Been a fair while since we had a thread like this, so thought I'd put up a new one.

For me:

* Rome: Total War - got it from the bargain bin yesterday. First game of the series I've played, and I only just managed to pull myself away from it earlier. Awesome game. :) I was originally hoping to get Medieval 2 however my specs don't appear to be up to it.

* Baldur's Gate (original) - reinstalled this for a bit of nostalgia last week. However I also installed a bunch of mods for it (EasyTutu to utilise the BG2 engine, Widescreen mod, NPC banter mod, Quest fixes etc). I did well up until I got to the mines in Cloakwood Forest last Wednesday then I haven't played since - I was kind of getting a bit bored now that the plot's moving into the latter stages of the game which I know almost off by heart.

I was playing World of Warcraft but I let my subscription lapse last week. I was only playing once a week for an hour or so each session and I was just getting tired of being ganked all the time in Northrend by bored 80s. Plus I'm pretty much the last person out of my old group of real-life mates that was still actively playing it which has taken most of the fun out of it.

The last game I played was Prince of Persia. I just reinstalled GTA: San Andreas, so might give that another spin.

Currently hopelessly addicted to Rock Band 2 ...my wallet is weeping with the money I've spent on the damn thing in the last week (extra guitar controller, tons of music from the store...good lord.)

Aside from that I still off-and-on play Guild Wars (probably will play this weekend because of a silly event they are having)...beucase i'm too cheap for WoW. :p

I am looking forward to beat the GOW2 Campaign on insane with one of my buddies.
The endless setlist in Rockband 1 is still on the radar and I really want the "Heart and Shape" Foo Fighters album.
Then I still need to get my Char in LOTRO to level 50 and then straight into Moria.
The next thing on my list is finally getting my hands on Mass Effect... and I still want to try out Bad Company and Saints Row 2.

Nowadays, a lot of EVE Online. Has a PvP endgame that trumps every other MMO. Not to mention the depth of the economy.

I am careful of recommending it to others though, because of this:

Dragon Quest IV - DS
Star Ocean: Second Evolution - PSP
Warcraft 3 - PC

Editing in Left 4 Dead, as I dabble in that from time to time when I feel the need to kill zombies. Or survivors. Or I just need to shoot things.

I haven't touched my XBoxen in... yikes, since New Years Eve.

Fallout 3, Oblivion, X3: Terran Conflict and I haven't picked an MMO to concentrate on for the first few months of 2009. I'm considering a change of scenery and may delve into Everquest 2 if my work colleague can persuade me. But if not I'll flip a coin between Eve Online and WoW.

I'll also be installing C&C: Generals over the weekend. Love playing as the USA on that game. I get really worked up if I lose just one unit, to the point where I'll reload a game no matter how far back it is, just so that I don't lose any units to the GLA. I'm quite patriotic, even if I'm not American :p

I've been playing Sacred 2: Fallen Angel and WoW.

Sacred 2 has hilariously bad (IE a Ramie production) voice acting and dialog. The game is a lot of fun. It plays a lot like Diablo, and I love Diablo.

I also bought a Radeon 4870X2 but my power supply is wimpy so I had to buy a new one.

Yog, that is both true and still funny to this day. Eve's interface is terrible.

I've also installed Thief: Deadly Shadows and have started playing that again. I've played as far as the first (assuming there's more later) time you get inside the Keepers hideout after stealing the Chalice of something or other and the Jacknalls Paw. I'm anxious to play the infamous Cradle level I've heard about. The few mentions of this old grey hag has really creeped me out.

^ The Cradle is a lot of fun, if you take the time to explore it... which probably means you'll have to replay the level, because the first time I played through I was too scared to really enjoy it ^_^; If you search this forum for the Deadly Shadows thread, I posted a link up to an extensive pdf article by the level designer for the Cradle, which is a very interesting read :)

I've just downloaded the Resident Evil 5 demo from XBox Live. It's a lot like Resident Evil 4. Up to now it seems pretty much the same except you have a partner with you who fights alongside you (as opposed to Leon escorting Ashley in RE4 who has no attack capability). And you can switch ammo and items between the two as well as assist if an enemy grabs onto the other.

What will be fun is the 2-player co-op, but I can more or less guarantee I won't be playing it with Droo - he puts the horror into survival horror because he's horrible at it.

OK I finally started playing Mass Effect and I couldn't stop playing for 7 hours straight.
This is so far Bioware's best game ever! The dialog cutscenes are just amazing and I really have a lot of fun playing this game as a complete asshole on my first playthrough.

GOW2 INSANE campaign is done (got my Achievement and messa happy now).
"The Endless Setlist" is still on my radar.

Mass Effect was a huge disappointment for me.

Do you not like the story and setting or is it the engine? I guess from a game developer point of view this game must give you a headache. The loading algorithms are horrible, the shooter controls are not responsive enough and the never ending elevator rides. But all in all the rest of the game is awesome but the engine under the hood of this nice presentation needs an upgrade.

I think I've played Second Sight. Isn't that the one where you have to take pictures of ghosts to exorcise them? And you have to get real close for it to be effective!?

EDIT: No, no, no - just remembered it's Fatal Frame I've played. Not played Second Sight but I recall something about 'jacking in' to what the monsters can see?

EDIT v2.0: No - wrong again. I'm thinking of something completely different and I can't remember what its called. But I know its Japanese.

EDIT (retail version): Forbidden Siren (or just Siren) - thats the one I was thinking of. Check em out if you like scary games!

Sonic Unleashed is the biggest one for me right now. This is as close to perfect as Sonic's been since Sonic Adventure 1, and I'm adoring every second. If they'd just re-release Secret Rings or make a patch for it so I could play that with Unleashed's Wii/Nunchuk control scheme, that'd be dead perfect, too.

World of Warcraft is devouring me. Rather, its achievement system is. Levelling is a chore, grinding skills is a chore, but...dammit this achievement crap is fun. I already earned the Ambassador title from achievements. Working on getting a ton of mounts and exalted with various other factions. At last check, I'm level 62 and leading my guild in achievement points. Is that bad? My only real motivation to level is that at 65 I can go to the Isle of Quel'danas and complete "Explore the Eastern Kingdoms".

I need a next-gen console other than Wii so I can keep playing Street Fighter 4. It's not Third Strike, but it'll do. I'm glad Sakura's back.

Hey Morg, that Defense Grid demo was awesome! I really wanna play the full game now but I'll have to wait a while - already decided on my purchases for this months paycheck (I'm allowing myself just a small amount a month from now on - I reeeeally need to start saving my money).

The demo will have to do for now - try to improve on my level by aiming to thwart the enemy nearer to the beginning of the map, so to speak (ie not let them get as far into my defenses as they have been.) It's a very compelling game. I recommend it!

King's Quest 1 & Quest For Glory 2 (with King's Quest 2 on the way):

Another site has remade King's Quest 3 (and is working on Space Quest 2):

Been playing LEGO Star Wars off and on.

I hated lego Star Wars, mainly because of the very beginning of the game; they set me up in the middle of Mos Espa/Eisly as Qui Gon and Obi-Wan and nothing else. I had no freaking clue what I was doing for an hour. That was on console though; the experience has soured me to the series ne'ertheless.

Been playing Star Wars: Empire at War. It's good and all, looks great during the battles. But it's just not as gripping as Star Wars Supremacy/Rebellion. That game was immense. 200 planets to wage war over, develop and mount attacks from. And you could fill them up to the brim with defensive troops, whereas in EaW you can only have 10 'units'. A unit can be a single AT-AT, a squad of 4 AT-ST's, a squad of stormtroopers etc. I wonder if there's a mod out there which makes the game 'bigger' by allowing higher unit caps and whatnot. I used to like editing the setup files for Supremacy and setting the miantenance cost of everything to a fraction of what the default is. I'd keep it in proportion to balance the game, but put them all as low as possible to increase the number of units allowed. I had, at one point, 200 ISD II's stationed at Coruscant. Bwa-ha-ha!!! :evil

The good thing about EaW is that I'm able to win with inferior forces. I've only noticed it on the ground battles since thats the only time I'm ill-prepared (I make huge fleets or no fleets!). I managed to defend a planet with two stormtrooper squads and a single unit of 4 AT-ST's. The enemy had loads of infantry, snowspeeders and tanks. Maybe the odd artillery unit as well. I managed to captire a strategic point and build a vehicle repair station, so my AT'ST's were sorted. And the other one I captured I used for an anti-aircraft turret. The AT'ST's just ripped through the infantry. I had to use my stormtroopers to lure the snowspeeders into range of the turret but it was a lot of fun.

I wanna get Forces of Corruption next so I can make Super Star Destroyers!

Oh, has anyone played Mount & Blade? I saw it in GAME the other day and it looks rather good. Medieval game where you can be a highwayman, riding with a group of soldiers and commanding them in battle, or run a village/castle of you so choose.

I've never played Star Wars Supremacy/Rebellion is it a stand alone or a Mod of some type?

I liked the space battles of Empires at war but I found the ground battles clunky and unbalanced to be honest. When 6 rocket troopers can take down an AT-AT in just a few seconds I call BS. Big units like Walkers, especially tanks, just go poof wayyy too easily in that game. Its especially irritating when you have like 5 squad of storm troopers moving up only to get squashed beneath some pirate walker. The troopers are too slow to get out of the way. Am I supposed to find it more effective to use my Walking units to simply crush infantry rather then shooting them?

I think the dev team spent too much time on the space battles and threw in the ground scenarios just as something extra. The Space battles however are a lot of fun.

Ossum! I am downloading it now! When in GAME, the screenshots on the back of the box looked sweeeeet. I must sample it and it good, I will purchase. But not on Steam. In game it was in the '2 for £15 section I think.

EDIT: On the GAME website it's £9.99. But I definitely saw it in the 'so many for so much' section. I'll recon it tomorrow after work.

Well I have to say, the Mount & Blade demo is quite crap. I haven't played it that much in fairness, but I don't really want to now. I'm surprised at just how bad the graphics are. I had everything maxed out and it looks like its 7 years old. And the camera position is awful. It looks too close to the characters head and doesn't seem angled quite right because of it. According to the options, the numpad + and - keys allow you to zoom, but they do nothing for me. I've double checked and they work fine in other programs and games.

Oh and Tear, Star Wars: Supremacy (Rebellion outside Europe) is an old Star Wars game from 1998 which, like Empire at War, lets you go either the Empire or the Rebel Alliance. You take over planets and build structures for production, troops and turrets for defense, as well as capital ships and fighter squadrons for space combat and defense. The main view is a map of the galaxy and you can view sectors and then the planets within them. Each planet can have a certain amount of structures built, and a certain number of them can be mines. You mine raw materials and use refineries to process them. Then you can manufacture construction yards, troop training facilities, shipyards, shield generators, turbolaser batteries, ground troops as well as a large number of different space vessels.

I think I'll carry on with Fallout 3 a bit tonight, not played that in about a week or so.

My brother got a Wii for Xmas, so he gave me his old X-Box (by which i mean the original X-Box, not the 360) plus all his old games (of which he didn't have many - he usually only had half a dozen or so at once and would often trade in games for newer ones when he had finished them/gotten sick of them) - most of his games were either sports or racing games.

For the heck of it to try and get some use out of it I browsed some local gaming stores and found Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance in the bargain bin so am attempting to play it, but first impressions are pretty blah - I bought it because I loved the PC series but the console series doesn't feel the same at all. |I

(I had hoped to locate KOTOR or Republic Commando but couldn't find anything - selection for old X-Box games is pretty small and most of the titles available are sports games. :\ It's a shame he didn't have a PS2 because there's plenty of games still available for that old console.)

I daresay the X-Box is going to gather dust except for when friends come over and we have a bit of a bash on it.

I'm currently immersed in the Zone, playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl and I have to say that i's probably one of the best survival horror games I've played.

Survival is the key word, with wild mutated animals as well as various human factions to contend with, as well as the ever-present high levels of background radiation and more intense anomalies dotted about the wilderness. And don't get me started on that creepy guy in the tunnels who had some kind of strange psyonic abilities that hurt like hell until I lodged a few dozen bullets into his brain. You have to eat regularly otherwise you'll die (I suppose) and need to make use of various medkits and anti-radiation drugs when needed. You can also bleed from your wounds if you're not careful, so I always make sure I have some bandages on me.

Being unable to carry more than 50kg at a time is a real bitch, but very realistic. I can't sprint for long with a full load, and even if I walk, I eventually need to rest for a while before continuing. As I play it though, there are several things I've longed for, not least of which is some way to pass the nighttime hours.

Lo and behold, I found a mod with that and more - a sleeping bag to rest, far higher realism in terms of damage and AI, improved visuals, and drivable vehicles. I'm playing through without the mod first (Oblivion: Lost) and will have another playthrough afterwards with it installed.

That Fallout 3 is most definitely an RPG is the only reason I don't rate this game higher than it. Fallout's an RPG shooter whereas this is a survival horror shooter. But I must side with Stalker when it comes to the locations I'm exploring.

Of course right now I think I'm going to strictly stay with BioShock until I finish the main storyline... and once that is over return to ME2... while still occasionally playing multiplayer Borderlands and L4D2 with friends. And then...THEN I'll be trying the BioShock 2 multiplayer

...and when I get sick of all that I'll finally get around to replaying Assassin's Creed...and move on to the second one since that's sitting around the apartment as well. :whaa

...Not to mention the occasional breaking out of RB2 or its Beatles companion... maybe even the Lego one... augh!

Just finished BF: Bad Company 1's campaign so I could get a feel for whats to come in 2. I don't care to much for the multiplayer's sole Assault Lines/Asset Denial scenarios, there's no pushing the enemy back as a defender which really bites if you're on a weak team, unlike Assualt Lines in 2142 where you have the option to retake control points. If a match turns sour, there is little to no chance of rallying and holding strong as people either DC or just rage and throw themselves at the enemy. However, thats just my rant from playing with real squads in ladders. It burns me when people don't know the difference between take & hold and deathmatch.

Having played through both Mass Effect games to completion I'm turning back to Oblivion to give it a good run through while I wait for C&C 4. I also managed to snag copies of AC4 and AC for Answer to satisify my needs to kick ass in a mech.

Speaking of Mechs - Anyone have any news on Mech Warrior 5. I keep checking Smith & Tinker's website for updates. They said they were also gonna re-release Mech Warrior 4 and its expansions for free to tide the fan base over. If and when that occurs I'd like to get a group together for that.

I am always giving Oblivion a good run, but lately, I have been devoting some free time into Dragon Age:Origins. Its fairly fun, just pretty difficult in parts, just got to get used to the new mechanics of armor and such.

Oblivion is always good for another play through. I still haven't really done a run as a pure magic user yet, I'd be interested to see how well that would work out. I can never resist going Thief/Assassin though.

I had a pure Mage, but after the Mages Guild quests to get into the University, I was pretty much spent.

Usually, I make a Thief that I end up introducing to the Brotherhood.

I seem to remember irreversibly pissing off the Mages Guild, by stealing a lot of shiny things from their guild house :mischief

I did that too...but they usually forget about it. My weakness is Silver. Usually, I level up my Sneak, and use a cheat with the Gates to get over a 100 percent Chameleon and just ransack all the Castles for their precious silver goodies..

I'm ploughing through Bioshock 2 nightly. God I love the enhanced plasmids as well as the various new toys!

Been playing Knights of the Old Republic (first time - bought it off Steam a couple of weeks ago).

Just arrived on Dantooine and made myself a Jedi (Scout/Sentinel). :)

How are you liking the game? :)

The game was a tad monotonous on the first planet (Taris) - an awful lot of running back and forth between areas (which from reading some old reviews was one of the few criticisms made of the game). I was also a bit limited because (following one bit of game advice I read) I refused to level my character beyond level 4 to maximise the amount of levels I could gain as a Jedi, which meant my other 2 group members were pretty much carrying me towards the end of it.

However getting to Dantooine and becoming a Jedi has certainly made it a lot more interesting, if only because I can now mass level up all those levels I was saving. :) I've also finally gotten my head around how to organise my combat properly, not to mention party member selection (there's a little option on the Map screen to select party members - pity it took me this long to figure that out instead of constantly sticking with whoever I had ^_^;).

I'm currently playing with me (melee) Bastila (melee) and Carth (ranged) in the group (was going to use the wookiee but I want to play out the romance with Bastila so in she stays).

After completing Bioshock 2 I'm flicking my attention between Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl and Aliens vs Predator. I finished the Alien campaign quite quickly (very short unfortunately) and am about half way through the marine and Predator ones.

I found running on the ceiling and walls fine - some people I've spoken to say it's disorientating but I took to it like a duck to water (probably from playing the earlier AvP games).

You can't beat AvP2 for storyline and gameplay though - the marines weapons, torch cutter and hacking device as well as the armoured suit at the end, the predators gadgets and the aliens birth at the beginning which you avtually play out - just awesome. And the story was really good, much more realised and fleshed out than this one. Still enjoying it though, but it's not a classic in my eyes.

Yeah Monolith did a great job back then but somewhere intp NOLF2 and FEAR they lost me but NOLF 1 and AVP 2 are game of the year titles.

Been playing Bioshock 2. And just lost two and a half hours worth of gaming progress when it crashed - a word to the wise, make sure you save regularly.

I was so close to the end too... oh well, off to Modern Warfare 2 I go. Rapture can suck it. :grumble

I finished Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl the other day and I've now moved onto the 2nd volume - Clear Sky. I read that it's a prequel but the storyline suggests it's a sequel.
