I don't usually post things like this, but this is too important not to pass along. This story just aired on Dateline about David Goldman's fight to bring his son Sean home. The case is fascinating, complex, and tragic --- I can't even do justice to the story in this short post, but the (real) short version of the story is that David's wife took their son to Brazil on a vacation, and then decided she was never returning to the US - kidnapping Sean. During the ensuing legal battle, David's wife remarried and then later she died from complications due to child birth. Astonishingly, the Brazilian courts will not award custody to David, the child's biological father. David's story to regain custody of his son is heart-wrenching.

My cousin is a good friend of David's and is featured in this interview. He has been a staunch supporter of David and has done much to get the word out regarding this case. In support of David, I urge all of you to please read the following transcript (or if you can find the video online, watch it):

There is a website set up that I also urge you to visit: www.BringSeanHome.org

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, please visit the following site and sign the petition to bring Sean Goldman home:

Again, I don't usually post stuff like this, but I can't keep this quiet. What is happening here is just plain wrong, and in support of David, I urge you all to visit these sites, sign the petition, and get out the word to your friends so that David can finally be reunited with his son.

This is a great online community, and I thank you all in advance for whatever support you can offer.

Also signed and sent to friends. How horrible. >_< What a failure on all sides to bring this to a sensible conclusion.

Signed and sent to friends and family. I was just 'OMG' and would so be squeezing my munchkin so tight right now if it weren't 1:20 am and the fact that she's asleep.

Thanks for the support... I spoke with my cousin this past weekend and there haven't been many updates of late --- David has to go down to Brazil for yet another hearing, but the way things have been going they're not sure what to expect.

Please continue to try to get the word out and let people know about this travesty of justice that is going on --- I pray that eventually this situation will be resolved and Sean will be brought home.

I saw this on Dateline, its great that its finally getting the national and international attention that this deserves. Hopefully Brazil will be embarrassed into doing the right thing.

I now saw at CNN that a Brazilian supreme court justice has suspended the order, so it's not happening. :\

You've got to be fucking kidding. I was shocked at first, thinking this travesty was still going on. Then I see a post it's all done with now. And now someone just decided to fuck the order off!?

If I had the power I'd have sent the friggin SAS to bring him home.

If ever someone had the right to take the law into their own hands... :verymad

Yeah I heard on the news this morning that a supreme court judge (Brazillian) suspended the order and now it could be months longer waiting for a supreme court hearing and ruling. :mad

In a way, I think it's probably a little better that their Supreme Court be involved than not. It's terrible for the poor boy though. :(

Fingers crossed that he is able to be reunited with his father.
