Ok well this started today, so who watched? We have it DVRed and will watch it shortly.

Dollhouse is in the same timeslot that Fox gave Firefly, and we all know how well that turned out, so even if you're not going to watch, turn a TV onto it and leave the room. ;) It needs numbers if we're going to be able to see more than a few episodes!

Yeah do so! And while you are at it watch the Terminator show too.

Somehow I think that since no one has seen this show yet and every one thinks that it won't live longer than Fire Fly it must be brilliant and succesfull just to proof them wrong.

Friday nights have been dead for me since Farscape, so I'm very excited about Dollhouse. :crackGonna tape it every week.

Yes, I still use my VCR! :lol

"Something fell on me."
"I bet it was something great! :D"

:lol

Well, if there's one thing TV can certainly stand to have more of it's Eliza Dushku dancing in a scandalously short dress. I thought the first episode was pretty good, a great introduction to the main concepts of the show.. and it left a lot of loose-threads hanging to be picked up and explored later in the series.

Commercial aside, I think I like where the season is heading with the 'Big Bad' :) Have to keep watching of course to see how it plays out

This composting imprints is rather neat and how they are using the military phonetic alphabet on how the Dollhouse girls/guys are named (Alpha, Echo and Sierra are part of that). Of course some of the alphabet isn't great :lol so they might use something else or a combination of another alphabet. It will be interesting to see what other horrors Alpha has for Echo because that man was pretty devious getting a lunatic to hunt her down in this episode AND providing evidence that the Dollhouse exists to the FBI.

At least this episode had some interesting groundwork that the early Dolls have this composting issue and Echo is now going through. I like the bond made between Doll and Handler aaaaaaaaand wtf did Caroline do? Alpha might know ...

I wouldn't be surprised if we hear the phrase "Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End" in reference to the Alpha 'doll' ... probably spoken by Alpha himself, i.e. he is going to put an end to the Dollhouse :uhoh

I really really liked this second episode. Very well done, nicely balanced the past and the present, thickened Echo's mystery, and added a good amount of action/emotion.

Countdown to Nathan Fillion making an appearance ;)

On SomethingAwful, they have a sweepstakes going on, betting how many episodes the show will run for before it's cancelled. Anyone care to make a bet?

Miranda Tarkin
Feb 24th, 2009, 12:16:23 PM
Haha. I wish that wasn't so true, but with how they easily have shows come and go, I could see this happening. How are the ratings for the show thus far?

Crusader
Feb 24th, 2009, 12:28:13 PM
in one word?

BAD

OK I bet the show will have 9 Episodes on TV when they pull the plug. Only aired episodes count! Additional Episodes on DVD do not count!!!

I so hope that I am wrong but I bring bad karma to TV shows I care for.

Apparently they dropped 15% for the second episode, which is less of a drop than was expected. Sarah Connor Chronicles suffered too. I read in an interview that Eliza Dushku thinks the show really starts picking up around the fifth episode, but I think by that time most peoples opinions will be set in stone.. so I'd be surprised if it makes it to a second season.

Good exposition is a bitch :)

They should have given a real pilot to this show. I think Joss is trieing to do something way to complex for telling it in 50 minutes. How can I get drawn into a show when my heroine is a white sheet of paper with nothing written on it.

Yes, that seems to be a common complaint, that it's very difficult to empathize with a character like Echo.

Miranda Tarkin
Feb 24th, 2009, 01:22:35 PM
And considering the character of Caroline got in trouble, which put her in this position in the first place, that makes it hard too. You want to know what happened to her, but it might not necessarily have been a good thing ... :\

I don't think it will get renewed for a second season. So I think we will see the full run of the first season, but probably nothing else.

So you think that Fox will order a full season instead of just 11-14 episodes?

Oh. I forgot seasons and such work different in the US. How many episodes would be in a full season?

Crusader
Feb 26th, 2009, 05:32:30 AM
That would be around 20-23 for a standard TV show.

Little Update: If I read the IMDB entry right there have been 11 Episodes ordered and 7 shot so far.

20-23 is the standard, however for 1st season runs they usually only order around 12-13 episodes.

Joss is back in action! The last episode felt like it was written and shot like a pilot just to get ripped apart filled with existing plotlines but now I really get a feeling where this show is going.
The story about the new house was heartbreaking. So now the big question is:
What is the dollhouse?

Now I hope this show is going to continue.

This episode was great. I really loved it, although I'm sad about the neighbor being a 'sleeper active' because I really like that character. Still, its good. Really great episode. :)

Next week's looks really good too. :D

I finally got back up to date on this today, and I have to say I really hope that Dollhouse continues on into another season. There have been some great moments of classic Whedonesque zany humour (the episode where everyone was affected by some drug), some unexpected twists (the neighbour being a sleeper, the boss of the Dollhouse imprinting Victor as her lover, etc etc) and some really sad moments too (all of the Dolls 'escaping' only to be shepherded back into the Dollhouse moments later).

Now I am wondering how long it will be before we get to meet Alpha - and, of course, What is the Dollhouse? :whaa

Yeah it would be really entertaining if FOX would decide to keep the action friday/deathslot for another season. I want more dollhouse and more Terminator!!!
And btw Sierra is hot!
And the big question is: Is Alpha a bad guy or is he just badass?
Oh and who is the real mole that sends the messages?

It has to be said.. the preview for the next Dollhouse episode looks like the trailer for a really bad horror movie >_<

So the show got finally canceled but the quality of the last 6 episodes was great. I really hope the last few episodes will bring the story to its more or less deserving end.

Well, it got further than Firefly at least. I bought the season 1 DVD not too long ago and whilst it wasn't expensive, I'm now thinking maybe I should have held out and waited since I guess a complete series set will be out some time in the future. Ah well!

Thanks Joss for fucking with my brain again...as if seeing Summer Glau getting shot in the head was not enough to take the ending blew me completly away
At least it seems like Joss is really aiming for some closure:One more episode in the present and one more episode in the future

Can't wait to get the complete series set - I've only seen a few episodes of Season 2 and had the rest on our DVR that then had critical error and lost all of our stuff. :shakefist

And there are only the last 5 on Hulu so that doesn't work because there are a bunch I'm still missing in the middle. :(

I really liked Epitaph Two but this won't make any sense to you if you have not watched the last episode of the season 1 DVD.
The show got a deserving end and this is really what matters in the end.

It was not the typical thing you would expect from Joss Whedon. I have to agree with you here...but...
The original Paul died the day Alpha fried his brain in the chair. The current Paul was just another imprint for a doll that could never love her the way the real Paul did since this was taken from him.
So if Joss wanted to give Echo a happy end he had to reunite her with the original Paul in the end...but like I said this is not the way Whedon normally tells his stories.
But maybe he wanted to surprise us with a real happy end.

This reminded me of how shocked I was at the end of Samurai Champloo since I expected a bitter sweet ending from the guys that created Cowboy Bebop.
