Well, it was a long wait, but it was worth it. :)
Of course, the biggest revelation was the identity of the final Cylon. I was truly surprised and am curious to see how this all fits into The Big Picture. I'm really really glad, though, that it turned out NOT to be Starbuck...I think that would have been too obvious and anti-climactic. I had a feeling that her story is much deeper and complex to be explained away by her being a Cylon, and now we have to see what this all means.
I loved the identification of the 13th tribe being totally Cylon. That was a neat twist.
But poor Dualla...what a horrible tragedy. :cry

I'm with you all the way - (this is LD btw, too lazy to log out) shocked at the identity of the final Cylon; love that the 13th tribe, the Earth tribe, was all Cylon (omg that's us!); and was grossed out and weirded out by Starbuck's revelation. It was even too much for Leoben, so you know its weird. :mneh
Dualla :cry soooo sad, and it totally took me by surprise.

This episode really featured a lot of what the frack moments. The revelation of the last cylon was a nice surprise: The last supper picture might have hinted this because the seat next to Saul was empty but featured a grail right in front of it.
I found this nice article here on the net that tells you what other info on this season might be hidden in the last supper picture:

The producers had long ago said that the final Cylon was NOT in the Last Supper picture, and I really clung to that and hoped they weren't yanking our collective chain. And by golly, they were telling the truth.
I think the idea that the fact that the seat next to Tigh is empty and perhaps hinting at the final Cylon's identity is now, in retrospect, quite possibly what they were hinting at. Good catch! :)

yeah it was obvious that one person was missing since a last supper picture has to feature 13 People instead of 12.

What the frack is right!
I really wasn't expecting the final Cylon to be who it was - such a surprise! A real shame about Dualla, but a fantastically well put together bit of television: so unexpected, and such a powerful device.
It'll all make things interesting, that's for sure. It does make for some potentially interesting developments and questions in the long term though:
1. Were the original seven built after the Final Five left Earth? Are they the "blueprints" for Six and all the rest? If there were Cylons all the way back on Kobol (and if the 13th Tribe had robot Cylons with them as well), then how do they relate to the ones that were built on Caprica - did the Final Five somehow pull the strings and influence their creation?
2. If Boomer is "Number Eight", who is the illusive "Number Seven"? Is there some Cylon superstition that caused them to skip that number? Do the original Cylons realise that they're missing a number, or are they programmed not to notice? Is it just a Star Trek style plot hole that will ultimately get ignored?
3. What on Earth is up with Starbuck? Is it all some gigantic reference to her appearence in the recent short-lived Bionic Woman series (We can rebuild you: we have the technology!), or is it something more significant?

:lol
BTW, if everyone hasn't seen the half-hour special "10 Things You Need To Know About Battlestar Galactica," I highly recommend it. It was well-done and hit a lot of important points.
Plus I like David Eick and Ron Moore's description of Baltar being the crazy uncle that everyone hates but still invites to Thanksgiving dinner every year anyways. :lol

Well, well, well, it's about time! (If you saw the episode, you know what I'm referring to! :love)
Definitely looks like there's going to major drama and quite probably bloodshed coming up, what with a mutiny brewing. I've always loved Gaeta, but now he's starting to move over onto my naughty list. :shakefist

Not my favourite episode it has to be said; may have to rewatch it when i'm a little less sleepy. Gaeta being a bit of a frakhole didn't really enthrall me that much; his new choice of ally seems interesting though. Seeing Laura's reaction to things is certainly a bit of a shift.
And poor Tyrol. Just when you thought they couldn't do anything more to screw things up for his character. :cry

A little Sidenote here: In the German Version of BSG this line was translated as "This is what we all hope (for)" (well you only need 4 words to say that in German). I kind of prefer the German interpretation/translation of Galactica in many situation. Galactica is one of the few TV series that received a great voice actors cast in Germany. It is one of the few shows that I do not mind watching in the dubbed version. In fact I feel more connected to the German Admiral Adam's voice than to Edward Olmos original one.

It really was a good episode; it'll be interesting to see how they "fix" it. Frankly, I'm glad that Felix is the villain in all this, particularly after Adama's no-forgiveness speech: he was starting to annoy me, so it'll be nice to see him taken down a notch or few.
I loved the part where Tigh and Adama broke free from their captors - they've done similar things in other shows where the elder members of the cast do something cool, but it generally feels a bit stilted and forced. They actually managed to pull it of in a way that seemed convincing, and awesome.
Its interesting to see just how many oher characters have been dragged into all this - not just Galactica crew like Seelix and Racetrack, but even the odd character from Pegasus as well. Seeing the old Pegasus Deck Chief serving as the Galactica Chief was nice as well; ties everything together. I love it when they recycle characters.

I am really excited about where they will go from here. Will Adama stick to what he said and grant no amnesty. Is Sam going to survive? How will the people react to the fact that nearly their entire goverment was executed by their own vice president?

Zarek became a monster in that episode, in terms of the rest of the people well that is why Zarek was executed and few will feel sorry for his death.

These last 2 episodes of BSG have been among the finest, most intense 2 hours of television I've seen in a long, long time. Simply superb, absolutely brilliant.
Adama's return to the bridge, with the crowd following him and growing by each second, was truly awesome. And his reunion with Roslin...oy. :cry
How chilling and horrifying it was to see Zarek order the execution of the entire Quorum. It's true, he indeed turn into a monster, and he came to a fitting and appropriate end for a monster. As for Gaeta...I actually felt some pangs of regret over his execution. What he did was terrible, but unlike Zarek, he still had a soul left, and as a result realized that what he was doing was terrible. But still, Adama kept true to his word. Retribution was delivered as he promised it would.
I suppose by default, since Lee is the only remaining member of the Quorum, he is now Vice President.
And I dunno about you, but the preview for next week's episode just about made my hair stand on end.
As an aside, we're left with Starbuck and Sam in limbo...I read a few months ago that Michael Trucco, who plays Sam, was in a terrible car accident and suffered a neck fracture very similar to what happened to Christopher Reeve. But somehow he managed to escape paralysis. He had major spinal surgery that has left him with a gnarly scar down the back of his neck, and they had said the scar might be written into the series. So I think we're on the verge of that happening.
And as a final observation...Laura Roslin KICKS ASS. :thumbup
Captain Untouchable
Feb 9th, 2009, 01:28:41 PM
Laura Roslin kicks ass? What about Romo Lampkin? :eek
I hope that Mark Sheppard is going to step up and have a bit more of a role. It was fantastic having him around during the Baltar trial, and it was a shame that his last appearence was so brief. Maybe with the power vacuum, he's going to get drawn into politics a little more? Lee makes sense as a default Vice President, but I'd love to see Lampkin at least serving on the Quorum, if not doing more.
I think they've brought the whole Felix Gaeta arc to a nice conclusion. Not having watched the webisodes that came before the current season, I missed out on some of his character development, and found his character to be a little grating. By making him do something so significant, but - as has been mentioned - illustrating that he still has a soul left at the end of it all has redeemed his character in my mind. He's not my favourite character, and I certainly won't miss his presence, but I thought they did a very tasteful job. They seem to be developing a habit with that - they handled Dee's death with similar grace of storywriting.
The last two episodes have seen a lot of characters brought back. I thought it was very tastefully done: more than just a closet reference to the fans, but also a good storytelling device. Gage for example; he made sense as a character to bring back. Aaron Kelly was another clever - and interesting - choice : I'm interested to see how Kelly fits into the new fleet dynamic - will he be stepping into Gaeta's shoes, with past transgressions forgiven to a certain extent?
I also never thought I'd see myself write this, but I hope we see a little more about how the dynamic within the Cylon Baseship is shaping up. After ODing on it previously, we've now gone almost cold turkey. Has Tory Foster taken on a true leadership role, or is she regarded as a representative of another model within the regular Cylon Hierarchy?

Do we actually know what Colony he's from? Since he knew Grandpa Adama, one would assume Caprica (if they're in the new series, then presumably they've been there a good few generations), but didn't they say his wife died on one of the other colonies or something?

A quieter episode than the last 2, but still brilliant nonetheless. Yes, many intriguing revelations, most especially that the Final Five created the other 8 models and that there was indeed a 13th model that's been boxed. Definitely no sloppy writing there! ;)

I can't express how happy I am that they're starting to explain about #7. It's been bugging me for ages!
Just because Starbuck isn't Daniel doesn't necessarily rule her out as a Cylon, or anything like that. Sam was talking about the fact that resurrection is old Kobol technology that they reinvented. Its possible that the same sort of "bio memory transfer" (the technobabble name was something like that, right?) was used to upload her memory into a new body. Maybe she's an Earthling that also escaped, or maybe she is in some way connected with Daniel - maybe <s>Cavill</s> John didn't get them all?
There's got to be someone else involved, anyway. Even with the "reletavistic sub-luminal travel" that Sam mentioned, it'd take more than that to allow Kara to reach Earth and get back to the fleet (spanning lightyears) in only a matter of months.
Something the nurse said at the end stuck in my mind. She said that Sam was "not in there". Okay, so the resurrection hub is gone, but maybe his consciousness has somehow wound up somewhere else; maybe something to do with some of the above possibilities?

The depth of storytelling that BSG is reaching for--and successfully reaching, I must say--is almost unheard of for a television show. It is nothing short of a marvel. For me, it makes the de-evolution of Heroes all the more painful.

I once had the theory that she was like the hybrids a product of the new Cylon research and this is why the hybrids react to her. Obviously she is unkowen to the final 5 otherwise Ellen would have remembered her.
The old hybrid in Razor knew her although we know that he had left the Cylons before the arrival of the final 5.
This would make her model older than Cavil and the others since they were constructed after the first Cylon War. But this would make sense since in one of her life's she has been to earth even before she crashlanded there.

So much tragedy in this episode...I was not only heartsick but also sick to my stomach during the final moments. Poor Tyrol, the man simply cannot catch a frakkin' break. He has experienced nothing but heartache and loss, and life keeps kicking him right in the Cylon nuts. It just isn't fair.
I agree with the idea that Daniel was Starbuck's father, it seems to be the only explanation at this point. But I'm not quite ready to say that Starbuck herself is 100% Cylon...is it possible that she's like Hera, possibly the product of a Cylon and a human? Or, if she IS totally Cylon, then she's definitely a model that predates everyone else since no one is aware of her, and all 13 known models are accounted for now. Or did her father create her, a one-of-a-kind model?
All I know is, these final 3 episodes are going to kick ass. Totally.

I'm new to BSG, currently on Season 2, Disc 4. Just watched the three episodes with Admiral Cain and absolutely loved them all. COllectively, they were better than most films I've seen; period, never mind recently. I really am hooked on this show now and am gutted it's only 4 seasons long. Will Adama is such a great character and has so far had the best line in response to hearing that Helo and Chief are to be executed - 'I want a marine strike team in a raptor in five minutes. Prepare to launch alert fighters!'. Awesomenessitality! :D
Watching this show gives me a craving to play the Wing Commander series (particularly 3 and 4) and get back into fleet (squadron) roleplaying with Tod.

The Adama is a Cylon joke is a running gag between me and a friend of mine. He was watching BSG for 2 years on German TV when I started watching last fall. Halfway into the first season he asked me if Adama was already revealed as a Cylon.
Once I caught up with German TV and moved on to the US version of season 3 I told him:"Hey don't freak out but Adama is indeed a Cylon." "Really" "Sure" "REALLY" "No way man! The old man is a mother fucking badass."

The old hybrid in Razor knew her although we know that he had left the Cylons before the arrival of the final 5.
This would make her model older than Cavil, Daniel and the others since they were constructed after the first Cylon War. But this would make sense since in one of her life's she has been to earth even before she crashlanded there and she must have used non-earth Cylon technolegy because her trip was shorter!

Laura isn't dead! Thank the Gods!
Interesting episode this week. Not as good as last weeks IMO, but still... some powerful moments. Adama collapsing in his quarters, over the realization that he will have to abandon Galactica, was very sad :(

I think it was good that they took some speed out of the show.
Starbuck putting her own picture to the wall, Adama and Saul drinking on "the last flight of Galactica" - those were my favorite moments.
14 days to go and 4 hours left to watch.

Holy cow. It's too early in the morning to try to figure that all out O_o.
Another good episode, although I have one question...where the heck was the Chief? He was conspicuously absent, and no one commented about it at all.

I've read in various blogs that the Chief is in the brig but that the scenes involving him were cut because of time constraints. Seems kind of criminal to me, considering what a big deal the last episode was for him, but oh well..

Exactly...if the scenes were cut, that's a shame. They've run episodes a couple of minutes longer before, they could have with this one. It was a glaring hole in an otherwise good episode.

I'm going to crack out and dust off one of my old theories, which is starting to make a little more sense given that we know about Seven and what-not.
There are usually twelve deities who are considered the "main" Olympian ones from the Greek pantheon, although some sources pick a slightly different twelve; the list I'm using includes Dionysus instead of Hestia, so that the genders line up. Doing so provides you with five female characters and seven male ones, which matches with the line-up of characters prior to the revelation of Seven. If you decide to count Hades (which isn't without precedent) as the thirteenth member of the Olympian pantheon, then the numbers continue to line up when you toss Seven into the mix.
There are some parallels that can be drawn between specific characters and the Olympians as well. John / Cavil, based on Ellen's father, could well be Zeus - father of the gods. Ellen could be a parallel to Demeter, the "Earth-Mother", who is one of Zeus' siblings. Six is all sexual and seductive; she's a contender as Aphrodite; meanwhile, Chief Tyrol could be Hephaestus - the smith who forged weapons for the gods.
I could ramble for ages, but the point I'm angling towards is that maybe the Cylon models are meant to parallel the Greek Gods - who are presumably the "Lords of Kobol", given the specific names we've heard mentioned. That being the case, then maybe when the scriptures talk about Kobol being a place where Humans and "the Gods" lived in harmony, the Cylons of the Thirteenth Tribe are the ones referred to as Gods.
If everything is meant to loop around, so that everything has happened will happen again, what if the end of the series sees Humans and "the Gods" settling down together on a new planet, and creating a new Kobol? That would bring everything full-circle rather nicely.
On a completely unrelated note, did anyone notice that Sam's brainwaves came back immediately after Saul's baby died? What if Sam was actually brain-dead, and Liam "resurrected" into the nearest vacant body? That would expain why Sam isn't capable of any kind of conscious intellectual thought - he has the mind of a child.
Darth Turbogeek
Mar 8th, 2009, 08:43:21 PM
No. Sam is as been hinted at for the last few episodes, going to be part of Galactia turning into a new hybrid of Cylon/Human tech and becoming an actual living thing, like a Baseship. Except of a Hybrid, they have a full Cylon acting as the ship's brain. Given enough time, the biological resin plus Sam's gradual taking over of all the ship's systems could head to a fully biological Battlestar. Not sure what Adama would think about his girl having a lot in common with a Baseship....
One of the interestign things has been about Galactica becoming a real character, rather than a set in this series. There is a real love for the old gal and it will be a pity to see her destroyed - but destroyed I am guesing she will be. Hopefully driving hard into the viewport of Cavill's Baseship with Cavill screaming as he realises that he is going to die.
Also ironic how Cavill's dream is to see gamma rays and percieve things without human limitations and yet Sam now can do exactly that. Sam now sees what a hybrid can - can see outside standard time and space even.

I agree about the Galactica becoming a full-fledged character...you know they won't just strip her and leave her floating lifelessly like space garbage. She will go out in a blaze of glory. And that will be sad and painful to watch. But I do like the idea about her being used as a weapon to wipe out Cavil and his base ship. That would rock.

Captain - interesting theory. I have seen a few others like that floating about the 'net, and they all seem to stem from the fact that we have repeatedly heard: "All this has happened before, and all this will happen again." If the attack on the Cylon Colony is going to be the last stand of humans against cylons, what - or who - will be left in the aftermath to pick up the pieces and start it all over again?
At this point, I can't really imagine what the finale is going to be like. It seems likely that we will see Galactica die and take out the Colony with it, but what else? Who is going to die? Will Boomer shoot Cavill? Will Tyrol shoot Boomer? Is Laura Roslin going to live to see the out-come of the battle? Will Sam come out of his hybrid-coma? Will Kara Thrace bring about the apocalypse? :cyduck

In regards to Greek mythology theories it's clear there really isnt any real link to them. People are reading far too much into it and missing what''s really important - this is where they are aware the cycle of violence exists and the main players are trying to stop it. Hera is the key to it, being the first of a new race that ties cylon and human together. Galactica is almost a metaphor of this tying together - old worn Battlestar getting a Baseship makeover and two no longer seperate. The other real key is the Music - it means something big. The other fact that Starbuck is a human that somehow returned from death - what exactly does that mean? That is also a key to working out what is going on.
Something is trying to break the cycle of violence and the key seems to be the Cylons getting religion and the One True God. Something HAS changed this time around.
So forget parrallels to Greek mythology. Look at the real questions and the real keys to workign out what is really going on.

Wow. Thank you so much for that statement of the obvious there. I honestly hadn't realised that any of those plot points were significant at all.

Cap' has a good point. Although the shows creators have said something like "we have all the clues to guess what's going on", at this point I don't think anyone could perfectly predict what's to come. The writers have consistently hoodwinked us all and I hope the finale will be no exception to this.
Also I still think Kara could be a half-Cylon too. :uhoh

I think that's the most obvious, but I'm not sure how the timeline works out. Presumably, the Daniels being killed wasn't long before the Final Five were infiltrated into the colonies by Cavil. Saul and Ellen were infiltrated separately, but met and married before Saul became friends with Bill, so that adds a little flex to it... but basically, for a Daniel to find a wife and concieve a child, Adama and Tigh have to have known each other for about as long as Starbuck has been alive.
If you plug in the numbers from William Adama's bio - as seen in Hero - then it matches up - there's a 25-35 window in which he could have known Saul. However, that puts Adama in his eighties when the Galactica was due to be decommissioned. Since the usual statutory retirement age on Earth is 55-65, that seems petty old for a serving military officer who can still beat his son and Deck Chief in a boxing ring.
I still think that Kara's father being a Daniel is likely... but if she is, it probably means that some of the released details are squiffy. TV shows make inconsistancies like that all the time... Battlestar just seems to be extra-careful about that sort of thing. >_<

Yes, really. You have to state the blindlingly obvious because developing theories that are so unsupported by what we have seen requires it. When the big secrets are revealed they tourn out to be surprisingly simple and straightforward. While there's plenty to be revealed, I'm sure that's what we will get - something nice and simple that can be easily accepted. There's either a Deux Ex Machina going to be explained and to be accepted it will need to be simple. If they choose to at all, they may well just call it "Well it just did" and get on with it. That's perfectly acceptible too, they dont have to answer every detail.
Like... is Starbuck half-cylon? No, she's not. Baltar now knows if she is or isnt and he is very much acting like she's human. And doesnt that dilute the importance of Hera, if she is? And also, the ret-conn of Cally and Tyrol's child to just standard human. Hera is clearly the only half breed.

Since when was it established that Baltar knows she's human? All he's done is confirmed that the blood sample was necrotic. There was nothing in the program to establish that he'd run any other kinds of tests, and from the way it was presented, his revelation seemed to be quite spur of the moment: what's to say that his Cylon test - which takes hours, if you remember back to Season 1 - was even finished, and that his sample of necrotic blood was enough to establish that she wasn't a half-Cylon?
I'm not saying that you're wrong; Kara could well not be a Cylon. I just think your logic is a tad flimsy there.
Answer me one thing, though; why the hell are you in a discussion thread, when you clearly have no desire to do anything of the sort. You're not willing to entertain anyone else's notions... seems all you want to do is get smug about how right you think you are.

Here are some questions to consider.
First, the words of the hybrid which have so far come true. What is the significance of the final lines?
At last, they’ve come for me. I feel their lives, their destinies spilling out before me. The denial of the one true path, played out on a world not their own, will end soon enough. Soon there will be four, glorious in awakening, struggling with the knowledge of their true selves. The pain of revelation bringing new clarity and in the midst of confusion, he will find her. Enemies brought together by impossible longing. Enemies now joined as one. The way forward at once unthinkable, yet inevitable. And the fifth, still in shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering. I can see them all. The seven, now six, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin. But in time, it is sin that will consume them. They will know enmity, bitterness, the wrenching agony of the one splintering into many. And then, they will join at the promised land, gathered on the wings of an angel. Not an end, but a beginning.
Second, Caprica Six encounters Gaius Baltar in Islanded in a Stream of Stars, for what I guess is the first time in a long while. She claims that she has changed, but he has not. Do think this is true? Is Baltar the same man he was at the beginning of the Mini-Series?
Oh and just for kicks:

My logic is not flimsy - there is no evidence to the contrary for starters - and JUST how do you think a guy who knows what a cylon is and also knows a half-cylon is going to miss a dead half cylon?. There is only fan guessing - the evidence right now is that Kara is a resurrected human who might be a bit more. Maybe an Angel. Whatever an Angel is.

I think this was trick. We were all thinking this episode would kick in the showdown instantly but it was not. A nice twist that reminds us that this is the end and we have come a long way to reach it.
I loved Baltar's flashback. I was really hoping that he would cross the line.
All in all Baltar's character evolution in season 4 was great. Apollo and Baltar's 5 minute conversation was a really strong moment. Great acting on both sides.

There were several tear jerking moments for me. And since I first heard that the finale was going to be three hours, and now it appears that it is two... I assume that this episode is really just the first hour of the finale, and since its "to be continued" and the next ep. is 'part 2' that if you were to watch them back to back you probably wouldn't feel a let down.
I am baffled as to how they are going to wrap this all up in two hours though. I need at least 22 more. ;)

It was probably one of the best series finales I've ever seen. You're never going to please everyone with one of these, but I thought they did a remarkable job of it last night. I've never watched BSG on Sci-fi. I've watched the series on DVD through Netflix. But this last season I broke down and caught each episode on Hulu and then the last couple I recorded. I just couldn't stand to watch them with commercials. I loved the way they tied up just about every loose end you could think of. For a second, I thought they we're going to let Cally's murder unresolved. Watching Galen gets his revenge and the subsequent shootout was awesome. They were headed towards a resolution that I was prepared to accept, but I wasn't that all jacked up about.
I'm an unabashed child of the 80's. One of the reasons I never tuned into the first season when it originally aired was because I thought they were basically going to trash a show I'd grown up adoring. Plus, some of the crap that I've seen the Sci-fi channel pass off as entertainment didn't exactly fill me with confidence. But after watching each full season on DVD I have to say this is the one of the best television series I've seen. It got a fitting finale last night.

I don't say this a lot but hey guys this was star wars... at least the whole first hour felt like it. The battle was great. Adama remembered that the biggest torpedo is the Battlestar itself.
Cavil's suicide was great. No resurrection. No sense in life for Cavil -> Screw you, you SOBs Cavil is out of here.
Boomer's death a great moment.
The entire first hour really delivered the feeling that this is the final battle; The last stand for humans and cylons.
It was kind of cool to see Hotdog commanding the viper squadron: The rook has come a long way.
The all along the watchtower and the opera house moment were perfect and they made a lot of sense and I felt that now all of the pieces would be finally put together and they are.
One of the strongest moments in the end was for me when Caprica and Baltar were walking up that hill and Baltar says that he wants to build a farm with her. The acting was perfect in this moment since you could see how Baltar realized that he the smartest human in the fleet would spent the rest of his life like his father. There was a lot of irony in this part if you keep in mind that it was Baltar and Caprica who were directly responsible for the downfall of the 12 colonies.
No happy ending for Lee and Starbuck but in the end the show at least leaves us behind with the final mystery to blog about for years.
"See you on the other side, Kara"
Adama and Rosslin's final moments together were well executed but nothing surprising.
The outro with the shots of present New York were pretty close to "being too much" but the show had to deliver its message somewhere in the end.
Maybe this was a glimpse of what to expect of Caprica.
I think the ending was really well done and I do not have the feeling that something is missing or that it was too much and in the end I do not really care who Starbuck was...maybe she was an angle all along.

It is funny because I had that theory back 3 years ago that they would find our Earth and be responsible for our foundation. I thought it was wrong though when they found the Cylon Earth. I liked it overall, although the Starbuck return was never explained enough. I can only guess she was sent back like Gandalf was in LOTR to complete her task. I know I loved the thing with Cavil, where he killed himself was worth a laugh.

I think my favorite scene of character resolution was probably:
"You know, I know about farming. :("
"I know you do."
So sad and happy at the same time.
I think that's what made a lot of it work. Adama and Roslin together til the end, Tyrol making his own way in the world, Sam sacrificing himself, etc. I really thought we were going to see the end of Helo, too.. just felt like they had been setting it up for him to bite it, but it was good to see that he, Athena and Hera could finally be happy together (after shooting the crap out of Boomer :eee) I was a little bit worried when they made that truce in the CIC, but luckily Tory Foster finally did something worthwhile and put an end to that :lol
It all ended up really uplifting, without feeling like a fairytale happy ending.
EDIT: Something else I just remembered.. Sam's "I'll see you on the other side" being an echo of Starbuck saying the same thing to Apollo, before she 'died'! Makes that little moment even more happy/sad :(

I thought it was cool how they did BOTH of the 'earth' scenarios people were thinking about - coming to Earth after the apocalypse AND coming to Earth before human civilization was set. Also, Galen ended up in England or Ireland all by himself. :) I thought that was cool. I LOVED when he went crazy and choked Tory, that was awesome. As soon as they started playing the clips of what happened to Cally my hubby and I looked at each other and we were like "OH SHI-"
Had totally forgotten about that happening, and it was awesome.

I have one criticism / complaint, which I'll get out of the way at the off. I think they should've ended the episode with Adama sitting on that hill and his final comment about Laura; I found the whole "look: we're all half-Cylon, and we're building robots that are going to take over the world" thing to be a little pretentious. I'll certainly be jabbing the stop button there once I own the DVDs.
Beyond that - wow. I have never gasped so many times at two hours of anything, let alone television. While the Centurion CGI was a little weak in places, the awesomeness of the old and new Centurions literally tearing people apart - and fighting alongside the Colonials no less - dwarfed that into insignificance. The Centurions were dwarfed by the awesomeness of the space CGI - that's always good, but the FTL jump out of the starboard flight pod, the ship coming under such heavy fire, ramming the colony to help board troops; I thought that the Enterprise ramming the Scimitar was cool, but sorry Jean-Luc, Bill out-awesomed you by quite a way there.
It was fantastic to see all those loose ends not only tied off, but platted together into an intricate web of awesomeness. Little details like having the Final Five standing on that balcony when the Galactica turned out to be the Opera House; Anders actually getting to experience that "beauty of mathematics" thing; Caprica and Baltar's little encounter while defending the ship...
Gah. It'd probably be more efficient if I cut and pasted a synopsis of the episode in here. Even after a week, I'm still buzzing over how awesome it was.
Speaking of awesome, and Anders; much as I liked Michael Trucco playing him, part of me wishes they'd gone back and had him as the Hybrid all along. He pulled that off so well!

I've started watching Season 1 again. Is there anything that can fill the void left behind by this show? Surely there must be some other good stuff on TV, right? Riiight!?

Anyone have any good links for the show online? I refuse to watch it in German - heck I don't know if they even show it here.

We couldn't possibly encourage such things :uhoh
You can get the DVDs for pretty cheap. Just pick up the Mini-Series if you're not sure about committing to a full season.

I have just been watching some clips of BSG and I think the finale of season 3 still might be my favorite moment, for sheer :eek value if nothing else. The last 6 or so minutes of the episode, with the Final Five theme building up in the background as the Final Five return to their posts on board Galactica, is just eeepic. Especially Tigh: "You can count on me."
Then of course:
"I've been to Earth, I know where it is, and I'm gonna take us there."
*cue badass guitar solo and zoom out to Earth*
holllyyyyy fraaaak!
:ohno it gives me goosebumps watching it now, even though I know it's coming.

I've been listening to this while getting on with stuff and there's just some moments, some musical cues, which just catch me off guard and floor me emotionally, putting me right back in various moments from the series.
