Total popcorn but I'm there.
I keep wondering if GM will even be in existence to reap the rewards of being in the films.

Slam dunk visual effect achievment of the year?
I anticipate it will be #1 on box office this year. Looks like great fun.

The thought of Meagan Fox trying to act makes my head explode. Shut up and just look sexy.
Oooooh look explosions! Robots batign the shit out of each other! If the have the same length movie as the last one except have more robots this'll rule something fierce. And hopefully make the fanboys cry again :D

I completely geek out over Transformers. So I will be there opening weekend. As long as we have plenty of robots turning into vehicles and vice versa and blowing things up, I will be very very happy. :D

Even my dad liked the first movie "Oooh big explosion" so I'm game for big dumb fun too.

I saw this last night and it was exactly what I was expecting. Funny, lots of action though I would have liked a little more Optimus Prime action the fight between him and the Fallen seemed to last all of 30 seconds after he'd gotten those 'upgrades'
Oh, also! The score by Steve Jablonsky is pretty sweeeet once again. Love that guys music.

I grew up with the series as a kid, so I have an natural disposition to enjoy these movies. Despite its flaws I really liked the first one.
This one....I liked...but not without quite a few reservations. Mudflap and Skids was the glaring example - especially since they never shut up. Their were a few too many action sequences, and then when you get to the penultimate fight, it was over in about 45 seconds. They coulda dropped a minute or two from nearly every other action sequence in the film and either added more to the last fight - or just jettison all those added up minutes altogether. Also didn't care for alot of the music.
Positive side? It was robots kicking each others ass. Took me back to my inner child. Also, they worked in a lot of characters and story arcs from the series(Jetfire showing up was awesome) that brought a smile to my face. And Optimus has never been better.
Not as good as the first, but still fun.

Just got back from seeing it, and yes, it isn't as good as the first one. And it's a little too long. And it's way too loud, even for a Michael Bay movie.
BUT...
I loved it! It was pretty much exactly what I was expecting. Loud, colorful, silly, lots of pew pew and explosions, awesome special effects, and with the occasional line of dialogue worked in that only occasionally made sense :lol. Both critics and regular folk sometimes bemoan movies like this, but there's nothing wrong with this. Escapism is a great thing. You don't go to a movie like Transformers 2 to see great art...you go to be entertained. And overall, it succeeds! :thumbup

Eh... I really didn't like. Lack of geographical sense made my head hurt
However, I love the special effects and how the re-did Ravage and Shockwave. Yay for Megtron and Starscream dialogue. The matrix was cool how they did that.

I thought Optimus Prime fighting the Fallen at the end was the perfect amount of time. Optimus was super-powered and should have handled the Fallen with ease, and he did. The only thing I wish was longer though, was the fight in the forest. That was the best scene in the movie.

^^I believe that scene IS longer in IMAX. :D Which I saw it in. And it was AWESOME.
I loved the movie. :D

The Fallen was supposed to be very powerfull though, in theory much more powerful than Megatron. In the 1st movie Megatron pretty much handled Optimus so the leap made in this one seemed a bit much. I would have prefered a much more back and forth battle and not destroying the pyramid machine so quickly.
The only other beef was the US Army stealing the Autobots thunder at the end of the movie. We never saw Ironhide, Sideswipe, etc take out any decepticons at the end but the Army shows up and they mow down the entire Decepticon force in about 3 minutes of screen time.
Other than that it was highly enjoyable, somehow going in I knew Optimus was going to have to bite it and then come back at the end to save the day. We tried for Imax but it was sold out :(

Jetfire helped Optimus kick butt by giving him his parts. So that's the difference maker, imo.
Oh, speaking of Jetfire I absolutely loved him.

I turned my brain off and enjoyed the big robot fighting and explosions. Hooray!
Yeah and if it stayed that, it would have ruled.
But nooooooo there was this pathetic attempt at involving humans and bad actors that remind you just how utterly godawful this piece of shit really is. All we wanted was more robots and more explosions and those parts are really awsome. But nooooo Bay seems to think there should have been something more - nothing saves this decrepit shitfest when it for a second it attempts "story" or "acting" or pretends to have a fucking plot. So basically, fuck you Bay for ruining explosions and robots. How the hell was that possible, I have no idea, but you actually managed to do it.
Get the message you idiot. Robots. Explosions. Leave the rest of the other crap alone because you simply dont have a goddamn clue how to ddo that and those bits - which there was FAR too much of was fantasically BAD.
Pathetic. Just pathetic. But just to prove I aint all sour, Frost | Nixon was spectaclarly good.

I hated the first one and have no intention of seeing the sequel but I just want to expand upon something Mark said here as it conversely relates to my feelings on the franchise.
The first film was robots and explosions, that's it, and if you think that's enough of a premise upon which to blow millions and millions of dollars then fine. Those of you with that mentality probably enjoyed it lots and lots and that is fine. Personally, I find it a disgrace that so much money can be poured into something so vacuous, and I was completely bored throughout the first film because I didn't give a crap about anything unfolding before me. The story doesn't have to be profound or Oscar-worthy, just fun, stimulating, and entertaining without insulting my intelligence. Think Iron Man. Transformers was no Iron Man.
Anyway, my point is that I think with some quality plot, the first film, and presumably the second, would've been worth the gargantuan wads of cash thrown at it(by both the studio and consumers alike) and I'm sure I'd have found it thoroughly entertaining.
I've read a couple of reviews and a lot of them are slating Bay for having a couple of robots who speak like they're from the ghetto, have gold teeth, etc. and are basically stereotypical ghetto black men except they're portrayed as clumsy bumbling idiots. Many are accusing those responsible of bigotry and while I have no opinion of my own to throw in here, I was wondering what those of you who have seen the film think of this. Is there some foul play afoot or is this another classic case of the media trying to be far too politically correct?

I have really mixed feelings on Mudflaps and Skids. For me, it was a combination of both things. Not really foul play, so to speak, but maybe someone just not stopping and thinking first before committing to it. And then there is the element of political correctness, I think some people are just overreacting. They're being compared to, and in some cases being called worse than, Jar-Jar. And in the case of Jar-Jar, I felt that was political correctness run amok. Jar-Jar's biggest offense as far as I was concerned was that he was simply too broad and not funny or interesting at all.
Mudflaps and Skids did get some laughs from the audience we saw it with. and I did find it amusing when we first saw them as the clunky old-fashioned ice cream truck. But as for the rest of their stuff...overall, the movie would probably have been better off without them.
And as for your other comments...I understand completely what you're saying. You do make a very good and valid point about so much money being poured into movies like this, and yes, as much as I loved the first one, it's definitely a notch below Iron Man. And yes, the second one could have been much better. It's hard to believe that some of the same people involved in writing Star Trek were involved in writing this. But that's just the nature of a lot of summer movies, for better or worse. And I don't think it's going to change anytime soon, when box office receipts keep rolling in. And I did enjoy the movie quite a bit, although there is definitely a part of my brain that knew it was the equivalent of a triple scoop fudge and marshmallow-covered ice cream sundae with sprinkles on top.
Saw this cartoon this morning and couldn't help but laugh at it, because it's true!

Those two robots were annoying as hell. I found them offensive.
As far as the fighting and what not goes Mark - there were far more fight sequences and robots in the sequel - and LESS of coherent story. So, this shoulda been more up your alley. :p

Well, I went to and saw it at a theater in Hampton, late at night. (i.e. we were the only white people in the theater). The two robots in question drew a lot of laughs from the crowd. I found them to be annoying, but only slightly less annoying than the roommate. People felt the same way about Jazz in the first one. But, as stated in the film they learned so speak via the internet. First, we should be thankful they don't speak like porn stars, cause that's 90% of the internet. And after that, the next biggest thing is all the idiots on myspace who don't know how to spell, with links to their amateur rap videos.

I liked the attempt to bring some smaller Autobots into the mix. Yeah, they were a little annoying, but they didn't ruin the movie for me.

I laughed at Skids and Mudflaps. It did seem a little odd to me that they were so 'ghetto' - but I had forgotten that the Autobots had learned to speak through the internet. I guess it makes a little more sense with that in mind. About as much sense as Jetfire having a British accent, anyway.
