I follow Nathan Fillion on Twitter, and he just tweeted the link to this fanmade trailer for Green Lantern, featuring Nathan as Hal Jordan. For a fanmade trailer, this is an awesome piece of work. I would like to see this movie :).

That was great! The only time I felt slightly drawn out believing it was real was a line that sounded like it was from Lord of the Rings, and a shot that I think was from The Fountain. Otherwise, very nicely editted! Reminds me of the fan-made Thundercats trailer that's lurking about on Youtube somewhere, with Brad Pitt as Lion-O.

Impressive work for being fan-made. If not for some very familiar scenes and dialogue from other well-known films, that would come very close to passing for a real trailer.
I'd want to see that movie too.

Yeah, that was cool. Can't wait for the actual movie to come out in 2010. At least they now have a budget and location (http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/04/16/green-lantern-movie-will-shoot-in-sydney-with-150-million-budget/)

I recognised most of the clips they used in that. ^_^;
Even so, it was awesomely well put together; it'd be fantastic to see this trailer made into a full film, if only to see the Squirrel Lantern kick some ass. :lol

That's a well-made fan trailer, it's a shame it's for the Green Lantern, possibly the dullest of all superheroes! :shakefist

Hey, now, GL's awesome. Most powerful character EVER in comics. Heh, Hal even reset the entire universe, for crying out loud. =P
Sadly, I can't see this trailer right now because I'm at work, but I'm gonna check it out once I get home. And if it's got Ch'p in it, I'm sure I'm gonna smile.

I have to admit I don't know anything about the Green Lantern, besides the fact that he has an uber powerful ring... like some kind of spandex-clad Frodo Baggins.

Isn't he like a green version of Captain Planet, without the menthol skin condition?

So it's all over Twitter that Ryan Reynolds is going to be playing the Green Lantern

Ordinarily I'd be all "What the hell?" at this, but after having seen Smokin' Aces - where Ryan Reynolds doesn't actually play a wise-cracking jackass for a change - I dunno. I guess it could work. If they're lining up for a JLA movie, then having someone like Reynolds in the mix as the contrast to Batman and Superman is probably a good call. Mind you, I think having him as The Flash would probably have made more sense for that, given the characters; shame that movie never took off.
I've done some background reading about GL though; wouldn't he make more sense as one of the non-Hal Jordan Lanterns? Guy Gardner or Kyle Rayner or something?

^ At least they're different companies?
Ryan Reynolds would be a brilliant Flash, honestly, because he can pull of the whole smart-ass wise-cracker thing so damn well. Any movie that sticks him in skin-tight outfits is :D IMO

What?!
Gaaaaah!
How is he thin and have pronounced cheekbones? I mean, all he has to do is crash, give Hal the ring, then DIE! Seriously, they could have used ANYONE for that role!

That said, I thought you guys might enjoy this, apparently it's the first official pic of him in costume:

This movie is going to suck. I was hoping it could be good, but... Ben Stiller hair, the Ion costume, and Kyle's ring, not to mention new criteria for who can be a GL, poor casting, and Parallax going to be in the film have officially killed it for me.
I now remember why I stopped buying Green Lantern years ago. It all turned to crap when they got rid of Hal.

Heh, long story short, I don't think the yellow rings and Sinestro Corps will appear until the sequel. Sinestro trained Hal.
And if anyone thinks that's a spoiler... too bad, it's been in the comics for ages. =P

I'm well aware of that. And I could have seen the subtle nod to future plot lines if Sinestro was in yellow.
I'm just at a loss to explain why Hammond is. It seems sorta... non sequitur, so wondered if he, as a character, had a particular connection with yellow, or Parallax, or anything like that.

Parallax is going to be more screwed up in this than even the black hole of suck that is Ron Marz was able to screw him up.

Im skeptical. I really thought Ryan would've been a better Deadpool than Green Lantern. Maybe he'll surprise a lot of people though.
This could be big...

An orgy of footage in the new trailer featured at Wondercon. I've never been a fan of the Green Lantern, and while there seems to be all kinds on offer in this trailer, I can't say I'm overly excited about it. Nevertheless, I'm sure fans will at least appreciate the sheer quantity of footage on display here. Presently, the CG suits look ass.

I agree that the suit doesn't convince, but the visuals overall are quite spectacular. I never followed GL though so most of it doesn't mean anything to me.

ARgh I want so badly to be excited for this but it's just so damn CG heavy. You're doing CG wrong when it actively takes away from the performance or experience on screen rather then enhance it.
It's so distracting.
Taking bets that this animated movie will be better then the live action.

It's an origin film. They did a good job. Think Spider-Man/X-men vein.

Enjoyable story, some fun moments, and some nice nods to the fans. Some good dialogue too: Reynolds got to be a bit badass and a bit smartass... but he seemed a little more grown-up than some of his earlier roles. He came across as very human, which given the story seemed to really work as a portrayal of Hal.
I liked the way the Guardians were portrayed; Sinestro, Kilowog, and Tomar Re seemed to work too, based on my limited GL exposure. I liked the way the energy constructs were depicted too: it was almost like the ring projected holograms - none of the "everything is joined to the ring by a green string" deal that you got in the cartoons. Some of the usages really fit with the "anything is posible" vibe they were going for.
The CGI aliens and environs were fantastic. The suit seemed a little off to me. It wasn't the suit itself: it was the edges (or rather, the fact that there weren't any). IMO, it would have looked a bit less unnatural if the transition from collar to neck and from mask to face wasn't so smooth.
Note: There is a bonus scene. It isn't at the end of the credits like a Marvel movie: it's about five minutes in. Worth the wait, as it seems to set up the premise for Green Lantern 2.

25% on Rotten Tomatoes: Noisy, overproduced, and thinly written, Green Lantern squanders an impressive budget and decades of comics mythology.
Ouch. Yeah... I really have no inclination to see this. I suppose it doesn't help that I don't have any experience reading Green Lantern in the past, but even the audience reviews on RT - which give it a score of 65% - are by and large saying "It's not as bad as people say, but it's not exactly good either." :lol

I will wait for it on DVD. I have been wary of this film for a while too bad it didn't live up to its potential.

Thanks to Netflix I just saw Green Lantern: Emerald Knights with Fillion voicing Hal Jordan. It's actually not very Hal centric. It's really several GL stories tied together. Bottom line, it's actually better than the Reynolds film. I wish I'd waited like you did Carr.
