Fuck Darwin and the cult of Darwinism
I've never understood why some Christians have this beef with the guy. I've always taken Genesis in a pretty metaphorical sense anyway. What is one day to God in the first place?

Yeehaa! :)
I've never understood why some Christians have this beef with the guy. Well it has been argued that as a result of the processes of evolution, the need for a supernatural agent (ie. God) is removed, and therefore the entire Theory of Evolution is inherently atheistic.
Plus there's also the reality of Darwin eventually leaving the Christian faith.
... which kind of leads to "OMG Evolution destroys faith in ONE TRUE GOD - IT MUST BE DESTROYED!!1!!1!!1one" type arguments.
EDIT: not all Christians of course. The Anglican Church last year even issued an apology to Darwin "for misunderstanding you and, by getting our first reaction wrong, encouraging others to misunderstand you still".
And Britain has issued a cool looking coin in commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of Darwin's birth (and 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species):

The Catholic Church has embraced Darwin as well. I think people take it too far. I mean how does it say that there is no God in this method? Although, I admit I have deistic thinking about the universe.

It's such a silly argument to even brooch, because evolutionary theory has nothing to do with the start of life on the planet. It simply describes the processes and mechanisms by which life has changed over time. How life actually began is outside of the confines of it's scope... the actual study of how life could have arisen from the inanimate is called abiogenesis.
Biological evolution isn't inherently atheistic at all, because it isn't concerned with theological implications. It's only concerned with the scientific study of change in organisms. Any social and religious implications are those invented by people adding an external spin to the topic. Even Darwin's own choices on his personal faith are an example of this. His theory may have eventually led to his agnosticism, but the two are not integrated by any means.
"The Origin of Species" is an incredibly interesting read, as is the earlier companion book Darwin wrote, "The Voyage of the Beagle." If you've ever really wondered what the book was about, now is as good a time as any to pick up a copy and find out for yourself.

Seriously:
If there is a God, he's like a software engineer, using algorithms.
Evolution is just an algorithm.
Not that I believe in God.
Not that I don't believe in God.
I'll take a sip of my Yuengling in honor of this holiday. So wonderful.

Here is a blog I sometimes read, that tries to debunk much of the ID/Creationist propaganda. Strangely, as is typical in non right-wing extremist blogs, about half the contributors seem to be pro-ID. Silly acceptance of multiple viewpoints thingy. It does a good job of chronicling the ideological fight between ID'ist and those who are more inclined towards teaching of sound scientific theory. ;)
