Going through the Archive forums is an education! I found this thread from 2003 about the best RP events. Its worth a look, to remember some of our favorite past storytelling events!

One of my biggest roleplaying regrets is that I didn't push to finish Fey'dann at all costs.

I don't think I've written better than that, and everybody who was involved with that and the adjoining threads were deeply moved to write.

One day, I want to write again with a fraction of that emotion.

EDIT: No I'm not quite done on this. Fey'dann was always the sort of story I wanted to write in a universe that is cavalier and matter-of-fact about war. I've always been fascinated by these mass acts of violence in a way of exploring something that at its roots is both a near act of nature and at the same time something that is paradoxically insane. Why do people fight? How do they find themselves again and again in an enterprise that is founded upon the destruction of life.

Murder, war, what have you is taken for granted almost everywhere but how on earth do you even cope as a society, as a person either caught up in the act, or affected by the aftermath? How do rational people throw away their rationality and abandon themselves to oblivion? People here who know me know that I've had a friend who was murdered, and I guess maybe if I was an actor instead of a writer doing roleplays that it would be called method, for me to dredge up feelings about one of the most horrible things I've ever experienced. It's only superficially about telling the story I guess. I've wanted for so long to try and make sense of something that can never make sense. Maybe in the whole futility of it, the only thing I can hope to convey is how utterly terrible these acts of violence really are. They kill people physically, but people who are left behind die in a thousand ways. At the root of the reasons I mourn this unfinished roleplay are that I never got to fully make that journey.

Sorry, I'm probably rambling now and I'm getting kind of emotional talking about this because so little of it's really the story. I was philosophically married to a message, and it's still a message I hope one day I get to try and convey.

I love my post in that thread. :D Its my favorite. Really, really inspired.

I was trying to get some of that magic back with a recent thread, but... no dice. Yet anyway.

I'm very serious about doing another project thread like that again. I'm pretty sure that Gav would also be interested. At least I hope he still is.

I don't think I've ever really been part of a "big event", especially not in the early years since I was mostly just.. doing my own little thing with TSE. At least I can't think of anything epic I was ever part of :huh

I'm just waiting in the wings for that one.

And I still think the biggest roleplaying event in which I was involved was that crazy Death Star thread. It was easily one of my very first roleplays at SWFans. Me and Peter turned up in our own Eclipse-class Star Destroyer and Sovereign-class Star Destroyer respectively! :lol

Fine. :p

Sick Cycle Carousel was fairly 'epic' and fits in the "event RP" category. As does the infamous Operation Long Knives, which I confess I still haven't read all the way through. Back when fleeters was devious and we needed complicated rules to keep everyone happy. ;)

Come to think of it, I'm sure fleeters are still devious. :uhoh

Hey! Some of us resemble that remark.

I'm mostly referring to Khendon of course. I was never that devious.

Think I posted this in another thread.

But I still have a soft spot for "Payback's a Bitch".
Frying the Jedi temple was fun.

I didn't get to take part in any of this stuff :(

Nothing recent, either? Like... "YEARS FROM NOW..." ? ;) That is pretty damn epic, if unfinished.

I was reading some old threads and ran across another 'future' thread where the Vong invade and try to kill us all! I even RPed with Liam in that one, I think that may be one of the only times I did. Which is a shame, it was fun. ... I don't think you were in that one either, Jenny. :uhoh

Oh you have no idea...

*sees Sums has already made his apperance*

Damn. :p

Uhh...about the most "Epic" thing I can think of - and I don't even remember if I was IN that - was when the Jedi attacked TSE (just before Payback, I think). In truth I doubt I was in it, Rain's always kinda been the mopey hermit type so I doubt she/he/she/them/etc. ever actually got involved with anything.

Hahaha Operation Long Knives. That started as a drunk aim chat session with Viscera and we basically were like "Hey you should totally betray Itala that would be a total dick move and incredibly awesome."

And it was. Oh it was. :)

All the best RPs start as drunken chat sessions, I suspect.

I liked the jumping around that we did on the Balmorran Civil War; the events leading up to it, the aftermath, all of it. It was fun :)

The only other 'epic' pre-reset thread I think I've been in was the Anger and Rage one. I actually got a few IM's from people telling I better not to kill s'Il ^_^;

That thread was fun. I need to read 'Red Dragon' again because that inspired me on the Miiki Barrack character (or however I spelled it) :lol

And going way back:

(When these guys all get together and write, its scary good).
