Lost finally returns tonight, with a 2 hour episode.
My main questions: just how dead is Locke, and just where and WHEN is the island now?
Darth McBain

I'm really excited for it, but during the long off-season, I have forgotten so much about what was going on. So many questions - I'm sure so many more will be raised. But darn if it isn't a great show...

Is it really a 2 hour premiere? I was kinda hoping the first hour was a recap since I don't remember what was going on completely XD

It's actually three hours. The first hour is the recap thing.

It was a great two episodes. I loved the humorous bits with Ana Lucia and Hurley's dad. I do wonder how the old woman plays into the overall story, I still don't think Ben is good. I think both he and Widmore are evil just have different motivations.

What a twist it would be if Widmore turned out to be a good guy... But I think you're right, they're two sides of a bad guy coin or something.
Loved the episode, and I watched the recap/clip show from 8 pm today - its great too. I feel really bad for the people on the island, but I have a feeling that even though three years have passed for the people who left, due to the islanders (just the Oceanic survivors and the freighter folk seemingly) being unstuck in time (while the island is also unstuck in time? :whaa) that three years won't pass for them. Hopefully the Oceanic 6 can return in time to help their horrible situation.

Best line of the night definitely went to Hurley's mom: "What's a dead Pakistani doing on my couch?" :lol
I just remembered to go back to checking The Lost Diary now that the show is back on....if you've never checked it out before, get cracking!

Great episode, who else loved the nice touch of Desmond naming his son Charlie? I hope Desmond isn't putting Penny in danger with Ben around LA. I think that bomb might play a role in the a future episode.

The bombshell of Charles Widmore being one of the Others in the 1950s was probably the biggest 'answer' this week's episode gave us. I liked the episode and I hope Desmond can keep Penny and little Charlie safe and away from Ben. :cry

I thought it was overall a somewhat "blah" episode, but the revelation about Widmore having been an Other was pretty mind-blowing. It helps to start making sense of a whole mess of things.
Now, if you want TRULY mind-blowing, make sure to check out the entry in the Lost Diary for this episode...at the end, you'll see some major speculation about Widmore, the woman leading the archers, and Faraday. :eek

There was another bombshell too. The blonde holding Daniel hostage is his mother. They called her Ellie and he did say that she reminded him of someone.

^^This. Oh yes, this. :dance
I knew he couldn't be dead, but until he showed up again, one never knows! He's been floating in the ocean skipping through time with everyone else! Crazy!
And now they've jumped to a point in time after the island was 'moved' (angry castaways from another plane crash? The Indian airway?) and then back to 16 years ago when the French science ship was crashed.
Its interesting trying to figure out when the Island survivors are. :D

Wow...overall, everyone at The Lost Diary seemed to HATE this episode. :\
On a related note, I found speculation there at The Lost Diary that Miles is the son of the infamous Dr. Marvin Candle. I think there might very well be more than a little validity to that speculation.

Poor Charlotte, although I knew she was going to die. I feel bad for Farday. I am curious the situation with his mother and Desmond. There is a huge a connection there.

I was also kind of sad when Charlotte died, mostly for Faraday's sake.
I'm just really intrigued now that we've seen Locke make the first moves toward leaving the island.

Everyone is jumping around saying ridiculous things like "Christian Sheppard IS Jacob" but I, obviously, think that's just ridiculous. He's a mouthpiece of some kind.
Jin interacting with the French team was fantastic. I really like how they're bringing Smokey back and I really really want to know what that temple is that its guarding.
Can't wait to see later when Farraday goes running around the Dharma camp terrorizing young Charlotte and infiltrating the Orchid station. ;)
Poor Charlotte. :(

My head hurt by the end of last night's episode...but that's a good thing, because that usually means it was a successful episode for me :). So many questions raised, and I really want to find out the answers. Plus I'm really excited to know that next week's episode will be the one where we'll get answers about what happened with Locke off the island.
I also want to know...WHERE IS AARON?

I think either Ben's people either kidnapped him or Claire came and got him. The bigger question for me is what did Ben go and do? I think the promise for an old friend he was talking about was trying to kill Penny. I just hope he didn't succeed. It looks like somebody beat the crap out of him, maybe Desmond did that too him before he could kill her. I don't think Desmond would have let him live if he had killed her.

Feb 26th, 2009, 07:41:59 AM
Last night's episode was filler in some ways, but it was fascinating, juicy, and highly necessary filler. I really liked it. But I knew I would, since Locke has always been one of my favorite characters on the show. I think the best scene was the one with Locke and Ben towards the end. When you have 2 fabulous actors like Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson going toe-to-toe, you always end up with really memorable stuff.
It was interesting to find out that the plane to Guam actually did crash-land on the island, and no doubt the woman that Lapidus rowed off with was Sun. I can't imagine who else it would be.
Jedi Master Carr
Feb 26th, 2009, 08:41:40 AM
Could be this new character played by Michelle from 24. She is suppose to have a prominent role this season.
Lilaena De'Ville
Feb 26th, 2009, 12:33:21 PM
I think the 6 (or 5, no Aaron) ended up being transported to the past where the other survivors of their plane crash was.
So I doubt Sun was there with Lapidus.
Rutabaga
Feb 26th, 2009, 09:00:58 PM
A recent Entertainment Weekly cover story on Lost suggested that perhaps not everyone ended up at the same place at the same time. So I think it's quite conceivable that it's Sun that Frank rowed off with. I can't think right now of who else it could be.
We've also got a story arc coming up that's about 3 episodes long, I think, that apparently takes place in the 1970's, and will feature Ben as a teenager. It explains why the very first scene of this season was Faraday in a Dharma jumpsuit down in the caves/tunnels. It's where Jin is, because he's in a jumpsuit too and driving one of the Dharma VW vans. And I'll bet that may be where the actress from 24 might come into play, she might be a member of The Others in the 70's. So if Sun didn't end up in the 70's, she might be in "the present" with Frank.

I really don't like the Lost Diary, but I read some of the comments today and damn. One person thought way more about it than I did...
"Wow, you all seemed to have missed what, to me, were VERY important clues!
Paul's necklace was an ankh. Why an ankh??
Sawyer's reference to Richard's eye liner. It's always bugged me but I didn't know why. Now I know it means something.
The statue was also a clue. At first I thought it looked like a woman, but now I think otherwise.
Why would richard wear eye liner? He's egyptian, that's why. And guess what? His initials are R. A. thats Ra, the sun god, god of rebirth... fitting, no? That also kind of explains the ankh, though I have no clue why Paul would be wearing it. The statue that looked like a woman was actually probably an egyptian god. My guess is that it was Anubis, god of the underworld because of the 4 toes... dogs have 4 toes, so it makes sense.
Then there's Abbadon. When they showed last week's episode with the comments they made a point to say that it means "guardian of the abyss." My guess is that HE is Anubis, since his job is to get people where they need to go.
It makes sense that Ra and Anubis would be fighting over the same land. One's job is rebirth and the other's to bring people to the next life. Maybe this is the upcoming war?" - Melissa
Some of that could make sense, but it's Lost, so maybe none of it does.

I'd read some of the Egyptian speculation at another site (EW's weekly recap, I think)...I do think it makes sense, even for Lost ;).
I like The Lost Diary, although I don't always agree with Daniel's assessment of the episodes. Even if I disagree, I never fail to laugh at some of his comments, they give me a good giggle. :)

My brother and bro-in-law have been going OFF about all the egyptian references, clue ins the last few weeks. R.A. was one of them. But of course, they were only joking. :p
I DO think that the back of the 'statue' looked VERY Egyptian, it seemed to have the skirt/loin cloth thing around it from the few seconds I saw it. It looked like if you turned it around that it would have a dog head or perhaps a hawk. Horus, anyone? (Horace... ;))
It'll be interesting if any of that makes any sense later in the season. :D now I have to find a screengrab of the statue.

Our ABC affiliate is in Santa Barbara. As you may or may not have heard, there's a really serious brush fire burning down there. As a result, KEYT has preempted all prime time programming to cover the fire over the last 2 nights, so Lost was not shown last night. I can't help but wonder how many calls they got about that, especially since the season finale is next week.
The good news is that the series is available On Demand through Comcast, so I should be able to see it tonight without a problem. I hope :). Otherwise it's online viewing for me.

Yes, it was a really good episode, and it does seem to have set up a potentially great season finale. I'm just left with the nagging feeling that if they do manage to set off the hydrogen bomb, it will actually be the cause of The Incident instead of a means of preventing it.
And Sawyer is now experiencing the most uncomfortable submarine ride in history :lol.

I think denoting would blow the island up so I don't think it gets denoted. Now, I guess they could screw up and the nuke does something else like leak.

In terms of the final scene in last night's episode, I don't think it was one of their stronger cliffhanger endings. I really can't believe that setting off the bomb will change things...if it does, I'll be pissed because it's a cop-out. And besides, if it does work, I don't see how you can have a 5th and final season. Ar least not an interesting one.
I was just really really happy when Miles said the same thing I'd been saying, about wondering if anyone thought that setting off the bomb would actually cause The Incident rather than avoiding it. And in some ways, it drove me absolutely buggy that so much of the motivation behind setting off the bomb was all about Kate. Maybe it's because I've never liked her, but sheesh, the fact that people were being selfish and wanting to do this just to avoid their own personal pain annoyed me. Although I admit that it was a very human motivation. I just thought about all the other people they would affect if this was successful...I couldn't help but think about Sun and Jin, especially since we saw their wedding. If Flight 815 lands safely in LA, remember what state their relationship was in when the plane took off. Not pretty. And it would continue to be not pretty, I'm sure.
Anywho, I'm rambling and overthinking. But despite the fact that I didn't think the final scene was all that strong, I am definitely left with questions I want answers to. Who are the "they" Jacob was referring to? And just who or what was Jacob in the first place? Jacob apparently selected all these people to come to the island...why? And what the hell is up with Locke? It obviously must have to do with the man we saw with Jacob on the beach in the first scene, but how did this all happen?
I liked all the stuff with Jacob, and for everyone who was still questioning how Locke could have survived being thrown out the window...well, now we know ;). And I was not surprised by what happened with Juliet, because I'd read that Elizabeth Mitchell had signed on for a new pilot so people were speculating she was done with Lost. I'll miss Juliet, she had become one of my favorite characters, and I loved her relationship with Sawyer. I think one of the strongest scenes last night was the final one with her and Sawyer...how sad.
Can't believe there's only one season left :(.
And how interesting that Star Trek involves changing the past and creating an alternative timeline, while Lost is playing with the same issue ;).
Jedi Master Carr
May 14th, 2009, 08:33:24 AM
Well the incident happened so I don't think the nuke stopped that. The question is what did the nuke do? My theory is that Jack, Kate, Miles, Sawyer, Hurley, and Sayid will be sent back to the present because of it. I think the game changer was killing Jacob. I think Locke is really dead and that person we saw is a shapeshifter of some type. I think that is who Christian Shepard was too. Maybe it has something to do with the smoke monster and shows why Ben was forced to see the Smoke Monster to make sure he didn't kill not Locke and then kill Jacob. Not sure who they are unless it Jack and company and he was saying they will get you. It will be a long nine months that is all I can say.
