(NOTE: before anyone asks - no, this has nothing to do with the 1930s James Cagney film :p)

Plot synopsis from IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1152836/):

In the action-thriller Public Enemies, acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy AwardŽ winner Marion Cotillard in the incredible and true story of legendary Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger (Depp)the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoovers fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. No one could stop Dillinger. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyonefrom his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger's ganglater including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham)thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw's capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One. Hoover sent in Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI". However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) who were real gunfighters and orchestrating epic betrayals from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nittiwere Purvis and the FBI able to close in on Dillinger.
Johnny Depp is to star as Dillinger, with Bale playing FBI Agent Melvin Purvis who is trying to apprehend him.

I had never even heard of this film until a sneak-peak was shown at the Oscars last week (though I have now just noticed that Jedi Master Carr had it down as one of his 'most anticipated' films this year). And now a trailer has been released:

Thoughts or comments? I have yet to download the trailer myself, but the sheer thought of Depp AND Bale together reeks awesomeness (see image attachments). :)

A good portion of this movie was filmed in Milwaukee (my hometown), so I remember reading about this a while ago, since the local news made a fairly big deal about it. It sounds (and looks) like it has potential.

It looks great I think. I think the trailer could have been edited better but the footage looks awesome. Still one of my most anticipated movies.

And now the name of the band The Dillinger Escape Plan suddenly makes sense to me!

The movie looks... alright. Depp and Bale always give great performances though so I'm sure it'll be an enjoyable watch.

I just saw it tonight, and really enjoyed it. I thought Depp and Bale were both great in their parts. The gun fights were really intense and made the movie. Overall one of Mann's better films.

I've wanted to see this movie more than anything ever since I first heard they were making it. I still do.
