I have a free trial guest pass thing for Team Fortress 2. If anyone wants it, just post your Steam username or email here :) If you don't have a Steam account, you will have to get one to play.

I've got (and adore) The Orange Box. But I've just not bothered with Team Fortress 2 yet. I don't even know why. It's not as if I dislike the look of it, I've just not been motivated (or excited enough) to play it, and I've had it for a while now. The main reason I got the Orange Box was for Half-Life 2: Episode 1, 2 and Portal. The Half-Life setting is one of my favourite sci-fi universes so I'm on pins and needles for Episode 3 and the conclusion of the current story arc after the huge ending of Episode 2!
I'll make a point of trying TF2 sometime this week.

I never got into TF... Had Orange Box on the 360 and I just found that it took way too long to load stuff, and when you'd been playing one of the new COD (Modern Warfare or World at War) it just doesn't compare.

Depends on your taste. While I really like CoD4 Modern Warfare, I think it pales in comparison to the Half Life series (including the original). I'm not talking about its entirety - CoD4 looks vastly superior in terms of graphics, undoubtedly. But as far as story goes, thats the main reason I play games and I adore Half Life's. Some people will no doubt prefer the realism of CoD4 but I really don't enjoy a realistic war-themed game as much as I enjoy a sci-fi-themed fight for freedom with these amazingly well-realised characters who really do carry weight.
Gordon Freeman is such a great character and he's never even come out with any cool one-liners. Or any lines for that matter. Not an ounce of dialogue from him and I think he's great. One of the best things about HL2 was how legendary the events of the first game were, and you (Gordon) were seen as this saviour because of it. Everyone knew you, even if you had no idea what was going on because you were thrust into this story.
I had this really cool idea where we'd get to see Gordon in-game right at the end somehow. I envisioned this really intense scene where someone smacks Gordon and he gets knocked down and his glasses fall off. Then as he stands back up and smacks the guy/monster/alien/enemy/whatever back, he then goes to pick up his glasses and as they move towards the camera as he puts them back on, when the lenses approach the screen you see him in the reflection with this really pissed off look as if to say "Yeah, I got you! This is for Eli! I think that'd be a really awesome and cool way to show just a hint of this great protagonist who we (I) have followed since 1998.
I don't consider it 'a game that everyones talking about' but I still think I'll be more excited over Episode 3 than over any game that'll be coming out for the next few years at least. I was really hyped up over MGS4 but that was nothing to what I'll be like when they finally release the next (last) installment in the current arc.
I know I'm off-topic but I just wanted to add that; how thoroughly engrossed I get when playing that game. Like my troops when I play C&C Generals, I really do care about the characters and I get really worked up when things go badly for the NPC's/other characters. That's a testament to how good the writing is in that game (or at least how good I think it is).
Anyway - yeah, Jenny. I'll check it out and if I'm into it I can camp you sometime. I hope it's like the classic version where engineers can build ammo-dispensers and turrets and stuff.

CoD4 was really excellent, probably the best multiplayer since Counter-Strike Beta 6. It's paced so well, and is so well balanced and designed.
I hope it's like the classic version where engineers can build ammo-dispensers and turrets and stuff. Yes.
I have played some TF2. I used to play a lot of TFC.

From a storyline bases I totally agree that the Half-Life storyline is better then CoD usually is.
But that seems to be due to the fact that the storylines in CoD are almost turning into training for the multiplayer. but the CoD multiplayer is far superior then any FPS I've played in multiplayer.

I'm not big on multiplayer games. Actually, re-phrase that. I'm not interested in competitive multiplayer games. I'm not bothered enough to be concerned when I get beat, hence no motivation to get better, hence being shite at them.
I was good at Counter-Strike, Medal of Honour, and Red Faction when I played them back in the day. Oh, Unreal Tournament as well. But nowadays I'm a real care-bear when it comes to stuff like that. I still love my FPS's like Bioshock and Half-Life and Halo. But I'm just not really into the online competitive side to it. Same with PvP in World of Warcraft. But I agree that when it's going okay CoD4 is great for that. Then I get fed up of being owned and move onto something else like Vampire Bloodlines.

"...and now he's here to fuck us!"
I just love how he talks exactly like the French waiter in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life :lol

The "Meet the..." videos are great, too great, as they convinced me to buy the bloody game from Steam last week. I can't say I'm a fan of it much, I should've known better, I can't stand the Half Life 2 engine when it comes to multiplayer FPS games. I'll play it a bit just to get my money's worth but I think I'll stick to COD4.
And now I'm bitter I wasted £14 instead of £7! :shakefist

I know what you mean, Droo - the videos do make the game seem a lot more fun than it can be in practice, especially when you have people shrieking about how inept every medic on the planet is.

The wit and colour and fun implied in those videos is simply not reflected in the gameplay, I find it far too hectic and rush-rush and I feel it lacks the pace and balance of Call of Duty 4. Saying that though, I am a COD man through and through, ever since the vanilla days.

I have yet to play COD. I must look out for when it's on some special offer on Steam, so I can try it out.
