View Full Version : Galaxy at War: Naboo

After the Battle of Endor, when news of Palpatine's death had spread across the galaxy, Naboo saw an uprising which apparently ended with the ousting of the local Imperial garrison by a combined force of Gungans and Naboo's Security Forces. Whether they were successful in liberating the entire world in this instance is unclear.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in roleplaying the on-going resistance on Naboo. Ideally this would be a situation that would take some time to resolve and would involve Imperial vs non-Imperial characters as they fight for the liberation of Naboo. This would be based around small-scale ground-based conflicts primarily, with urban/siege warfare in the cities, jungle warfare in the swamps, etc. Obviously there would be non-military action too - politicians, Jedi, civilians.

If anyone is interested, I have some ideas for potential characters. Thought it might be interesting to show the on-going, real-world struggle that is faced by a planet caught up the Galactic Civil War.

I think this would be a perfect place for Lamar and I'nu to get involved in the going ons of the war. I'nu on one hand will provide some side character, support, with a bit of his trading and commerece involvement for the Rebels. Meanwhile, Lamar could get involved in ground work on the Alliance side.

While I don't think I want to risk taking on too many roleplaying ventures at once, I still think this is a good idea and there's plenty of potential. One of my hang-ups with Star Wars roleplaying is that it's just so big and characters are flying all over the place. This, to me, is appealing in the same way that the Redención House approach to the Mutants, Unite setting was and it also provides the opportunity to roleplay some great military skirmishes.

I'll give it some thought, it's tempting to say "Yes" now, but that's mainly because I'm all caught up with my roleplaying and I may feel differently when I fall behind. :uhoh

Amos Iakona is from Naboo originally. He's got Rebel leanings, and would certainly be willing to get involved and help out somehow or another. He got drafted from the NSF into the Empire a dozen or so years ago, and was never really all that happy about it; I'm sure he'd be happy to help out one set of his former colleagues to beat up another set. ;)

I was hoping to get his force abilities introduced in the short term, though: unless anybody is planning to have Jedi about on the planet who he could be an apprentice to, I'll probably wind up showing up part way through or something. :)

Ooooh... that could work. I shall have a ponder, and then glomp you on AOL when I get the chance. :D

Swamp dwelling Jedi... you thinking of a Yoda (ie. sane) lean to the whole thing, or more of a Jolee Bindo (ie. grumpy old man)? ;)

Just as long as he isn't a Gungan Jedi... >_<

Not a Gungan, no.

I suppose Jolee Bindo meets Robin Hood by way of Drizzt Do'Urden.

...yeah, he's still forming in my mind.

The whole jungle warfare element really appeals to me. It's reminiscent of Vietnam and after a bit of brainstorming, I can see myself roleplaying a soldier who has been seperated from his platoon in the midst of battle and is trying to find his way back to them or civilisation.

We could open the storyline with Theed under occupation and martial law declared, so many of those who are loyal to the monarchy may have fled the city and be in the process of regrouping, regathering their forces and supplies to try and plan a rescue/liberation attempt?

Droo
Jan 26th, 2009, 07:08:01 PM
That would work. And it would also serve as an effective platform for our characters to mingle, conveniently running into each other on the outskirts of towns and in the middle of swamps.

Dasquian Belargic
Jan 26th, 2009, 07:10:04 PM
I figure the resistance will be divided over plenty of terrain, so although Naboo may have been in conflict for a while, it would be viable for the resistance members to be unaware of one anothers presences. We are talking about an entire planet after all, so it's likely they are pretty far flung.

Captain Untouchable
Jan 26th, 2009, 07:20:42 PM
What is the fate of the Queen going to be? Are we assuming that the Imperials captured her when they declared martial law, or will she be a Queen-in-Exile, leading the resistance? Or some balance of the two - she's in the palace, but the Rebels have people on the inside feeding her information / slipping her instructions out?

Dasquian Belargic
Jan 26th, 2009, 07:23:40 PM
According to Wookiepedia, there was an Imperial puppet ruler in place before Endor, named Kylantha.

If Kylantha did not favor a return to the Old Republic, neither was she an Imperial proponent. Shortly after ascending the throne she ordered a discrete investigation into the death of her predecessor, learning that the Empire had a hand in her death. Maintaining the status quo, Kylantha was careful not to antagonize Imperial relations, but she refused to alter the democratic structure of the Naboo constitution or relinquish Naboo sovereignty and Law. Like Queen Jamilla, Kylantha may have held Separatist sympathies.

Kylantha was very popular with the people of Naboo, a popularity that insulated her from overt Imperial pressures. However the Queen was often sequestered in Theed Palace by Imperial Admiral DeClann.

It may be, then, that she is still basically under house arrest. In which case an undercover resistance member (not necessarily allied to the Rebel Alliance), within the Imperial occupation of Theed Palace, might be a potential character for someone to play :)

Do we have (or do we want to compile) a shortlist of people who are going to be involved in this? Once we know who wants in, and who wants in as what, we'll be in a better situation to work out where to go from here.

I'm in with my would-be Jedi Apprentice guy, and possibly as a mercenary-type guy as well, depending on what happens.

I had a thought earlier - would anyone mind if I played the (former) Senator for Naboo?

Obviously, Senator Amidala died at the end of Episode III. While I'm sure we all love Jar Jar Binks, I somehow doubt that he wound up taking over as the sole representative for the planet of Naboo. Presumably then, Queen Jamila - or perhaps Queen Kylantha - would have appointed someone else to serve as her successor.

It wasn't until Episode IV that the Senate was dissolved, and the Imperial Governors were given direct control. That's a gap of about 19 years I think, in which a Senator could have served. For the last seven (?) years though, said Senator would presumably have been out of a job, in retirement on Naboo, or whatever. He's hardly a soldier, but he might be able to add a little legitimacy, beaurocracy, and charismatic speeching to the whole movement. ;)

Also, something I picked up on while watching Episode I the other day: Captain Panaka says something along the lines of "Our security volunteers will be no match for a battle-hardened Trade Federation army". I may be the only one who didn't pick up on that first time around, but if the people assigned to defend the Queen are volunteers, then they're presumably pretty loyal to the legitimate government. That kind of questionable alligence might cause the Imperials to have disbanded the Naboo Security Force, and have an Imperial Garrison on the planet in the wake of the post-Endor uprising.

Said disbanded volunteers would probably be working with the resistance, assuming they haven't all been <s>executed</s> "accidentally" killed.

Hardcore, lol.

I went privateer, there wasn't enough variation in style of craft and some of the ones they had for the Imperials made you think WTH. That was about the same time they launched the posters and crafting kits... They were fun.

We need to start a Galaxies thread and let everyone rip into it again.

:lol Definately.

I liked one of the new TIEs they threw in - the Opressor, I think it was, that came with the extra wing on top like some kind of OTT chav spoiler. The one when they just shoved a gunner on the back like a Y-Wing was a bit dumb, though. Imperials already have Dupes to act as slow lumbering chariots of certain death.

I almost went Privateer, but I didn't like the Hutt ships, and couldn't spell the Black Sun ones. :\

Thread necrosis, FTW!

Are we still wanting to go somewhere with this? I have the pre-Moff Senator for Naboo bouncing around in my brain, yelling at me to find somewhere to post him. ;)

Is it worth thinking up a few key timeline events between now and Endor (some of which we can always do threads for), just so we know where everyone stands and can get the ball rolling?

Alright, so here is the cast I think we need...

In Theed City (under Imperial occupation)
* The Queen, currently under house arrest
* Members of the Queen's guard, also technically under arrest
* The Imperial occupation garrison
* An Imperial politician/leader figure of some sort for the garrison
* Average civilians, trapped in the city

In the Swamps
* Members of the Queen's guard who have fled the city
* Average civilians who have fled the city
* Perhaps some Rebel soldiers?
* A handful of Jedi who have either come to aid in the liberation, or were already there to begin with!

There may also be some people who are neither Imp, Rebel nor native - people looking to profit from the situation somehow. Smugglers perhaps, who are offering passage to people trapped on Naboo?

I'll probably wind up using different characters to what I originally planned, but I'd love to get my Mandalorian stuck in with this - he "retired" to Naboo after the Clone Wars, and is an ex-volunteer in the Security Forces and all that jazz, so he's bound to get stuck in with helping out with the on-planet resistance.

He also happens to be the father of Amos Iakona... whose probably going to be there if Tionne is... :uhoh

During her reign, Kylantha appointed Pooja Naberrie (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Pooja_Naberrie), the younger niece of the beloved Naboo (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Naboo) politician Padmé Amidala (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Padm%C3%A9_Amidala), as Naboo's representative in the Imperial Senate (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_Senate), a position Naberrie held until Emperor (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Emperor) Palpatine (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Palpatine) dissolved that governmental body in 0 BBY (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/0_BBY). Kylantha also utilized Teckla Minnau (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Teckla_Minnau), a loyal servant of the deceased Amidala, as one of her handmaidens (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Handmaiden).

Posted! I left the ending open for anyone who wants to be the "unforeseen guest", and there can be others there too, I suppose. For an image of the town, if you've seen Miracle at St. Anna, the town of St. Anna (with an appropriate little harbour) is what I'm working off of.

I envisioned that whomever the guerillas/partisans/rebels were, Zofi would be one who granted their leaders or his friends among them a place to stay for a while to grab food and sleep and to catch up on the latest news; so this would be one of a number of visits by the "unforeseen guest"

Zofi is not a Naboo/Naboite/Nabooian, but an immigrant of sorts who has fit in well with the natives and neighbours.

I hope this works for people. I know it's a bit long, but I actually trimmed it down a bit. Lately I've been writing short stories instead of posts for my characters, and have needed to delete scenes and such to make them readable.

Finally got around to setting this guy up. Ages ago, Jenny and I were idly tossing ideas back and forth about characters for this... somewhere between "The Sheriff of Nottingham" and a retired Senator, this guy wound up springing up in my head.

He's a retired actor, who decided to give something back to the community (on Naboo) where he grew up, so he decided to volunteer in the Naboo Security Forces... kinda the Star Wars version of Stephen Segal, but not quite as awesome. I figure that since the Empire responded pretty harshly to the whole "Yay, Palpatine is dead!" party after Endor, he's wound up retiring from that too... or maybe he's still working for the NSF, and is the "man on the inside"? (Wasn't someone setting up a Queen for us to play with?)

I'll have to (find and) read over the Zofi post again... but once I do, any objections to me being the "unforseen guest"?

[/Jace]

Edit:

Okay; read the post, and it doesn't make sense for Ryota to be dodging Imperial patrols. *pokes Jenny* Maybe your hairy naked Jedi guy would make sense, just so we can get stuff rollin'?
