For those of you who may have a novel or one that's in progress to get published. There is a contest being held if your interested (http://www.sffchronicles.co.uk/2009/06/war-of-the-words-writing-competition/). I believe it said the due date is August.

What is considered as "fantasy"? The novel I'm working on doesn't have monsters or magic or anything, but it is set in a "made up" world with made up countries etc. That count?

tempting - have to think if I actually have a fully plotted out story arc somewhere in the filing cabinet. Perhaps just the excuse I need to pry open the folders and blow the dust off of what's in there. :)

"There must be a novel completed and available for review by 20 August 2009 should the judging panel request to see the full novel."

Damn. Two months? Nope. Sorry. I'd have to quit my job and write all day every day and, even then, it wouldn't be up to my own personal standards.

I'm estimating 5 months until I have my first draft done. Then I'll do my chapter-by-chapter edit, peer edits, and final polish edits before I show it to anyone with the power to put it in print.

Too bad.
