Yeah, so I kept hearing all this buzz about "Twitter" and "tweets". I figured I'd check it out. What happened? I am obsessed. Am I the only one who loves this place?

I mostly use it to follow the exciting lives of Stephen Fry and Eddie Izzard ^_^;
Oh, and the TwitchHiker (http://twitchhiker.com/) of course.

No, I am not interested in the minute thoughts of anyone especially the millions of worthless equivalent of "I JUST TOOK A POO!!! "that infect it. It's the biggest most currently worthless hyped turd on the Internet and should be flushed with /b/ and CP.

I'm guilty.
But again...use it to mostly stalk Stephen Fry, Will Wheaton, Ben Templesmith, and Neil Gaiman. lol

Stephen Fry's twitter is really interesting, actually. He seems to be constantly travelling around the world. Most recently I guess he has been doing some nature documentaries, because a lot of his pictures are of animals and pretty locations I can only dream of visiting.
Not that I would ever 'tweet' him, but it's a convinient sort of.. mini blog way of hearing about how much more exciting his life is than my own.

That is potentially the most close-minded, uneducated statement I've ever heard.
I'm on it, and use it to connect with a lot of people in my field, and fields that I have interest in eventually working in. I've made lots great of connections and learned FAR more than I would have learned on my own.
I've also been able to indulge in passions of mine and share that with others. Twitter has opened doors for me that just weren't there previously.
Of course, there is the "I just took a poo" stuff. That's why there's the "Block" and "Unfollow" buttons.

I tweet! I actually have a friend who mocks the "poopers" by being one herself. It is quite disgusting and quite hilarious.

I won't disagree that Twitter is being hyped far too much, but it's pretty clear that, like many other things on the internet, it fills a niche that is interesting to some people. Just like this message board fills a niche that is interesting to the people who post here.
I have not played with Twitter extensively, but I can understand it's appeal.

No it was not and I think I know a hell of a lot more about it than even heavy users - or more than I let on, maybe, just maybe like two dozen other fads I have accounts and explore - that's what is called my job. There's other tools a hell of a lot better - it's an enormous waste of space and it's on the "Kill at the firewall" list that I have.
I'll especailly laugh when the security flaws get really used as another malware vector. Which is why social networking sites typically join the firewall kill list, Facebook and Myspace especially. GREAT kill your PC vectors. And nice place to havest personal details you probably shouldnt reveal.
Not that there arent other ways, but those ways are gettign defended better and better all the time or you just simply disable if it's just not going to work (Got flashblock + adblock + scriptblock installed?)

Regardless of your own experiences with it, it's obvious some people have found it useful, so it's not a complete turd.

Guilty as charged!
Granted I don't tweet as much but it's a nice way to follow what some of my friends and other people of interest do.

This isn't something I've ever looke dinto. I vaguely remember Droo mentioning Stephen Fry's website to me, saying that he updates it a few times a day about his travels. It seemed like something fun and quite interesting to read, but I just never got round to it.
I may peruse at some point.

I think this is one way in which the medium of Twitter shows its strength, in allowing members of the public to essentially 'report' news events, providing images and snippets of commentary as stories unfold. Brings a new angle and dynamic to news coverage.

I was at a conference where we were showed how to use Twitter to increase Museum viewership. I thought that was interesting. I don't use it yet but I could see applications for it in a future job. Big problem I have is something is going to replace it by next year.

I broke down and got a twitter account mainly to see what the fuss was all about. I'm now finding it incredibly interesting and addicting. This does not hold with my expectations at all.

You simply do not feel the need to inform the world of every minute detail of your life. I like to use it to ask random questions and see what people's answers are... well, I did, but I haven't done that in a while.
