I'm in the process of bringing Sumor Rayial back to the board in a post-reset role as a senior member of the rebel military.
I'm doing a work up of his background and role, and wanted to ask a question of the rest of the Rebs a question before moving forward a bit.
The question is whether to bring Sums back as a Admiral or Captain or as a General or Colonel?
Basically trying to figure out where could be more of a help, in space or on the ground, as I don't have a great preference one way or the other as RPed both in my previous time here.
Any thoughts?

A general can command a small fleet if needed and also ground forces so a general may be your best bet

Dan has a General commanding a small Task Force, with a mix of ships and troops; as Reshmar says, that precedent is probably your best bet.
Aside from big plot-changing Fleet engagements like the one being planned at the moment for the liberation of Bothawui, fleeting type stuff is fairly minimal. I'm working on a plan (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19116) at the moment that would add in an aspect of the Imperials to allow a little more small-scale skirmish roleplaying; the basic idea is that the Rebels have been using small forces to ambush Imperial supply routes (as an annoyance, more than anything else), and the Empire is going to engineer a rival force to help counter that, and make things more interesting.

I think I'm going to make him a general.
The fact that there isn't much of a large fleet scene going on at the moment means the character would probably be sitting on the side waiting for things to happen.
If that changes then probably make a new character to be a line Captain or Admiral to be involved in that stuff.

We currently are in the plans for a large fleet operation. Your general can take part in the battle is you like. We are throwing the entire 3rd fleet against the Bothan sector and help them gain their freedom. I was going to write the Mandel battle myself but you are more then welcome to help out. If you are interested in getting your task group set up and get a little fluff on them in a thread just let me know. Ill give you all the stuff I have so far on the battle.

If you want as much to do as possible, part of the plan is that forces from the conclusion of the Mandel battle will turn up as reinforcements at the Bothawui battle. If you want to dive head-first into Fleeting and do as much as possible, you could always have your troops fighting with Reshmar at Mandel, and then have them turn up as the cavalry at Bothawui: that'd help tie things together nicely, I think.

that would be a very good Idea. Your group could return to Bothawui to assist in the assalt on the planet after the battle of Mandel and catch Norths fleet between your group and Captain Tyrees group. with the group we have been talking aout in messages your force would be enough to turn the battle with the Bothan ships who had joined the rebels and tyrees fleet.

Reshmar, could you post up the details on the Bothawui attack here?
I feel like I'm out of the loop :huh

Well, the basic idea is to spawn a few special operations or planetary engagement threads set around the liberation of Bothawui. Bothan freedom fighters are working to free themselves of the Imperials hold. We will let information leak to the Sector High Admiral and Moff that the fleet is massing over Mandel for an assault on Bothawui and the sector fleet.
This of course is meant to have the Imperials send the bulk of the sector fleet to “surprise us” at Mandel. Thus leaving the Sector Moffs command ship with a small Imperial escort group and the ships of the Bothan defense fleet. Captain Tyree’s task group will then jump in and engage the defensive forces while the Bothan freedom fighters fight to gain control over the 2 Golan II battle stations and over throw the imperial commanders on the Bothan ships.
Tyree’s fleet will engage the Moff's fleet and as the Bothan’s gain control of the Defense fleet ships they will slowly assist Tyree’s group. Just as all hope seems lost for the Moff Travis North’s fleet, minus him in command, will jump in and engage the Bothan’s and Tyree’s group.
As this battle rages the entire bulk of the 3rd fleet will engage the Sector fleet at Mandel, Which is more An NPC story I have been working on. As the battle wraps up there Part of the 3rd will jump to Bothawui and catch the Imperials between Tyree and the Bothan’s and the group from Mandel. From there we are still working on details but the imperials will withdraw or surrender or what ever we agree on. The forces will be landed to assist the Bothan’s on the planet over throw the Imperial garrison.
That’s it in a large well rounded nut shell.
