The best of the best. Everyone knows the best soft drinks come in green colored cans. Well, it's time to decide which one is the "best of the best".

Sweet sweet dew. I'm 32 days clean of the wonderful stuff!

I have never seen half of this stuff, let alone tasted it.
If anything, this topic confirms my belief that you colonials have way too many brands and flavours of... things.

Too many options! How am I supposed to get anything in life done if I have to spend half an hour sifting through this mountain of almost identical beverages, determining which is the most thirst-quenchy?

Sprite tastes like air.
Diet Sprite tastes like diet air.
Surge just tastes wrong. I can't place it, it's just a funky taste for me.
Sierra Mist is refreshing, but it has an odd aftertaste. Not unpleasant, just an odd bite.
Mountain Dew is waaaaay too sweet for me. It's like drinking syrup.
Diet Mountain Dew is only slightly less syrupy.
7up is much like Sprite, but it's also got a strange aftertaste that gives me tummy aches.
Seagrams Ginger Ale is one I've never had.
Canada Dry Ginger Ale I remember liking, but only ever had it when I was sick with colds.
You also forgot to put Vault on your list ;)
Tuscaloosa was in the test group area for Vault, so we had it a long time before everyone else did. I enjoyed it a bunch for the first few months, and it was helpful in keeping me going during nightshift. After a while though it joined the ranks of MD sweetness and I stopped drinking it.
Since the first of the year though I've pretty much cut off all soda drinking. Except for the rare Squirt here and there :)

Sprite in Tenerife for me! Mmmmm. Good times. And yeah, glass bottles just make it taste better.

Clearly I need to visit Tenerife, if you boys are getting such joy from the bottles there.

It must've been some subtle hint of a woman's curvaceous figure - those glass bottles must have stirred something within our loins.

Limca, in a glass bottle, made with real sugar. It's like sprite with a much better lime taste, made for people who have taste buds. For some reason India has some stupid good sodas.
I rarely drink soda, but it's really important that it come in a glass bottle if I do. It just doesn't taste right otherwise.

Plastic and cans both have a taste, glass doesn't.

Seagrams Ginger Ale, ftw.
Schweppes wasn't on the list. :p

The best ginger ale isn't in a green can. Then again, Buffalo Rock is better for removing rust from steel than for drinking.

My favourite soda isn't in a can, and isn't at all green.

Personally, root beer is my most fav soda. While my top green can would be M-Dew, the top glass bottle soda would be IBC Root Beer, followed by A&W Root Beer for can/plastic bottle form. Although Mug Root Beer tastes pretty good in plastic bottle form too.

IBC is miles beyond any of the other rootbeer brands. It's partially the glass bottle, but also an issue of just tasting better, instead of being sickly sweet.

As far as I know, I have never tasted root beer.
Is its taste comparable to anything else?
Charley
Mar 29th, 2009, 12:27:39 PM
I don't think it compares to anything, no. It's flavor is derived from the sassafras root, which is also used to make the spice File, which is used in creole and cajun cuisine. The essential oils in the root contain saffrole, which is a banned carcinogen, so modern file and modern root beer have a variation that has the saffrole removed. The flavor is a little more muted, but acacia bark is also used to increase the taste.
If anything, there's a vaguely fennel or licorice-esque taste to it, but again it's not really comparable at all. It's extremely tasty though, especially in a frosted mug with a soft scoop of bourbon vanilla ice cream on top!
