My third and final poll for a while. Because of popular demand, I have decided to add a few options, and was going to make it pirates versus ninjas, part three, but decided to take it in a different direction instead. So vote for your favorite special forces time!

P.S.: Some of the choices are actually intelligence agencies that have special forces capability.

You would...

I still go with pirates! :dance

Then at least I'd have someone to drink with. Yep.

No VDV option, so I voted Spetsnaz. More Systema, but less choreographed fireball linedancing military jingo pop. Hard to choose...

Pffffft. You know what the answer here is. It's why everyone got scared when they handed me a gun.

If you put in SAS and the SEALs you should not forget SWAT,GIGN, GSG9 and KSK.

But since its voting for the best, why put in pointless ones to add to the already pointless ones in there?

/SAS

LOL LOL LOL

No way.

The others? Sure, especially GSG-9, but SWAT is kid's league.

I prefer the seperation of military and police special forces. This topic is meant for fun so I won't go into any details here: I will just say that mixing intelligence, police and military forces is a bad thing and NAZI Germany is the best example for that.

That's why I like SWAT. Those guys are not the trigger happy killing machines they are just better Cops. Whenever average Joe has lost his job, drank too much and now he is having average Jane at gunpoint, because she wants to leave with the baby, it is time for people from SWAT to deescalate this situation with professional negotiaters, force or in the worst case with lethal force.
They may not be so uber special but they are getting the job done every day and their enemy is our society and not the top terrorists.

I like simple things like pirates Argh :)

I've trained alongside SWAT members and had some unsavory experiences involving people in SWAT. Early when the program was beginning in the states it was probably a good idea, but in post 9-11 when even rural police forces can get discounted military surplus and create poorly trained and conditioned SWAT units, the quality of the moniker is questionable at best.

That isn't to say that all SWAT are poorly skilled, but because the program is utterly pervasive now, quality ranges from good, to pretty awful.

I'm certainly not fond of having a militarized police force at all.

In my school's CCF (Combined Cadet Force) one of the guys who ran it, Major Waters (cracking bloke, easy to talk to and always had time for you) was former SAS. He had a book of memoirs that they'd prevented him from publishing due to the details included being classified/prohibited.

The stories he used to tell us were brilliant. What a legend!
