did anyone else watch it?
I will post the comment that I just put on my facebook here and then start to get into details on my thoughts:
Peter Sturm (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1246537740&ref=nf) watched the Microsoft E3 press conference and feels kind of strange now.
Left 4 Dead 2 is anounced and it features melee weapons, awesome!
Last.FM, Facebook and Twitter for X360 NICE! now I do not need to tell people my gamerscore, facebook is going to do that for me!
Now comes the scary part: google/youtube "xbox natal"!...by the time most of you are reading this the web will be full of videos and first impressions... once you have seen IT tell me that those two chicks in the video conference did not scare the hell out of you!
So ok the Call of Duty Stuff and the splinter Cell presentation were cool but nothing mindblowing.
1080p for TV on demand...certainly nice for people with full HD TV
Last.fm for X360 sounds cool but I normaly listen to music in the background while playing arcade games so I hope you can run it in the background.
I love the silliness of facebook with all its polls and stuff and I love this here:
http://360voice.gamerdna.com/blog.asp?tag=CrusaderJ11
so if Facebook or Twitter would be able to share your and your friends progress that would be cool since I love to track that everyone else is playing right now.
OK the L4D trailer looked not so exciting from a visual aspect but having melee combat in L4D makes the experience more complete for me.
...achievement unlocked: SPLIT PERSONALITY: turned a hunter into 2 with a chainsaw while he is pouncing
The Final Fantasy presentation looked kind of lame and outdated. The not rendered visuals do not look state of the art anymore.
Was the Hideo Kojima part ment to harm Microsoft or Sony? I am not quite sure if an exclusive game about Raiden is a bonus for Microsoft or Sony.
Ok and then there is "natal". A scary little mofo this thing. The whole presentation was pretty mind blowing until Spielberg and Crazy Pet' arrived (aka Peter Molyneux).
The trailer started pretty funny and then got more and more creepy. Like I wrote above: Those two chicks in the conference scared the hell out of me.
The two demos were awesome. I don't see me painting any elephants yet but the possibilities looked amazing.
Then there was Spielberg(damn he looks old) on stage telling us how cool that stuff is that we have just seen. OK he owns a game company now and he brings some glamour to E3 but his input was not really necessary.
And then there was the hour of Crazy Pet'. Well it was not really an hour but it felt like one...honestly. He promised us the blue from the sky again and showed us this demo that was definetly prescripted and not in this world a true proof of concept. But I admit it looked pretty cool and if only half or a quarter of it would make it into a real game this would be awesome but hopefully it won't be a Peter Molyneux game because I stopped buying his games a long time ago. One day Peter Molyneux, John Romero and now George Brussard should realize that they one day need to retire...maybe start a golf or chess club.
Ok to sum things up.
Natal seems to be pretty exciting but it is a really scary little guy.

I love all the motion sensor stuff on the Xbox Natal... reminds me of those badass touch-screen type things in Minority Report ^_^;

The concept it's pretty awesome and when I first watched the trailer it blew my mind away, but once I settled down and thought of all the possibilities, it seemed a bit freaky.

It helps to post said trailer :)
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lKY9bbRsjoE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lKY9bbRsjoE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
As a sidenote, I think this is totally awesome, and just what the Xbox 360 really needed. It was the main selling point of the Nintendo Wii. But then MS comes up with something that not only does the same, but does it a lot better? Some kudos deserved.

Colour me extremely dubious! I will be surprised if it works anywhere near as well as it suggests in that trailer.
Edit: Oh, and I watched some of the E3 presentation on this thing just now, with some girl hitting balls or something, and the guy talking couldn't help but give a very snide dig at the Wii. I'm sorry, Nintendo got there first and now these are taking their revolution and just expanding upon it. It might be impressive but it certainly doesn't warrant sneering at the innovators who paved the way for their gaming technology.

They did not make fun of Spielberg and Molyneux! I could have lived on without their 5 cents on Natal!

If Microsoft can make Natal work as well as they make it appear in their marketing campaign, it could be huge. Latency is always a concern with this sort of thing, as is the actual accuracy of the motion capture. The Wii, while fun for some things, is also very quirky at times and it can be downright terrible using the standard Wii-mote for certain games and functions. Natal will need to make some large improvements over what Nintendo currently has on the market to make this project work.
It's ambitious, but it's also pretty damn cool.

... and here is a counterpoint:

Edit: also this (http://gizmodo.com/5280496/project-natal-won-e3-and-maybe-the-motion-control-wars?skyline=true&s=x).
You may be as sceptic as you want, Droo, but this is a next generation motion control system. It's full 3D body motion tracking, not shaking two sticks around in the air. If you want to see a real rip-off, check out what the copy cats (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiX-26VL4bM) at Sony announced at E3..
I for one always applauded Nintendo for their innovative motion controler, and what they did to push interactive console gaming. But one would either have to be blind or a rampant fanboy to not see this is an evolutionary step, if not industry changing innovation. Also, Mike Ferro saying the tech is not much different to the Xbox Live Vision Cam, that's a bit like comparing a plastic toy car with a Ferrari. It is laughable how crappy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JO9D4DujsY) it is.

The bit that jumps out at me is:
All I’m going to say about Milo is that its not legit. There were a lot of smoke and mirrors going on there, not the case with the ball demo [Ricochet] and the other stuff but with Milo there was definitely a little bit of deception going on.
It sounds like a lot of what was done was real, but on this one game there was a little behind the scenes stuff at work, maybe because it is still being developed?
Yog
Jun 10th, 2009, 02:00:22 AM
^^ Yeah, the smoke and mirror stuff was related to Peter Molyneux's tech demo of Milo, and it's use of supposedly advanced AI, face recognition and speech recognition. That is something Molyneux should be blamed for though, not Microsoft. It remains to be seen if MS came up with anything better than the industry standard in those areas.

When you're having full blown conversations with computer game characters, then I'll admit it's this marvellous thing, until then I just don't think the technology is quite as revolutionary as they claim, not yet, the ideas are great but I'm not holding my breath.
