome is well earned however and really does make film look like a sad sick joke.

It's remarkable how much of a difference there is from the 40D (a very good camera) to the 7D. It's nearly double the pixels, but it's the sensitivity to light that makes it incredible.

Also, is that an A380?

Very very very true.

The main reason I want the 7D over the 5D or the T2i it is it's sensor chip. It's closer in size to 35mm film frame whereas the 5D/T2i are somewhere around the size of the 2/3rds chips in pro-video cameras. For most people not a big deal but there's a method to my madness of wanting the bigger sensor.

Not to mention I actually prefer it's HD video to the Red. :evil

You should see the .raw files comparison - I sold the 40D because I honesty just would never use it again. Realy was a pity as the 40D really is a good camera, just the 7D is brilliant

Yes, A380.

Mu - the 5D/5DMkii is the full frame (35mm) so I think you have somethign confused here, unless the names are different in the States. The 7D has a smaller (APS-C) sensor.... BUT that said it does produce better video than anything in the Canon range at present. The T2 is however quite a deal behind either.

A 5DMKii with the full frame is a better studio camera (and IT'S files are enormous), the 7D more of a action / outdoors camera. Both produce gorgeous photos.... but they compliment each other, rather than compete. The 7D is built to take pictures of things that move.
