Touched.
You say that I am too.
So much of what you say is true..
I'll never find someone quite like you again..
Japrael System, planet Davora
Five years ago..
Davora. Tiny jewel of the Japrael system. A planet so small, most records had it listed as a mere moon, or satellite. Had it not been for the considerable wealth of the royal family, it may have been a civilization overlooked entirely.
The majority of the planet's surface was covered in oceans. Chains of volcanic tropical islands, and floating cities made up only a small percentage of the realm. The monarchy inhabited the largest of the isle's, housed in a palace which managed to charm most all who were privileged to visit. Whitewashed corridors lined on either side with sculpted pillars and statuary, led to rotunda rooms boasting recklessly expensive art. Potted plants of vibrant beauty, strolling minstrels and the natural turquoise sea scape made the royal residence itself a coveted commodity.
The Shadana family were also the keeper's of the true treasure of the planet. The rare Davoran black diamonds, birthed from their scarce and volatile, volcanic terrain. Diamonds, it was rumored, that if stolen would bring down a curse upon any who dared remove them them from their island without permission..
Sunset painted the tumultuous waves red, orange and lavender, all colors warring with each other, as they crashed upon the black sand beach that stretched out before the palace. One figure stood alone in the surf, heedless of the waves dampening the hem of her gown. Up to her ankles in the foamy tide, was King Raspian's seventeen year old daughter, Razielle..
The rest of the court had already gathered in what served as their 'ballroom'. A transparisteel platform atop a coral reef of so many vivid colors of aquatic flora and fauna that the rest of the alabaster palace paled in comparison. The attendants of the royal family were identified by the white, simple linens they wore. Everyone else of the Davoran court was draped in the traditional colors of black and turquoise.. Everyone except the princess who stood out in a glittering metallic gown of gray, one pale shoulder bared in the fading light. Her sable hair was pinned to the side, ornamented with a crimson bloom, and left to hang freely over the opposite shoulder. Her feet were curiously bare..
"There she is..", said Maude, one of the two woman charged with locating Her Highness and bringing her to her father's side.
The other, Elspeth clucked her tongue and shook her head. "She is always late when Himself throws a party. It's because one of these days someone is going to call that bluff of His, that if they can beat His daughter in combat they can have her, with His blessing."
"Tosh.. You don't believe that silly drivel, do you? That He would give away His baby girl to just anyone?", Maude asked in appalled disbelief, though it was the standing rumor...
"Not just anyone! Just the one who can knock Her Highness on her royal bottom. She's humiliated the last three 'suitors' that have tried, hasn't she? Along with the whole of the royal guard, and her last three instructors..", Elspeth nodded toward the Princess. "She's beautiful, but she is not normal."
"Hush! You'll get us sacked.. Let's just go get her. Your Highness!", Maude called softly, as they approached. "Your father requests you join the festivities, my lady."
Here we go again, Razielle thought..
Pulling her eyes reluctantly away from the tide, the princess turned, fixing a moody stare on the two women. "Of course..", she said, compliantly, though her eyes told the tale that it was the last thing she actually wanted to do..
Without further delay, she left the sea behind and approached the gathering of foreign dignitaries that her father was entertaining this evening. She'd heard that one of them had come from Onderon. At least she might hear some news of Princess Adraudia. With that in mind, Razielle went to face the debacle of the night.
