Ahoy matey! How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck would chuck an amount of wood?
Two exciting announcements today.
The first one is for the fans of the original classic, curse of the Monkey Island. :dance

The second announcement is a brand new Monkey Island game is on the way, tentatively named Tales of Monkey Island. It is made by Telltale Games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telltale_Games). Telltales have shown that they master the point & click adventure format, and even put Sam & Max back on the map with episodical content. Tales of Monkey Island will have 5 episodes. The episode format suited well for Telltale's other games like, "Strong Bad", "Bone", "Wallace and Grommit", "Sam & Max".
But enough chit chat, here is a trailer:

Hah I've never played the game but I've always heard it was a classic. Some of the lines were pretty funny. I like the work they did on the classical bringing it up to date. Impressive.

Telltale usually release their games through Steam... I wonder if this means that we will see other LucasArts titles available on Steam too :eek
Either way, exciting stuff :) I have always wanted to play the original Monkey Island.

While explosively stripping the evil pirate LeChuck of his demonic mojo, Guybrush Threepwood inadvertently infects the entire Caribbean with the arch-fiend's expelled voodoo, which threatens to transform buccaneers into unruly pirate monsters. Pursued by a notorious cut-throat Pirate Hunter and a creepy French Physician who believes that Guybrush's eerily-infected hand holds the secret of eternal life, Threepwood sails the seven seas in search of La Esponja Grande, a legendary sea sponge with unparalleled voodoo exfoliating abilities. But little does Guybrush know, his quest is part of a larger, more sinister plot, and good and evil are not always as they seem...
Who can Guybrush trust? Where can he turn? Everything you think you know will be challenged as Tales of Monkey Island builds to its unexpected finale!
This is a new five-part adventure from LucasArts, which you can buy as of right now (I just bought it myself!) This first chapter is available now, and others will be released one a month for the subsequent five months. If nothing else, it's a little treat to look forward to whenever next month rolls around :D Additionally, at least in the UK, if you purchase before July 14 you also get Wallace & Gromit Episode 1: Fright of the Bumblebees for free right away.
I'm off to play Chapter 1, Launch of the Screaming Narwhal - will report back soon ;)
EDIT: This is fun :) The visuals are quite simple in spite of being 3D, but they are simple in a good way... all of Guybrush's facial expressions are very entertaining :mneh The puzzles haven't been too tricky and the game has been making me smile consistently, so I'd give it a thumbs up so far!

Well, I finished the first chapter already. That is the main downside to these episodic games, I guess - they don't go on for half as long as you want them too. Overall, I'd say it was pretty fun. The puzzles were challenging but not so much that you felt like you had to wander around using every item on every person to work out what the hell you were supposed to be doing. Luckily, Guybrush also gives you hints from time to time, if it seems like you are at a total loss. Oh, here's a trailer just incase anyone hasn't seen what the game actually looks like:
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EHojfwdLucI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EHojfwdLucI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Looking forward to August and chapter 2, now :) Yarrr.
On another note, you get an installment of the Wallce & Gromit game by TellTale free when you buy this right now. I have played a little of that. It seems much easier than Monkey Island so far, but I like that they took the time to animate the characters to they look like they're made out of clay :)

I bought both the new and the old Monkey Island games since I'd never played the old one before. I absolutely loved the old one - even from 20 years ago and PG rated, it held up really well. So far I'm loving the new one. Only a little ways in (or so I assume anyway) and the story is great. Only thing I don't like is the control scheme for moving Guybrush. But maybe I'll get used to that.

Yea, I read a lot of people were unhappy with the point-and-click controls (or lack thereof) - but I didn't mind using WASD to move Guybrush around. Grim Fandango had a similar control style, if I remember rightly :)
