So simple poll cause I feel like it...

What is your drink of choice? I couldn't list everything so I've categorized them a bit.

Vote and then post your choice of beverage. Like type of wine, or brand of whatever....

Xi...dearest...where's my "All the above."?

:twak

That being said...I adore white wines...especially rieslings/guwertztraminers and the like.

BUT.... Me, Vodka, light rum, and such...oh yeah...we're good pals. <3

Oh...and Tequila. GOD YES....

It really all depends.

I usually drink wine these days because I cook with it a lot and its the best option for pairing with most food that's at least partially classical in preparation. I cook mostly with Pinot Grigio, and will usually match such dishes with the same, but some fuller bodied foods I go for a Merlot or a Malbec. We go through a good four bottles of wine a week in my house, if that says anything.

Beer is also good with certain foods, German and Mexican in particular demand it.

I really reserve liquor for rare occasions, as I don't usually drink for drinking's sake these days. If I do, I usually will snob on some whisky, but am pretty flexible.

I drink beer. Also liquor. Wine if it's free.

I might use this to point out that the Aust Cancer Council (a very well respected body in this field) has recently stated the safe level of alcohol consumption is one glass a day. There is a signifigant uptick in cancers relatign to alcohol cnsumption after this point :)

Which doesnt explain why I got so plastered on Monday night.

Half a litre of vodka.

Sick for two days -__

It's okay as long as it's good vodka.

Wine and Vodka. Not at the same time though, that'd be unwise. I thought this was multiple choice, and so my vote only went to light spirits, so I edited in a second one for the wine category.

I generally have a glass or two of wine every night.

a) No. Not good vodka.

b) Remeber how little I truly drink.

What kind was it? If you're going bad, I at least want to know your shame :D

And what is funny is that due to the very little I eat and drink these days, I had a pomegranatini of all things a few weeks ago that put me on my ass. One, as in less than two.

I have lost all semblance of alcohol tolerance and I think I like it that way!

Mostly beer, but I knock back enough dark spirits and liqueurs that I feel they should be mentioned. Really depends on how fast I want to get ripped and how much I don't mind being sick the next day. Shots are really bad for me as I have a drinking problem. Not specific to alcohol, but liquids in general as what I consider to be a sip is actually most people's healthy gulp. I drink way to fast for my system and I still feel thirsty even after drinking three glasses. I've been trying to get into the habit of sipping drinks and I'm improving since I've realized it's not a race all the time (I take part in a few chugging competitions.) I'm starting to appreciate taste a whole lot more now, which has really peaked my interest in wine and beer tasting.

I voted light spirits only because my fav drink is a g&t. However, the only things I won't drink are creamy stuff like Baileys or girly mixed drinks. It's gotta be straight or with tonic water.

I've drunk so much Crown over the years, and I still keep it around, that it's really hard to say I prefer other things over dark. Though, I really like a lot of things. Like, really, really, really like.

I used to not be able to really tolerate rum all that well, but now even that is doable. :p

Why couldn't this poll be multiple choice? Seriously...

Rossos Atrapes

Rum is right behind beer as my favourite alcohol. But even then, most beer is just disgusting; but rum isn't as 'chill' as beer is. Not suited for just sitting back and hanging out, really.

I voted dark spirits although I drink beer most of all, simply because I like it, it's cheaper and you get it in pints. My favourite tipple is probably Southern Comfort, although I love whiskey and brandy. However, when I'm feeling particularly fancy, a Manhattan makes me swoon! :o

Peter McCoy

Voted Dark. Whiskey-based drinks are niiice. Like Droo, my fave is Southern Comfort (he got me started on it). But I also like a few different whiskeys. A good few years ago I bought my dad a bottle of Macallan 10 year old single malt whiskey and it's goooood. I've only had 1 glass since he opened it a few years ago. He very rarely drinks it.

I vote wine, particularly rich and sweet flavoured reds because it is something I enjoy together with good food. For 'partaying' purpose, light spirits and cocktails is my preferred choice, but I do not shy away from hard liquor, like a whiskey on the rocks. I am not much of a drinker though to be honest. Moderation is good. Although, the ocassional getting drunk stupor can be fun, as long as it is not done too often. It's all about having fun with friends and having a good time.

Just because I'm bored, here are my favorites:

Wine - rosé, White Zinfandel
Light spirit - gin, Hendricks
Dark spirit - rum, Sailor Jerry's Spiced
Liquer - schnapps, Apple Sour
Beer - I don't do beer

Morgan Evanar

I drink nearly everything except rum.

Emelie Shadowstar
Mar 5th, 2009, 10:46:24 AM
Rum is really an odd thing for me...
Dark or spiced rums are just no. White rum is pretty much my love. I have an unhealthy obsession with mojitos lately (but only if I make them...and I tend to add in just a hint of x-rated fusion liqueur. Mmm pink drink).

Oh.
...

And white russians are simply sublime. But I only like them with like...cream. So they are totally horrible for me but taste like god in a glass. Though...might have to try Charley's vanilla soy milk thing, it has my interests piqued.

*eyes her coffee* ...okay now I wish I had stuff to toss in it. Damn this thread. :shakefist

Like Droo, my fave is Southern Comfort (he got me started on it).

That's gross you're gross.

My life's ambition is to meet you two blokes and to put some real bourbon whisky in your hands, to end this senseless charade.

Dasquian Belargic
Mar 5th, 2009, 10:58:36 AM
After alcopops, Southern Comfort was the first alcoholic drink I really tried and got into drinking regularly. That and Jack Daniels. Now I can't smell either of them without feeling my stomach turn :( Southern Comfort is just way too sickly sweet for my tastes now.

Also I hope neither of you order it as a 'SoCo' :shakefist

Charley
Mar 5th, 2009, 11:06:28 AM
Yeah they try to tart up and color over whatever grain alcohol they use as filler in that. The idea is that "if it's sweet and brown its like a bourbon" and that's ridiculous. Bourbon whisky derives its sugars from the sweet corn mash it's distilled from, and the color is coming from resting in the charred oak barrels. It's much less about that color and more about what the color means in terms of more subtle flavors that are interacting inside.

It's really the most insulting forgery of a bourbon ever made, and even a bad bourbon is going to taste much nicer.

Droo
Mar 5th, 2009, 11:42:12 AM
What a load of waffle. It's cool, guys. I wouldn't classify Southern Comfort as a bourbon anyway, it's just its own thing, and I like it in moderation. I could never drink it and drink it and drink it.

I forgot about the red wines. Spanish reds are my favourite, some really full bodied smokey flavours. Mmm. Oh, and I also forgot port, which I probably like more than whiskey although not quite as much as I like a Manhattan! I'm such a tart!

And no, I think me and Peter would sooner be caught dead than ordering a "SoCo". And for you White Russian drinkers, you ought to try a Russian Bride.

I'm not picky, I drink pretty much anything depending on the ocassion.

When it comes to wine, I'm more of a red type myself. I saw something about Spanish wines, you ought to try Sangre de Toro or Gran Sangre de Toro then, delicious full bodied red.

I like Tequila, particularly Don Julio or Corralejo.

When it comes to whiskey, I rather enjoy Johnny Walker or Bushmill's.

I used to drink a lot of Vodka, not so much anymore. I'm more of a brandy guy nowadays, particularly Terry or Torres 10.

If nothing else, I enjoy beer, particularly Kronenboerg 1664 or Corona (I prefer Sol, but I can't find it in Minny *shakes fist*)

Sanis Prent
Mar 5th, 2009, 09:52:56 PM
Kronenboerg 1664

Really? I haven't had it in a while, but the last time I did, it seemed a little soapy tasting.

Lykaios

Yeah, but not here in the US, very few places that have it on tab have the same flavor than in the UK, even the bottled version. The one pub I liked that had it and tasted pretty close to the real one stopped carrying it cause it was such a hassle to import it.

But yeah, whenever I go across the pond to visit my sister, that's pretty much what I live on

Now see, you've gone and made me think about this. I went with the 'beer' option. Most of the time I am in a hurry and grabbing some type of beer that I know I like (something dark preferably, I have Guinness in the 'fridge at the moment)) is much easier than making a trip to the wine section, that requires more thought on my part.

If I'm going to get wine it will either be something rose, or sangria like. Right now Beringer's white merlot is my favorite.

Other than that! Bailey's, Amaretto, or Coconut Rum please! :D

I voted 'other' for mixed drinks. Really you can put just about any type of alcohol in a mixed fruity flavoured drink, and I'll still drink it.

Second place would be wine. There is a vineyard winery in Plant City, about fifteen miles west of my house, that makes a kick butt semi-dry blueberry wine, and their wet mango wine is good as well. I also like Sangria.

Charley

I'm skeptical, but then again there's stuff that's pretty market saturated like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, so I guess a "white" merlot wouldn't be the most bizarre thing I've seen.

Although that link looks like its some sort of weird blush done with merlot grapes. I'm not sure how I feel about that, especially when it's got White Zin in the "If you like this, you'll also like" section.

Christin's sister has famously commented on White Zin, and hilariously insulted my mom and sister in the process :lol

I think the nuttiest thing I've seen is the non-alcoholic wine my dad brought us when he visited for christmas.

Charley

Hey, I gave it the ol' college try. Figured since you cook wine down to remove the alcohol anyway, it would work just fine to use the clean stuff.

Oh well, it was a good attempt.

Also, we should send your sis some Tiefenbrunner just to put her silly notion about screw-cap wines to bed for good.

It's richer and redder than a Zin, maybe a little sweeter. Definitely has more body to it, but no it's not 'white'.
