View Full Version : What do you want more/less of at 'Fans?

Back in 2004 (before the reset!), Lilaena posted the following list of things 'Fans needed to be 'more Star Wars':

1. an emperor figure

2. the NR - shattered! You can't get more Star Wars than when you have a rebel army.

3. imperials united under the emperor... or perhaps only one faction.

4. Jedi Order - scattered? Logistically, it's hard to run a group when you've gotten all separated, so this I list under "most likely to never happen," right before "the NR - shattered!"

5. Black Sun as more of a group with more participation, possibly playing the imps and the rebels against each other.

6. sith - ah I don't know what to do with them.

;) coincidentally, i'm planning on setting LD up as a sort of 'emperor' figure, after she gets done with her battle with James, TSO and GJO she will delve so deeply into the Dark side to stay alive that she will begin manifesting it physically, like the Emperor did.

7. more Peter/Garrett Blade. I miss him RPing.

8. reluctant and unusal heros (luke skywalker in ANH? Han Solo?)

9. R2-D2...

And no, I'm not *really* serious about this list, it's more like a wish list.

Here in 2009, we have quite a lot of that stuff! Pat on the back y'all.

Buuuut... I was wondering, what do we want now? The same stuff, different stuff? And this applies to more than just the Star Wars setting. What do you think would make the roleplaying experience more enjoyable?

Quick one before I have to dash off to work:

I've been thinking about the Jedi a lot lately, and what would happen if and when they regroup because something tells me they won't be so eager to return to the old ways. Some may, of course, people like Serena. But I think it's time to allow the Jedi of the new generation to clash with tradition and those who uphold it. I always thought running the Jedi academy and the Jedi at large as a sort of military instead of a monastery would be fascinating and perhaps have characters clash over the direction in which they see their beloved ways disappearing. This is all tumbling out of me quickly like one big brain fart because I'm in a rush, I'll mull over it later and put it into better words.

It's been proposed just recently that the Jedi finally form an official group, which would be based on the Mon Calamari homeworld of Dac (because that is probably the safest place the Jedi could be right now). This would come about after the 'Gathering of the Alliance', as part of the Alliance working towards creating a more stable foundation for the Republic.

Exactly what this newly founded Jedi group would be like, however, I don't know! I do agree, though, that it would be very interesting to see disagreements about how the Jedi should be run. The founders of the group are going to be drawn from a variety of different backgrounds and training practices - some pre-Order 66, others trained far less formally in the wake of the Order's destruction - so it would be unrealistic to think that they could all agree on everything, definitely.

Secondly, I think it would be exciting to see a new threat take shape in the galaxy, one that shakes up the status quo and gives the major factions a kick in the pants. This of course depends on what the future of the Empire and the Republic will be with relation to each other but being honest, since the reset, I haven't found the conflict between them particularly interesting. I don't think it's nearly dynamic enough, at least from what I've seen, and I don't mean that as a slight against anyone's work here, it's just that perhaps I have different sensibilities when it comes to this thing.

I agree (again). It would be nice to see some threat to the galaxy that is larger, more urgent and more dangerous than the Empire/Rebellion. Something which affects pretty much everyone. I think we touched on this a little in the 'Progressing the Galactic Civil War' thread.

I wish everyone didn't hate the Vong so much :(

The Vong are terrible and honestly right now the status quo is pretty good.

Concerning the possibilities of differing opinions among the Jedi, that would work perfectly with s'Il trying to shove a wedge into the struggling group. I can certainly see her and Serena in heated discussion about what they think would be best for the Jedi.

That these disagreements would be about how they're run is great, as what Jenny said about backgrounds is a very good springboard for ruffled feathers to become more ruffled.

Well, what about the CIS? The Carshoulis Cluster is already starting to re-establish itself. The Cizerack are on their way to forming a compact with Hapes. With the Empire distracted, a few more middle-strength powers could join up, and they could start rebuilding some of their droid factories. If Onderon joins up, Kuklos Ataxia could take a formative role as the shadowy cabal behind everything - Salem could take a visible role like Dooku or a more secretive role like Sidious.

Rhianna could not agree with you more. :D

Rhianna knew that the Jedi teachings were important to Serena, and she was not disputing that fact. It just seemed to her that a replica of the past, a past that the will of the Force had seen taken down and scattered, was not going to be possible..

"..But we cannot be those Jedi from the past. We can only be who we are.."

So yes, this qualifies as what I want more of! More culturally driven Jedi with new flavors, and less by the book Jedi. :)

I'm doing what I can but a man can only write so fast.;) I think you're right though. This topic of something bigger and more dangerous effecting everyone was touched on in the 'Progressing the galactic Civil War' thread and we found several players who would fit the role soon enough.

Unless people are leaning toward a more Vong type scenario. Where a massive invasion force bent on (for the most part) destruction suddenly appears for everyone to worry about. I think something like this would only add a momentary flavor and would ultimately ruin the chemistry our universe has right now.

I do like this idea though. As it would be more tastefully done then a force bent on dominating everything.

Don't worry, Tear. I'm the only one here who actually likes the Vong, so they won't be appearing any time soon, I'm sure ;)

We did do a Vong RP 'in the future' back in the day. It was entertaining. :D

I think I missed that one.

I always thought it'd be neat to set the Yevetha up as a sort of yautja type species, since both have passing similarities. I even did a page of studies to see how they'd mesh. I'll have to find the scan for it when I get home.

Awesome!

I'm pro Vong as well. I think they should make an appearance, they are canon and I'm pretty damn sure Fans has matured to a point where it can be done properly.

Could also go the extreme opposite with a droid revolution a la IG-88.

I really just want to see more droid and alien characters before the Empire of Man takes over.

Yes, I mostly just want to see some inhuman invasion of some kind, whether that be Vong or some SHODAN/SkyNet style clusterfuck.

But not right now, obviously. Somewhere down the line.. somewhere.

I have no problem with doing that if people want an IMPLEMENT roleplay. I would need a few people for NPC work if that was something we wanted to do.

I'm still down for resurrecting IMPLEMENT or a flavor of, if folks want to.

You know who were also cool back in the day? The Ssi Ruuk. Way cooler than the Vong imho.

I don't know a lot about the Ssi Ruuk but from a glance over there Wookiepedia page, they seem pretty neat.

I haven't roleplayed in ages and I really have no clue where to start anymore.

IIRC IMPLEMENT was inspired by Shodan, right?

If so - go for it, insect.

Well the Ssi-Ruuk have been a pretty fun Big Bad lately.

Once we're well rid of them and the Dan story's done (OMG ITS NEARLY DONE) I'd entertain doing IMPLEMENT again if that fit folks fancy, sure.
