I should be happy. Relieved. Sure, the fact that I have to pay a part of someone else's rent for the next five months is hardly ideal, but the fact that its over is a good thing. If that's true, then why do I still have this aching emptiness inside?

So far okay... kinda scary when the ridge we can see went up. Got so bright it caused the street lights to turn off. Which was...kinda amusing and scary and such all at the same time.

Seems to have relaxed a bit and the news reports (that love to make everything sound a billion times worse than it is) honestly didn't seem that concerned about it.

Still in a mandatory evac zone...which no clue how long that'll last. They haven't really come around to yell at us to leave (they did so when it first started...which I swear is to more get the panicky people out of the way. They still come around every so often and are kinda like "you guys know you're in an evac zone, right?" "yep." "alrighty...have a nice night") ...but they aren't letting anyone back in that leaves (uhh...yay...no work tomorrow for me, I guess.)

So as long as the winds stay dead we should be fine. Helicopter and plane drops should start up again in the morning...

It's really just kinda annoying since they're letting the fire pretty much burn where it wants...not going after it unless it's threatening homes, so while the entire hillside behind my house is on fire...it's not close enough to really be an issue for them. They're out there though, waiting for it to get closer...so that's reassuring.

I guess part of the problem is I live...well...right next to a national forest. And I guess the rule there is basically...let it do it's thing. So the fire is massive and scary...but they really only act on it if it's threatening people.

I heard on the news that the fire probably won't be contained for another week. Its just too big and hot. There's only so much firefighters can do, after all. Its probably not so much 'lets just let it burn' so much as 'we can't do much more than just let it burn, but lets try to save the houses as much as we can.' :)

Also, evac zones are for your protection. I'm glad you didn't get burned up in the night. But when people don't evacuate when they're told to and then they get stuck because the fire is right there...

This made the 37 mile bike ride and climbing competition on Sunday pretty difficult. Well, that plus the fact I had been up until 4 AM the previous night drinking and playing Rock Band. But it's not like I could say no, one of the guys there was a DJ and had a light assembly and fog machine for us to use.
