Okay, so, many of you know I work for JPMorgan Chase bank. Back in August, I was moved from San Diego, CA to Fort Worth, TX. Well, thanks to a lot of the mess going on in the home lending world, my department here is being shut down, meaning... I won't be working here anymore.

Thankfully, Chase is notably awesome about finding new employment within the company, and they've got one heck of a relocation package - which is about to come in REALLY handy because....

In two months I'll be in Kyoto. Yep. It was either that or Kuala Lampur, so, I chose to go with Japan. Goodbye Foreclosure department, hello Imaging and Document Retreival. For once docs will finally get imaged correctly! (There is no end to the frustration in improperly imaged docs when attorneys need them...)

I'll have two more weeks on the job, here, then the site is to be fully closed, and I'll get six weeks of paid time off in which to pack, fly to Japan, find a place to live (we've got killer assistance for that) and then have my stuff shipped to me.

This certainly wasn't the news I was expecting to come down from corperate, and I was first thinking I'd get moved to Cleveland or Jacksonville, but, at one point in time I expressed my ability to scan things, and that got noted in my file, so... Kyoto here I come!

Wow. That's a helluva trip.

No kidding! Thankfully, as cats are common pets in Japan, most apartments won't have a problem with me bringing my new kitten, but now I've got to worry about selling a bunch of my stuff, like my 61" TV, and a good majority of my large furniture.

While Chase will pay for all the moving, and my flight and some relocation money, there's no way I'm going to find an apartment big enough to hold all my crap, and sadly, Japan uses a different TV format than the US. Crap, this means I'm going to have to get a ton of power adapters for my computer stuff, too. Gah, unnexpected costs...

But at least I'm not getting laid off, and that's a darn good thing!

I think you'll be suprised at how many people fluently speak english over in the major cities in Japan. Ever since the U.S. occupation, english has been a mandatory second language to be learned in Japanese public schools.

I also hope you like seafood and anime/manga/video games, because the cities there are swamped with it.

Congrats. You might want to check on pet immigration policy. Some countries require you to put your pet in quarantine for like 6 months to a year. That's how we ended up with one of the cats we had when I was a kid. Family moved to Australia and didn't want to put their cat through that for 6 months or whatever it was.

Thankfully about two years ago that ruling was changed. Now, if you can prove your pet is up to date on all shots/other required items, you can get a "pet passport" which will allow you to bring the animal with you.

Crap, speaking of which, I need to get on the stick and make sure my passport is clear for Japan. Gah, so much to do...

Wow, this is kinda unusual but congrats. I'm sure it will turn into something great.

By the by, I've been meaning to ask you about a potential commission for Mongoose Ink. I don't suppose you do foxes?

Heh, foxes are actually something I draw a considerable amount of. You kind of have to, what with 40% of the furry populace being foxes or whatever. Drop me a PM. I don't know when I'm going to have time to get to drawing again, though. Packing and selling all my stuff is going to be a nightmare.

Haha, word. Good luck with all that.

And don't forget to put in a change of address with the rest of us. :)

Any PC made in the past 5 years will have an auto-switching power supply. You'll just need to get a power cable with a different plug for your 30" and the tower. Anything outside of a PC or monitor... welp.

Yeah, I figured that. Thankfully I can use my monitor as my TV, once I get a TV tuner card for Japan's format. That way I don't have to worry about buying a new TV. Though I'm sure going to miss my current big-screen.

Hmm, this probably means I can keep my XBox, but I'll have to import my games. I'll use a HDMI to DVI cable for the video, and then use optical audio out to my receiver and speakers. At least I'll have entertainment. =)

Australian quaratine law is vastly stricter than most other countries.

That's a hell of a move!

Any chance we might be able to have a few days and chill out before you ship out?

I'm sure we'll find some time. I mean, if you look at today's date, I've still got a while before I have to move.
