This is for discussing Battlestar Galactica without fear of any spoilers - all plot details, no matter how old, should be tagged.

THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO PURPOSELY POST SPOILERS IN - but IF YOU HAVE TO, TAG THEM! :shakefist

List the episode number you're discussing so people know if they can read it or not. :D

CURRENT SEASON DISCUSSION SHOULD TAKE PLACE IN THE OTHER THREAD!!!!!

Please do not include joke spoilers, like So and So is a cylon lolz because that's just confusing. :)

In the last few weeks I've shot through the miniseries, season one, season two, the webisodes and the first three episodes of season three. Tonight I'll watch it from Exodus Part 2 onwards and since I don't intend to go to bed tonight, who knows where I'll stop?

I will say this, I started watching Battlestar Galactica after hearing good things about it, I consulted with Holly and Jen and they couldn't praise it enough. Now neither can I. It is, without doubt, the best piece of television I've ever seen. And yes, this includes Band of Brothers, and it is no way a slight to that miniseries, it's simply a case of BSG being flawless in such quantity.

Perhaps I'm getting caught up in the current excitement of watching the show but I'm fairly sure it's not that, I can say with a straight face and without doubt all those things I said above, and I believe I'm right. There is quality you cannot deny, quality that isn't subject to opinion. For example, I hate Ridley Scott's Gladiator with a passion, whereas the rest of the world is convinced it's some masterpiece, however I can say this, the production, cinematography and score are all excellent. That is quality I cannot deny and in the same way, even if Battlestar Galactica isn't your cup of tea(although frankly, why all encompasing excellence wouldn't be anyone's cup of tea is beyond me), you would be giving a bare-faced lie to deny it's unparalleled quality. So there!

Thank you, Holly and Jen. :)

^^ So, how was it living under a rock for all these years? :p Seriously, how on earth are there still people who have not watched BSG, with all the buzz and rave reviews these series got?

Anyway, if you missed out BSG, I figure you might have missed out on Heroes as well. While Heroes lost the momentum during the third season, the first two seasons were even better than BSG, IMO. That is another possible marathon for you.

Btw, can you believe there are only a few episodes to go of BSG? Oh, well, guess the show will end on a high note compared to most other series.

When I found out there were going to be only four series to BSG, my interest piqued, and for two reasons. First of all, I knew that if I started watching it when I did, then I'd be able to watch it all from start to finish without pause, considering there only a handful of episodes left. Secondly, it also proves that the writers, producers, et. al were all dedicated to giving the viewers a show of real quality, they knew when the story had to end and would end it right, not pad it out with two or three seasons' worth of filler episodes. Every episode of BSG we get is essential to the progression of the plot.

As for Heroes, I've watched the first few episodes and quickly lost interest. Frankly, I found it a bit bland.

I completely agree with this. It tells a lot about the artistic integrity of the producers of the show.

Yeah, well, I can actually see why you would think that. The first 3 episodes or so were pretty average (bland is a good word actually), but that series just snowballed and got bigger in plot by every episode, until there were so many plot twists and revelations per episode, your brain is in danger of exploding. It starts picking up at episode 5-6 if I remember correctly. I strongly encourage you to watch at least the full season 1 before calling the final judgement on that one.

Now, back to BSG and the actual topic at hand, for those of you up to date with episodes in season 4 (4x17), now something spoilerish I gotta ask. What is meant by Starbuck being the 'Harbinger of Death'. And do anyone here have any theories how Starbuck's body could have been in that viper wreck, with that necklace, and how she was drawn to the 13th colony, having memories etc. I mean, the only explaination that made sense to me, she must also be a cylon of some sort, but there were only 13 models made. That scene were Starbuck and the cylons were glowing around the hospital bed was also interesting. What gives? What is her role in all this?. Any ideas?

4x17 "Someone to Watch Over Me" Starbuck is at least part Cylon, I think. How else would she know 'All Along the Watchtower'? I think like Hera she may be half-Cylon, i.e. her father was Daniel, the lost seventh Cylon. That's the only explanation I can think of. :cyduck

How she is the Harbinger of Death.. I have no idea. The Battlestar wiki makes reference to an interesting point that 'apocalypse' actually means revelation, that Kara could be leading everyone to some divine discovery. I guess we will find out soon!

As for why it took me so long to watch BSG... I don't know, but it was pretty sweet starting when the series was already into its fourth season because, like Droo said, it meant I could just marathon my way through it. Now, having to wait another week to see the next episode is awful! :lol

Heroes.. I lost interest in a while ago.

Oh if you're discussing the current 'season' you should probably take it to the current thread, that way you can do away with spoiler tags. *shoos them out*

Heroes Season 1 was awesome, though it built up momentum as time went on, like Yog said. After that its slowly lost its way.

I would not compare it to BSG at all. Maybe to LOST, or other, serialized story dramas. LOST is better though. ^_^; Heroes had so much potential and then the writers got changed or the producers got crazy, or I don't know what happened, but it seems like they lost track of what they were doing and are just trying to 'appease the audience' and by doing so they're making the audience leave in droves.

BSG is a great example of writers sticking to their vision.

I listened to the Season 3 soundtrack for the first time today and had a :eek moment when I noticed that (Season 3 finale spoiler) the track 'A Distant Sadness' (from 3x01 Occupation) begins with the riff of 'All Along the Watchtower' It's so awesome how everything ties together in this show, everything is connected somehow...

I'm about to get in bed to start watching the final disc of Season 2 (courtesy of Droo). I'm so excited, I'm annoyed that I;m tired and will probably only manage one episode tonight (this morning really!). And when I get up I'm off to town to purchase Left 4 Dead. These forums are so full of good ideas, I don't know why I don't register!?

...oh, wait... O_o

So far the highlight of the show thus-far for me was Adama ordering the marine strike team within a heartbeat of hearing that Helo and the Chief were to be executed.. He's just so badass! I sat up in bed and had to do a good-ol' fist pump (oo-er! :o ) accompanied by the typically scouse "Go 'ead!"

*raises hand* Hi...my name is Sarah...and I apparently lived under a rock.

So the hype over the series ending and having everyone continually go "OMFGITISAWESOME!!" at me for several years now finally has resulted in me watching it.

I just got through the mini series and ep 1 of season 1... (ha ha...*lame*) but the way I'm going I'll probably be watching an episode or two a night here for a while. lol.

Completely enjoying it so far. Thank you to those who kept going "WATCH IT YOU IDIOT!" :p

I, too, live under a rock as I have not watched a thing of BSG.

Howeever, I keep hearing all this wonderfulness about it, and my interest has always been there, just have not gotten around to watching it.

So, I went out and bought season 1 on DVD today to giver it a whirl. Haven't popped it in yet, but I will.

Well, I finally bit the bullet - I went out and hired Seasons 1 & 2 of BSG last week, plus borrowed Season 3 off a mate. I finally finished the last episode of Season 3 last night. :)

Unfortunately I didn't realise there was a miniseries that kick started it off so for the first couple of episodes I was left a bit adrift trying to get the grips on who everyone was and what was going on (like the fact that Boomer was a Cylon) but I got settled in eventually.

It's a fantastic series :eee. I think though my favourite bits are always the ones involving the Galactica in space itself - the plot arcs that take place either on planetary surfaces (Cylon-occupied Caprica, New Caprica etc) or with the Cylons (mostly in Season 3) are a little bit less interesting. I think for this reason I reckon I probably enjoyed Season 1 plus a good chunk of Season 2 the most - Season 3 with the occupation and then spending a lot of time with Baltar and the Cylons kind of dragged for me - plus a lot of the religious/philosphical babble involving Xena ... err I mean Number 3 :p struck me as just plain weird.

As I said, I just finished watching the Season 3 finale - caught by 5 basestars in the nebula, plus Starbuck's back in the land of the living - surprise surprise ;) - and she's found EARTH! (cue shot of North America). I found this season ending probably the weakest (but still good mind you) of the 3 - just doesn't quite get you like Season 1's ending (Boomer's Cylon programming kicking in and shooting Adama) or Season 2's (the Cylon's finding New Caprica and the fleet being forced to jump and abandoning the human populace on New Caprica).

Unfortunately now I'll have to wait for Season 4 to come out on DVD down here. :(

EDIT: finally got to see the mini-series (now released as a movie) - good stuff, and explained a lot of things. :) Now I want to go back and rewatch the 1st season again (or at least the earlier episodes where I was confused about what was going on >_<).

Not sure if everyone else has already seen this, but found this lengthy (and amusing :lol) recap of BSG (to the end of Season 3) on YouTube:

The narration is perfect. :) Love some of the comments:

"Commander Adama is commanding, Colonel Tigh is drunk"
"Good Boomer/Bad Boomer"
"Starbuck is captured, but she escapes because she kicks ass"
"What the frak?" x 20

I am just so disappointed and PISSED right now...I swear I was so careful setting up my DVD player to record the final episode. I swear I double checked and triple checked to make sure it was right. I swear it was set to run for 2 hours and 15 minutes. And the damn thing shut off after 1 hour. I was all into it, loving every second I had seen so far, then ****ZAP****. Off it went, no more, end of recording.

:shakefist

A double pox on SciFi and Hulu for apparently not planning on posting the episode online until next weekend. I just don't get it. I really don't. I could get both parts at iTunes, but I'd have to pay, and although I'm thoroughly pissed and just about beside myself right now, I don't want to have to pay for it.

According to SciFi's online schedule, it looks like they're rerunning the episode on Friday at 7pm. I'll just have to wait until then to watch the full episode.

And in the meantime, I'll just have to tell my friends at work who watch the show to STFU until I've seen it all.

:cry :shakefist :x :shootin

Actually, I've caved, I found a great quality bittorrent and will have the finale downloaded in twenty minutes. I'll watch it tonight.

The truth is, I watched the last episode after recording it onto my V+ box and the breaks were annoying as hell: every fifteen minutes I had Iggy Pop selling car insurance... This show deserves better!

I second that emotion...thanks to On Demand, I saw the episode with no problem. I spoke to a couple of co-workers today who are also big fans of the show, and we all agreed. This was one of the best series finales EVER, and we couldn't have asked for anything different or anything more. It was simply perfect.
