Though Battlestar Galactica is rapidly drawing to a close, fear not for soon we shall have:

Set on the fictional planet Caprica, approximately fifty to seventy years before the events depicted in the re-imagined series, Caprica is described as "television's first science fiction family saga."
Caprica shows the Twelve Colonies at peace and living in a society close to our own, when a startling breakthrough in robotics brings to life the age-old dream of marrying artificial intelligence with mechanical bodies. Joseph Adama – father of future Battlestar commander William Adama – a renowned civil liberties lawyer, becomes an opponent of the experiments undertaken by the Graystones, owners of the computer giant spearheading the development of these living robots: the Cylons.
"The Graystones include father Daniel, a computer genius; mother Amanda, a brilliant surgeon and unfaithful wife; and their daughter, Zoe, who is martyred to her boyfriend's religious fanaticism – but not before she installs the rudimentary elements of her personality and DNA into a machine, creating a digital twin of herself, Zoe-A. After the human Zoe's death, Daniel uses these raw materials, some stolen technology and his own grief to cobble together 'a robotic version of his dead daughter.' This robot version, known as Zoe-R, is a Cylonic Eve, the first of her kind."
According to Mark Stern, Sci-Fi Channel's Executive Vice President of Original Programming, the script for the two-hour pilot episode concluded with an explanation for how the name "Cylon" was coined. On September 20, 2007, Battlestar Galactica writer and producer Bradley Thompson revealed that Ron D. Moore's script for Caprica has a character coin the term, saying, "A cybernetic life-form node, a Cylon."

Just reading over all that, I was wondering (BSG spoilers)... if this "Daniel" relates in any way to the Daniel that was Number Seven, who we have heard Ellen Tigh and Sam Anders talking about. Or maybe the Cylon Daniel just got the same name as a mark of respect towards the first ever 'creator'

Wouldn't surprise me. We know that Cavill is named "John" after Ellen's father, and based on his appearence. Maybe #7 is based on / named for Mr Greystone, and he'll make a cameo in BSG as a lead in to Caprica?
I'm more interested to see how The "Cylon Eve" factors in. The most recent BSG episode establishes that the Cylons didn't know how to make humanoid Cylons - or rather, were struggling to achieve it. That assumes that, whatever Greystone's efforts, the necessary information for building an effective fake Human either died with Daniel and his research, or were never fully achieved.
It could be something as basic as the difference between something that looks human (but is made of synthetic materials) as opposed to something that functions like a real human - breathing, reproducing, etc.
I'm very much looking forward to it, though. It sounds very different to a lot of the sci-fi that has been around lately - just as Battlestar itself was. If they're as cutting edge with the new series as the old one was, I think we're in for a treat on "Sci-fi Fridays". :D

My feelings exactly. I'm really looking forward to it...I think it's going to be much different from BSG, but if it's the same caliber as BSG, then we're definitely in for a treat.

Here's an interesting snippet from Sci Fi interview with one of the cast members:
Stoltz told SCI FI Wire that he will play Daniel Graystone, a wealthy computer whiz who bears a resemblance to a mogul in our universe.
"A lot like Bill Gates, only richer," Stoltz said in an interview.
..."I would say there are two poles that fuel the drama, but I'd be hard pressed one is a good guy and one is a bad guy," Stoltz said. "What it has similar with Battlestar is that there's a gray area. No character is all good or all bad. We all have our gray areas that we live within. But it's interesting that way: You're not quite sure who you should or shouldn't be rooting for."
Unlike Battlestar, Caprica takes place in a world not unlike our own, Stoltz added. "I think Caprica taking place 51 years before Battlestar happens, it's very similar to our society now," he said. "There are no flying cars. There are no spaceships. We're on an Earth-like planet. We wear the same clothes. We have similar problems. Ideally, people will be able to watch Caprica and think, 'This is similar to what we're [doing], to what's happening in the States right now.'"

Caprica Promo Now Live
A promotional trailer for SCI FI Channel's upcoming prequel movie Caprica has gone live on SCIFI.COM. The trailer is the footage screened to the Television Critics Association press tour on July 20 and sets up the universe of the prequel to SCI FI Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica.
That trailer doesn't exactly grab me.. but I will reserve judgements until after I've seen the pilot this April.
Speaking of, you can already order the DVD through: http://www.nbcuniversalstore.com/detail.php?p=84148

So, the pilot has leaked, and here are my thoughts!
***
The pilot for Caprica was good. Better than I imagined it would be, based on the preview footage I had previously seen - but I don't think it was as good as the BSG mini, primarily because I didn't feel that immeadiate sense of attachment to the characters. BSG grabbed you from the outset and really made you empathise with and feel a part of the crew. So far, Caprica has not achieved this for me - and again, I am comparing just the pilot and the mini.
I do like the story though. Then again, I am a fan of most artificial intelligence related stuff - exploring what identity is, whether robots can become human, etc. I can see what was meant now by comments about the show dealing with current issues, particularly when it comes to the religious aspects and discussing the morality of the actions taken on behalf of the 'One True God'.
All in all, definitely worth watching - though I feel that perhaps some of the impact of certain scenes will be lost on those who have not watched BSG.
Also, was it just me or did anyone else hear some of the BSG soundtrack motifs making reapperances? I could swear I heard a bit of "The Final Five Theme/Heeding the Call/All Along the Watchtower" (whatever you want to call it) when Greystone and Adama were talking (I think at the pyramid stadium) about what Adama would do if he could see his daughter again.
Oh, and it was great to see Polly Walker as part of the cast. Viewers of Rome will know her as the wonderfully loathsome Atia of the Julii :D

I was actually totally blown away with the pilot. It felt more like a full scale movie production than a TV episode. The setting was down to earth, and it established what was going on rather than attempt to rush the story. I feared it would be some kind of a low budget soap sci fi with loose connections to BSG, but instead, it was all about the creation of the first cylons.
I also felt it was a rock solid cast. Zoe Graystone's story was fascinating. A 16 year old girl stuck inside a simulation program, then inside the body of a cylon centurian prototype, not to mention her father, Daniel Graystone's obsession to reincarnate her. Joseph Adama is also a strong character, and I liked to see Roslyn again.
Overshadowing all of this is the conflict between the tauron and caprica, which will probably lead to a full scale war where the capricans use the cylons to defeat them. Mankind has reached a dark a sinful state where people entertain themselves in virtual worlds killing people for fun, or having virtual sex, and teenagers become suicide bombers.
The visual effects production also needs some major kudos. Those CGI sequences of the household droids and the prototype cylons are even better than those in BSG.
And yes, there were several subtle reoccuring musical themes from BSG, with some creative changes. The soundtrack is as always setting the A-standard.
I look forward to the continuation with great anticipation.

Actually I'm not sure what stopped me from watching it before, other than not needing yet another series to follow, but .. oh well... never too late. Caprica certainly sounds intriguing.

I've avoided the spoilers about the pilot, especially since it was described as "leaked," but now it's available for purchase. Has this ever happened before, that the pilot to a series is released on DVD a year before the series is scheduled to premiere?

I know I'll be able to see it for free eventually on Sci-Fi (or SyFy, as it's soon to be known), but I just had to buy it this morning. I'll probably watch it this weekend, then post my thoughts.
I'm looking forward to it :).

The original Battlestar pilot aired in 2003 I believe, but the actual series didn't start until 2004. That was slightly different, in that it was shown on TV and then released on DVD later - wasn't Caprica meant to have aired and been released on DVD at the same time or something?

The only musical cue I recognised came right near the end in the last scene between Joseph and his son, it was the theme from A Good Lighter which is prominent in most scenes between Bill and Lee Adama. Usually invoking a tear or two but, in this case, making me scoff with annoyance.

I finally watched the DVD last night, and overall I liked it. It really is much different from BSG, but it shows a lot of promise. One thing that it does share with BSG is raising a lot of philosophical and moral questions, and it's not going to flinch and take the easy way out on those questions. I appreciate elements like that. The final scene in the episode was very effective in making me want to see more and see how the story evolves. It was just really creepy to see that Daniel put Zoe's avatar into his prototype Cylon :eek.
It's also going to be interesting to see more of the background and the events that ended up shaping William Adama into the great leader he turned out to be. We can already see that he grew up with a father who was very much steeped in shades of gray as opposed to black and white.

Caprica exec producer Jane Espenson is using her powers as a charter member of the Whedonverse for good. Sources confirm to me exclusively that Buffy all-star James Marsters is joining the Battlestar Galactica prequel for a sizeable arc.
Marsters will play a dangerous terrorist leader by the name of Barnabus Greeley in a minimum of three episodes. Driven by desires both moralistic and carnal, Barnabus is as lethal as he is unpredictable.
And no ones does lethal and unpredictable better than Marsters.
Caprica is set to make its Syfy debut on Jan. 22.

Let's forget for a second that it has anything whatsoever to do with Battlestar Galactica and then, based on that kind of advertising, ask: "Would I really be interested in watching this?"
I certainly wouldn't, but then I found the Caprica pilot episode quite rubbish so I'm a bit... unique that way.

I geeked out over all the references and stuff (mainly the prototype Cylon, to be honest), but like Droo says: if you pretend it isn't associated with Battlestar Galactica at all, then there isn't a huge amount of appeal to me either. I don't think I'd watch it at all if it wasn't feeding off the back of Battlestar. :\
Then again, there have been shows like that which didn't grab me through the promotional stuff, but once I soldiered through a few episodes I wound up getting hooked. Dollhouse and Warehouse 13 for example: watched the former for the Joss Whedon connection, and the latter because it had a lot of guest stars that I was fond of; wound up thoroughly enjoying both. So who knows!

I got around to watching the pilot last night...
I didn't really mind the slower timing, there was a lot to handle in that first episode to set up for everything else so it was okay by me. I think it did an overall good job of getting us familiar with the setting and the characters we'll be seeing regularly.
I really like how while yes, it's done by the same people and it's a prequel to BSG... it still seems to somehow carry an entirely different feel so far... at least to me it does.
Overall I was kinda like "oh... that's pretty cool... neat... okay..." but wasn't really hooked... until the very end. THAT made me interested to see where they would go from and is probably the reason I'll be waiting for the series to actually start. Just... hope they put everything up on hulu so I can actually watch it. lol

So, the second episode aired last night, I believe. First off: I have to say how much I like the intro sequence to Caprica. For those of you who haven't seen it, here it is:
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/34bKoi4Rj2g&hl=en_GB&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/34bKoi4Rj2g&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
By extension I really like the look and feel of the show. Caprica City itself in particular has a tangible atmosphere to it. From the way people dress, to the architecture, it all feels very believable as a setting. Hearing the Caprican anthem at Atlas Stadium actually gives me goosebumps (So say we all, So say we all, Caprica Abides!) and proved that Bear McCreary was definitely the right choice to score this series. Here is a blog by Bear about his work on this episode (Rebirth) http://www.bearmccreary.com/blog/?p=3108
Onto the episode itself... I am really intrigued by Polly Walkers character (the teacher from the Athena Academy) and what her intentions for Lacey (I think that's Zoe's friends name?) are. Also, the whole group marriage thing. Are they going to try and make her one of the 'family'? She did mention that Zoe said they were going to join a new family on Gemenon... maybe the monotheists/Soldiers of the One are all about polygamy.
I like the way they are handling film Zoe/the Cylon, switching between the robot body and Zoe's perception of herself. I'm not sure exactly where they are going with her trying to hide the fact that she's in there, but I am intrigued enough to keep watching.
Amanda Graystone's realisation and announcement that Zoe was a terrorist, and the ensuing uproar, were quite surprising. I thought I heard the crowd shouting "Burn her!" as she and Daniel fled the memorial service. Did anyone else notice that??

I watched the new episode last night, and I liked it a lot. It's definitely MUCH different from BSG, but it's still intriguing, thoughtful, and very well done. It's also quite beautiful, the visuals are stunning in some cases. For some reason, I really really liked the look of the blimp hovering over the stadium where the pyramid game was about to start.
I am also really quite impressed with the switching back and forth between Zoe and the Cylon. It reminds you that there's a frightened girl stuck inside that robot body, and she's no less affecting knowing that she's just a computer program and not really a real girl.
I'm also really interested to watch the interplay between the young William Adama and his uncle. I keep thinking we're seeing the seeds of The Old Man being sown, and wondering which lessons his uncle is teaching him will turn into things we saw when he was in command of the Galactica.
And yes, that moment where Zoe's mother announced to the crowd that Zoe was a terrorist and responsible for the bombing was actually quite frightening. A kick-in-the-gut way to end the episode, and I'm fascinated to see how the storyline moves forward from this point. No doubt the Graystones are pariahs now. Ending the episode with that event makes it clear that, like with BSG, Caprica will have storylines and incidents that mirror events in our own lives, a subtle commentary on life on Earth.

OK I finally decided to watch this show although I at first thought that it couldn't pull me in with it's topic but now I seem to understand where this is going at least I believe so and it really makes me excited. Even some events in the 4th season of BSG make a lot more sense to me now: Like the Cylons' monotheism and Baltar's followers.
In the series this movement seemed to come out of nowhere and here its roots are shown and why they live underground.

Please believe me when I say I'd almost finished a very thorough critique of this episode before my computer crashed explaining clearly why I thought what I thought. Seriously, it was like one and a half times my hand span and I can't be bothered doing it all again so I'll just be as brief as I possibly can be.
I tried the second episode, despite my scathing opinion of the pilot, because people here were very happy with it. I thought I might've been too harsh in my judgement and perhaps had missed something. Clearly, I am missing something as it seems we're not even watching the same show. It's Gladiator all over again.
Characters are so flat. I don't care for any of them. The plot is bland. The pacing is woeful. Entire scenes are pointless. Nothing happens! The only bit that had me entertained in anyway was when the robot said "And the crowd goes fracking wild, sir..."
Yes, it has had some dosh thrown at it so the special effects are nice, Caprica looks well-realised, and there are no acting problems. It's just a shame their characters are so dull.
I'm going to be honest here and I don't mean to cause offense, it is after all only my opinion and I had phrased this better in my post-that-was-never-to-be, but I think you're all wearing Galactica Goggles. It is truly like I'm seeing something totally different to you guys and it's frustrating me to no end. The praise by and large has been based on its technical merits; the look of Caprica, the change between the girl and the cylon, or the slightest nod of Galactica nostalgia. The only thing that actually happened was her mother outing her as a terrorist at the end. That was it. The rest was exposition and I was bored out of my skull.
Personally, I think you're all being far too generous to Ronald D. Moore with this one. Who knows? Maybe he has some great story to tell somewhere along the line with great revelations and plot twists, but he's not doing that yet, he's just wallowing in turgid character melodrama. Remember, with BSG he had something concrete to work with, an idea which he twisted brilliantly into his own vision, but still it wasn't his own original premise. Maybe that is why I find this so incredibly flawed and poorly executed. I'm not going to judge this show on what it could be but what it is, and I find it dull to the point of being infuriating.
Seriously, forget about its Galactica ties, and is it really that good? :\

I can't really seperate it from BSG in my mind.. because it is related to BSG. As has been said, we are seeing the beginnings of stuff that happened throughout BSG and if nothing else I find that interesting. I do find myself having little interest in Daniel Graystone himself so far, though I don't think that's any fault of the actor playing him, but pretty much all of the other characters appeal to me on some level.
Plus, as ^ said, Polly Walker! Anyone who doesn't know the joys of this woman is missing out big time.

I may just be insane... but I'm still enjoying it. I'm separating it from BSG as much as I can and so far I'm enjoying the atmosphere that is being created, the characters aren't exactly "WOW" but they come off as ordinary people with enough quirks to keep me intrigued in them. *shrug*
The slow pacing so far doesn't bug me. I feel like it's still establishing itself and the drama is slowly building. Maybe I just don't feel the need for something to "happen" in every episode. I think there's foundations being laid here, though... and I'm still curious enough to see where it's going to go.
:3 If nothing else I'm enjoying the Adama backstory... which while yes, I do wonder if I'd enjoy it as much if I had never watched BSG, I'll just take it for what it's worth right now.

1x03 "The Reins of a Waterfall"
Sam Adama is becoming my fav character, by far. I wish that guy was my uncle. If it comes down to Caprica vs. Tauron, I'm totally behind the Taurons.
I love how they have handled Sam and his husband, really great (and natural feeling) representation of a gay couple so far. It's probably helping that Jane Espenson is on the writing team.
I am starting to like the dynamic between Amanda and Daniel. It was pretty sad to have Zoe watching them after they'd both been injured. Although I totally laughed out loud at "...How about a good frak?"
Slightly confusing to see Luciana "Louanne Katraine" Carro as Graystone's PR woman!
Sister Clarice is getting more and more creepy.
Anyone know what the ratings are like for this, btw?

I found this online:
Caprica’s episode (http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/02/01/caprica-no-ratings-juggernaut/40776) on Friday night averaged a .5 rating with adults 18-49 and 1.411 million viewers. That compares with 1.6 million viewers and a 0.4 adults 18-49 rating for the pilot episode. But the pilot was two hours, and was widely available in a variety of ways (online, on-demand, DVD) well before the pilot actually aired.

Awesome! I really enjoy kinda behind the scenes "background" stuff. Was hoping they'd explain them ever since they pointed out that they were culturally significant as more than just decoration.

I like how Sam and grandma Adama are gradually turning little Bill into a Tauron badass. "The dead don't really die until their death is avenged." :ohno
Dancing Cylon?! :lol
I am amazed at how well Daniel Graystone managed to turn around the interview on Backtalk. I am also starting to get a little smiggly for his and Amanda's relationship :3
...and then she has to go get in the car with Sam :ohno

The scene back at home at the Adamas was great although it was obvious that he had not killed her because she is in the intro and if she had died in the third episode she wouldn't have been there with the actress' name as a regular character.

^ Yes! Sam for the win. :lol
I loved how much Daniel was floundering without Amanda there; but as soon as she came on, he got his confidence back. They work so well as a couple in terms of personalities; it's nice to see them not only showing that, but also illustrating the whole "we're stronger together" mentality in such a clear and yet ellegant way.
Seriously, though. What is going on with Greystone's bottom lip / chin. Is that a really lame attempt at a soul patch or something?

Do you think that the whole dancing Cylon scene is for building up a relationship of some sort between the younger engineer and Zoe? You know boys get obsessed with their machines/toys and maybe he will get even more once he finds out that there is a hot chick trapped inside this body.
I really like the dialog between Mrs Graystone and the investigator.
I lost my daughter on this train. - I lost everyone on this train.
You are not quite sure why he says it that way: His personal guilt for letting the Stark boy go or is he just saying it this way because it makes him look more appealing.

I may be a little late coming to the bandwagon, but I just found The Caprican (http://showblogs.syfy.com/caprican/). It's the show blog that Syfy runs for Caprica, but it's done as an in-character news blog.
I've just been chuckling away at some of the random bits on there, ranging from the "solar flare forcast" for Caprica to an article on the top five things overheard on Eros Day, to random trivia about which guests are the worst on Backtalk.
Someone clearly has too much time on my hands. Makes me feel warm and tingly inside to know it isn't me. :lol

My only complaint about last night's episode is that New Caprica was a little too reminiscent of The Matrix for me, and it's Tamara Adama who is now The One.
Otherwise, the scenes with the Adama family were very well-done, as usual, and I also loved the boardroom scene with Daniel making his pitch with the Cylon prototype. I found myself wondering if they would show Zoe standing there with her arm ripped off! O_o

I am really digging New Cap City. Once again, I think it's the visual style and cinematography that really makes this part of the show for me... the future/retroism.
The scenes with the Adama family, as always, were excellent. Every week we learn something new about Tauron culture. Hearing the 'A Good Lighter' theme as Joseph got his tattoo (which I guess signifies the loss of a spouse) was pretty sad.

Virgis seems to be a dangerous mother-frakker. Zoe is dating her technican...how cute :) Is it just compasion or has Zoe a plan as well.
I enjoyed the conversation between the two: "Don't tell me that you look like this in real life!""Well actually I do."
I really like the way how Caprica is addressing real life problems of our online communities in its exaggerated Sci Fi form.
The shows great focus on virtual reality is really a huge contrast to BSG's "Post 9/11 meets Lowtech Space Opera" feeling.
But if they really want to get a second season they need to build up a little bit more speed. I like slow shows like FireFly and the Sarah Connor Chronicles but my favorite shows normally get canceled...

1x07 The Imperfections of Memory
I like how the action seems to be picking up a bit now. All these bombings and car crashes make it seem like Caprica City is falling apart.
Why is Amanda seeing her brother Darius? :ohno Where is he leading her? Is there really some kind of religious significance to Zoe as the 'mother of ever-lasting life'? More to the point, are Amanda and Sister Clarice gonna hook up?! :mischief I want to hang out in the Dive.
Is cute lab boy going to end up the father of the Cylons?? :o

Did you guys ever consider the posibility that Zoe is not origin of the Cylons? Right now it seems pretty unlikely but what if Tamara is the one that is going to create the "evil" cylons. Zoe might be just the red herring and new Caprica is the place in which the believes of the Cylons are forged.
This is just my little theory here but I think once the STO finds out about another reborn they will try to obtain her as well and it is Tamara not Zoe who has got more than one reason to hate the humans for what they did to her.
Maybe we should try to keep a discussion going about who might or might not be the true father or mother of the Cylons.

Amanda is SO awesome... Where she basically told Vergis to gtfo of her house and to shut up about Daniel was just awesome... XD
New Caprica remains to be awesome as a side thing..
And Daniel's testing Zoe was insane this ep... The scene with the Doggie was probably the most tense for me so far...I dunno why. rofl. When she shot I just about was all "NOOOOOOO" and then the "they were blanks" was an instant relief.
Also just as a side thing, the transference of Zoe as an avatar into the Cylon really gives some insight on how the five and then the actual skin-job models transferred themselves around as far, I think... I'm intrigued. Obviously it's not the exact same, but it lays down an interesting facet of how to transfer one's "soul" into the next "model". Makes me wonder if they'll do that with the Zoe-Cylon-Prototype at some point ...I'd also write more on this right now but I am being distracted by my cat and wine. :P

Daniel, you jerk! We are seeing a new side to him, with his testing of Zoe, and boy can he be nasty! I did really enjoy those scenes though, as I don't think you could ever tell for certain if Zoe was going to give in or stand her ground.
"I'm Joseph Adama. Who the frak are you?" What a badass he looked, gunning down the crowd at the Mysteries club. I wonder who this woman is that's helping him, since she said she doesn't look like that in real life... and what is Tamara getting up to, now that she has achieved a kind of god-like status in the V World?

I truly hated Daniel by the end of this episode, especially after the dog incident. In some ways he was tormenting the daughter he claims to love, preying upon her absolute fear of fire and then trying to make her shoot the family pet. He really can be an asshole at times.
I did really enjoy the Mysteries nightclub, though...that place rocked. :)

Well, right from the beginning we know this is going to be a dramatic episode! U-87 on the run from the law :ohno
Clarice = badass. I'm glad she put the fear into Barnabus. I have never warmed up to him as a character. Something about the way he's played bothers me...
Anyone else feel for Philomon / cute lab boy? He is falling in love with the U-87 >_< ... and now he's dead? :cry Oh Zoe..
Is that the Master at Arms from the Battlestar Galactica making a cameo as the Colonel from military procurement? o_O I could swear it is...
Eros Day.. another little snip of in-world culture. Nice :)
What is Tamara trying to achieve in the V-World? And holy crap it was his assistant/secretary, all along, who was helping Joseph?! I didn't see that coming at all.
A little bit of Mr. Gaeta singing on the soundtrack for Caprica too, huh? Sounds awfully mornful.. ohgod Amanda don't throw yourself off the bridge!! :eek

They definitely left us with effective enough cliffhangers to bring me back later this year. For me the show was a little slow in starting but kept revving up each week, seeming to hit its stride toward the end.
I'm wondering if we're not going to see New Caprica City again, since Tamara killed Joseph in the game. Since he can never go back, I don't know who else might try to get in to see her, unless Zoe ends up doing it. I was also pretty floored to find out who Joseph's guide had been all along...hadn't seen that coming AT ALL.
They were also really careful to not give any hints in the preview for the second half of the season as to whether Amanda survived the bridge jump. Right now I'm betting she does.

You're right about the Colonel, Jenny. Spotted that too. :)
Philomon / cute lab boy dead! That's not cool. I liked him.

I would guess that, since SGU started up the week after Caprica finished, you're looking at 10-12 weeks time. The Syfy plan was to air SGU 1.0, Caprica 1.0, SGU 1.5, and Caprica 1.5 back to back, for some gods-unknown reason.
Totally saw the whole Emmanuelle / Evelyn reveal coming, though admittedly not until she said "Nothing is real here; not even my pretty face". Nice twist, though... and if it means we get to see more Teryl Rothery while she tries to get into Joseph's pants, then yay. :love
I think we're probably going to have some gimmick with the U-87 where the chip is super-protected and shielded, and thus Zoe will be okay. After all, some of her coding needs to survive to instil the "One True God" mentality in the Cylons in the first place... so they must be able to retrieve at least a few scraps from the chip. So sad about Cute Lab Guy though. :(
I'm intrigued to find out which piece of bad news Daniel received over the phone in the end. Was he being told that the U-87 was destroyed, or was it about his wife? I'm also intrigued to see where they take Daniel: while losing Amanda would add credibility to him becoming the heartless progenitor of the Cylons, the Colonel was talking about him "taking over the company"; maybe they're planning to have him seize control of Graystone Industries, combine his chip with their body, and thus exonerate Daniel somewhat? He is, after all, too likeable a character for them to turn him into a villain. :mad
Random things I'm wondering for the back half of Season 1, and for Season 2:
- Explaining the maths is far too boring to go into, but basically it works out that Adama was roughly 25 in the Razor. He's 11 now, and the Cylon War lasted 12 and a half years... which adds up to roughly 25. Means we've got a season or two for the Cylons to go from zero to interstellar war machine. Is that enough time for them to develop their Raiders and Basestars? Or are we going to see someone like Vergis or Graystone developing those for the military?
- Since Joseph has no reason to obsess with V-world anymore, who is going to be our window into that? Are we done with Tamara now? Or are we going to get a situation where a disgraced Graystone turns to New Cap City to escape, finds the Tamara avatar, and somehow uses her to get back in with the Cylon project?
- How many other Battlestar cast members will they be able to sneak in?! Or, more seriously... are we going to have any sneaky encounters with the Final Five before they create the skinjobs, when they still have their Earth 1.0 personalities, etc? Sam Anders in the audience at a C-Buccs game would be pretty apt.

This is one of my theories as well except that I think the STO is going to hunt for Tamara once they find out about her existence. She is a lot easier to manipulate and she has already created a part of the self made heaven idea.
I am watching too much Castle lately so please forgive me the following comment:
Zoe is too good to be true. If she is the mother of the cylons one has just to reproduce her for the chip and we have a smart and monotheistic machine race but wouldn't that be too easy.

I will admit that this show has been slow to get going, but it definitely feels like with this mid-season break we have a lot to look forward to and think about - though I do think that if we didn't have BSG to compare it to, a lot of these questions wouldn't be raised. The comparison I made to a friend of mine is that it's almost like watching the prequel trilogy: you know where it's going, but you're not sure exactly how and why it's going to get there.
One thing I wonder if they are going to develop more as time goes on is little Bill Adama. If we get a second season, will we see a jump forward in time and get to know him as a teenager? Are we going to see his first steps into the Colonial Fleet?

Apparently the second half of the season is now starting this year... this tuesday, October 5th :o
The second half of season one will now premiere on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 10:00PM ET/PT, as the citizens of Caprica deal with the chaotic aftermath of the mid-season finale’s harrowing events. It will transport you from stunningly vivid, twisted Virtual realities to the fascinating outer worlds of the 12 Colonies.
Along the way, revolutionary tensions rise, family power shifts and our characters grapple with the physical and emotional consequences of their questionable decisions. As the season races towards its stunning conclusion, each episode lays the groundwork for the inevitable (and brutal) clash between the new Cylon race and its human creators.
