That particular spot in the series was taken while driving through the Sierra Nevada Mountains, in the Lake Tahoe area. Down highway 88, then hit the junction to highway 89, and finally you come out on the southern tip of Lake Tahoe at highway 50.

I'll start putting all the pics together for a thread of their own if anyone is interested.

I took a trip to a local castle - Trifels. It's the castle where the english king Richard the Lionheart was kept captive for a while. I took lots of pictures - the whole gallery can be found here (http://www.nyahalcyon.net/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=51), but here are some pictures:

It stands on top of a large rock, about 500m above sea level.

The castle dates back to 1041, when it was first mentioned in the king's annals. It then belonged to the Salier kings, but was given to the Staufer kings (Friedrich I. Barbarossa - the Redbeard, and his heirs). The Empire's crown jewels were kept there for a long time, before the castle fell into disuse over the centuries and was mainly used as defensive position for local warlords.

In 1607 it was struck by lightning, and burnt out, leaving nothing but the bare rock and stone. The region it lies in fell into the hands of the Bavarian king in the 1800's, and they were the first ones who harbored ideas about rebuilding it. But that didn't happen until 1938, during the height of the Nazi regime, so what is standing now isn't actually an authentic reconstruction of the old castle, but something of an idealised version based on the kind of architectonic plans the Nazis came up with.

The castle is made up of a main tower and the "palace" and various smaller buildings, of which only two remain standing. There is a stone outcropping from where this picture was taken, and there used to be buildings standing on there, too.

The first floor of the castle was actually built inside the rock, and what we see as walls are just additional sandstone cubes built around the natural rock, to give it a smooth surface.

This one's not so sharp, unfortunately, but still - the ground floor has three chambers, but it's unknown what they were used for - possibly as kitchens and stables, even.

There are an unusual number of staircases going up from these, 5 of which were built into the walls, and one of which was cut into the natural rock.

The main hall inside the "palace". It's a giant hall, looking very much like that "germanic" ideal of the Nazis... it's a wonder no one's discovered it as the ideal set for some movie.... then again, they'd have to lug all the equipment up on foot or have it dropped down from a helicopter, because there's no way to get up there by car, or land on it.

This year my dad and I decided that I should plant our fence area with herbs, so on the last picture you can see the fence as it is after I planted. I can't wait to see what it will look like when it's all in bloom.... there are about 25 different herbs and medicinal plants in there now. The fence is a lot longer - it didn't all fit onto the picture.

What kind of set up are you running under the hood? Suspension?

It's STI powered so the 2 litre with a VF35, unfortunalty with a restrictor for the class. Fairly standard motorwise which isnt too bad because the STI internals are forged and can take a big rev. 3" turbo back, Autronic ECU, I have the antilag turned off because it makes the car a bitch to drive.

Has DMS suspension right now, tho I want to move to Proflex / Ohlins. Done quit e a bit of work tuning the suspension and also removed the front sway bar for better turnin and grip. Also looking to graft on a smaller rear sway bar so I can run a touch harder rear spring.

I can get a few more hp with some dyno time, plus also looking to get a plated rear diff so it hangs the back end better, hydralic handbrake etc.

Until this weekend I havent really felt at home in the car, but with the latest changes OOOOH YEAH more fun than should be legal

It's name is Boofy and he's no girl :D That would be the red WRX, she's called Natalie and she's a lesbian.

Certainly growls, flameouts and snarls like a proper STI should - it's also tuned so it can use a BOV properly and doesnt need to recirc. So you get that WHOOSH as the BOV opens and dumps every gear :D - springs are fairly light. 220lb front, 180 rear, they are too light in reality but they do improve grip. The standard DMS springs are 240 front, 210 rear.

Nothing like a snarling boxer engine hauling hard.

Hanalei Bay - one of the best places to just chill out. Crowded during the day with tourists and residents alike, by midafternoon it's usually just the surfers about and come evening it's a local spot, for bonfires and music and beers on the pier (as in the case of our good buddy Joe.)

So we spent today going to a local carnival procession (like we do every year)... I'd planned to go as the usual (witches) but since half of my costume is still at school and I didn't want to drive through this damned snow just to get it, I had to get a bit creative....

It wasn't just cake....It was:

Snack cakes (Joe Louis') on top, so it would be round like a cupcake

Brownie with chocolate chips

Chocolate bundt cake, with strawberry filling inside the cake and caramel whipped cream in the middle (hole) part of the cake.

With peanut butter m&ms in it middle too. And chocolate whipped cream on top and regular icing on the bottom.


I've only eaten two "small" slices of it. It's so good but it's so rich and sweet it makes my teeth hurt >_< My mum went way over board, lol!

My grandmother has this beautiful Appaloosa mare. She's also bugfuck insane and if she hasn't been ridden in a while (every damn day) she becomes a cyclone. Anyway, what with her husband being ill and dying, Grandma hasn't been keeping up with her so she called me yesterday to see if I would check up on her horse while I was up with mine at the stables and I decided after watching her that we needed to reign her in right away so I saddled her up and then it was all downhill from there. Seriously, every single second was a fight.

I think this is from the second time she managed to throw me, when the paddock gate and I got intimate with one another.

I'm gonna give it a few days, rest up and get some energy, and then go back and try again. Otherwise I think we're going to need to workshop her again. :(

Yep. Gonna do some work there tomorrow maybe, if I feel up to it; otherwise I'll get one of the hands to.

The thing is when you're not riding her, she's the sweetest gal in the world. Her previous owners were abusive though and the minute you climb into the saddle it's like an entirely different animal. We ran her through a program with a specialist about six months back and it really helped to ease her anxiety; started to earn some trust from her but that seems shot now. All that progress down the drain. >_<

On the plus side, she really makes me appreciate my boy Rooi, even though he's a knucklehead. ^_^

Bleargh, I used to have a mare that was just like that.

Everyday riding is the key I found. That you've got hands to take care of her when you're not up to it is fantastic though - gives you time to heal and get your strength back up.

Don't give up on her :)
