Okay, I hope this works for you. I had a pretty background and smuggled him in there, but then it was too pretty for someone whose outlook is "nothing more to lose" so I made it a bit gritty, and a bit fractured, as you suggested. Compressing it was a bit of a problem... but it works. If you want anything changed - let me know.
